Exactly! It’s unrealistic to expect us normal folks to fight something that’s been scientifically researched and designed to occupy as much of our attention as possibly. It’s just not fair! There is a huge imbalance of power here. Social has millions of dollars worth of investment into making it addictive. I on the other hand only have my willpower.

I used to be so creative and interested in learning as a child…literally until I got my first phone. Now I don’t make art anymore, it takes me forever to finish a book (it used to take me just one or two days). Since I was 4 years old i was dancing all the time all day without stopping.I was listening to music and just doing random dance moves.My family saw how much i loved dancing,so from the age of 5 i went on dancing classes.I was very happy and still dancing all day,and 3-4 years later i was still dancing, and learning kpop dances and showing them to my mum.At sixth grade I got my first phone.From when i didnt dance all day i was only dancing in my dance classes and i even stopped learning dances from youtube.My mom was saying to me that I dont dance anymore and thats because OF MY PHONE AND SOCIAL MEDIA and when she was telling me this I was thinking that I wasnt dancing so much cause I became older.Now that i saw Amy Wang videos and reading your comment i realized what actually hapend. For yt short you can pause your history like that way TH-cam wouldn't show videos on your home feed and you wouldn't be able to scroll shorts too .... Hope this will be helpful
It is worse than Instagram because even though it is less addictive, you can't delete it from your phone. I deleted Instagram and TikTok long ago because I noticed they were harmful to me. However, since I am unable to delete TH-cam, sometimes I waste a lot of time on TH-cam shorts. I am not able to stop doing something if I don't tackle the root issue, and how am I supposed to do that if I can't delete the app? The worst thing about this is that you don't realize how much time you are wasting until it is too much.
A game changer for me was deleting them off my TH-cam page!! In the short clusters there’s an “X” next to “see all” and it removes them from your homepage for a month. Highly recommend this, after a few days you’ll forget TH-cam has shorts.
My brother is so stuck with netflix, I hardly remember him as the cherish brother he used to be. Now he has 0 pacience, he is mean and always angry when we don't do things the way he exactly want us to do...
That was the same with my brother but now he is becoming better. When he was 3-4 years old, he was such a cute little cinnamon roll who would always do what we asked him to without any problem. Ever since he got addicted to phone at the age of 5, he became mean and got angry at the smallest things. When I was younger, I wasn't a good sister and used to annoy him or yell at him for no reason and always expected him to follow my orders, which he would DO. Now, I've became a better person but now he has became meaner. He is addicted to phone and doesn't study at all. When he is told to study (which he is hardly told to) he just opens his notebooks, flips through pages and done. He is going to be 9 years old in July.

I did spend my years scrolling and this year in 11th grade I failed and I know it's the result of losing my attention spans and my screen time on phones 😭.
I wasted 6 years of my life...scrolling away every single day...causing my health to deteriorate both physically as well as mentally and many other chain reactions (not positive ones)….this destroyed my relationship with everyone around and my career. It's not like I didn't do anything during this duration, I did nothing to my full potential...during recent times I even found myself having memory gaps, a short attention span and I'm constantly in a foul mood. I never realized that social media could be the answer to the problems I'm facing. I can't wait to start over, I'm done being so lazy. @@malikcutchin my notification is always muted from the firrst get I got my phn, cause I don't like things control me rather than me controlling my actions and time. But when I go to social media to ckeck something or watching something on youtube for important things suddenly sometimes I get sucked there on those short videos, which I hate. Although I have my boundaries like I Don't carry phone with me always, I study or work on laptop, do not use phn, love nature so spend a lot of time in my gardens. But still the functions are made for humans to get sucked and this is what J hate, I even deleted the facebook account which had a good amount of followers and a huge community.
I deleted insta few days back and tbh it truly changes your life ...I feel more n more grounded , calm and just happy ...its like the sense of urgency is gone and now i can finally breathe...ive been feeling more innthe moment and appreciative of little things... The main problem with us is not social media but also parents and social offline group. When we put our phone turn off we start thinking about the taunts which our parents give which has nothing to do with us, the trauma of the childhood and so many disturbing things, and what happens As soon as turn our phone all those bad thinking becomes distractions and the phone becomes our escape point. I think the society should improve and also solutions need to be make for such scenarios which is almost 90% genz are facing because of generational gap.
sorry, but people need to stop blaming bad parents for every single bad choices they make themselves. Bad parents aren't new phenomenon. Even since way back then, bad parents have always been around. But before there is social media, many people distracted themselves by reading books, drawing, or studying, watching movies, etc. Those things are the things that we can still do now, too. so I sympathize for people with bad parents, but those parents don't force you to go on social media. YOU are the one who choose it. All you have to do is choose a better distraction. it's all you.

Everytime I try to stop using social media I am not able to and also I've noticed whenever there is less toxicity in my household I don't find much need to use social media. I've always had this even before social media. I like to doodle or write things down when getting information primarily through audio. This really does not have to have anything to do with social media. We all retain information differently, no need to always immediately hit the attention span emergency button for things like this

The shoe story really brought tears to my eyes because my mom is a person that's always sick she has back pain, sciatica, neck pain and she asks me to do some small chores like putting the washed dishes in the racks or getting the dried clothes from the terrace etc.. and sometimes i'd tell her that I'd do it after eating or this or that and end up forgetting.. she doesn't ask me again and does those things by herself even in pain. I wouldn't even remember that she had asked me to do that stuff until the next day.

you talked about the exact things I've been noticing in myself when being addicted to social media, I'm less mind full and aware even about the miniscule things, I realzied that I was limiting my happiness and than I'll have a breakdown of how less productive I am becoming, which made me realize that you also don't have to be productive all the time, its okay to get slow sometimes, but I also had to be aware of the content I was consuming, if I 'slow down' a bit, I switched listening to Islamic videos and podcast, and (as I am a Muslim so I'm also trying to improve myself in terms of my religion), I also took time to understand and tell myself to value my life and the blessings I have (like I can make choices on my own, I have the capability, this the thing I pointed out and have been practicing to be grateful about, which had a great impact on me,) I noticed that now I'm kind of disgusted to 'mindlessly' scroll (I do binge watch sometimes) and now I'm automatically aware of what to consume! I struggled a lot with improving myself in these things, and wamy, I am also going to give you a credit, bcz of you, I have a bit stronger and matured mindset than before!❤ I'm so glad to be a part of A-team!🎉

To be honest, everything in our phone is a waste of time unless we use it wisely, and not mindlessly. Our phones are a waste of time overall. Like just imagine how life would be without our phones, we can't, because unfortunately our lives revolve around these screens, which is so sad. Live your life, don't depend on these apps. I'm just a teenager, and I am trying to do that, which is hard because I've been so stuck on my phone for years, but we can do it. Just enjoy your time while you can. Your phone will always be there, but will everything in your life as well? 'You don't realise the importance of a moment, until it becomes a memory'. That quote really made me think, I hope it makes you rethink your mindless scrolling as well. Don't ruin yourself for a screen. That's all this is. But your life, it is so much more. Do you really want to live, watching videos, forever? You can do this. Delete those apps. TH-cam is a waste of time too but it's impossible to delete it. A lot of times I feel like learning a lot from YT, creating my channel, doing courses etc but then I fall into the rabbit hole of shorts and makeup or self care videos. I don't take action but I just watch and it makes me feel useless.

Once I tried not using and hiding my phone and my day was so productive which tells that we humans can easily function without phone but then again I picked up and boom i became addicted again. My reason for deleting IG and YT: My productivity gets adversely affected and I fall behind in doing simple tasks such as arranging my wardrobe! I tell myself "Just a few more shorts" but end up wasting hours together... to regain a healthy routine, I need to get rid of those.
Good thing i found this social platform, it made me realize as a 12 year old i wasted some opportunities(not all), like failing my major test when i had so much time. My mom scolded me for 30 minutes straight for failing and the worst part is that i was going to a priv school, with 3 of my cousins which was like a competitionfor my mom since my cousins had good grades too. It genuinely does not bring me any joy unless I change my algorithm to positive content, much like this video, so there is not a lot that compels me to re-download it onto my phone. Since I was 4 years old i was dancing all the time all day without stopping.I was listening to music and just doing random dance moves.My family saw how much i loved dancing,so from the age of 5 i went on dancing classes.I was very happy and still dancing all day,and 3-4 years later i was still dancing, and learning kpop dances and showing them to my mum.At sixth grade I got my first phone.From when i didnt dance all day i was only dancing in my dance classes and i even stopped learning dances from youtube.My mom was saying to me that I dont dance anymore and thats because OF MY PHONE AND SOCIAL MEDIA and when she was telling me this I was thinking that I wasnt dancing so much cause I became older.Now that i saw Amy Wang videos and reading your comment i realized what actually hapend.

I'm addicted to TH-cam and shorts actually. It's hard to ignore these cause it is always a way to just take a break from study ( a very long break).
For yt short you can pause your history like that way TH-cam wouldn't show videos on your home feed and you wouldn't be able to scroll shorts too .... Hope this will be helpful
It is worse than Instagram because even though it is less addictive, you can't delete it from your phone. I deleted Instagram and TikTok long ago because I noticed they were harmful to me. However, since I am unable to delete TH-cam, sometimes I waste a lot of time on TH-cam shorts. I am not able to stop doing something if I don't tackle the root issue, and how am I supposed to do that if I can't delete the app? The worst thing about this is that you don't realize how much time you are wasting until it is too much.
A game changer for me was deleting them off my TH-cam page!! In the short clusters there’s an “X” next to “see all” and it removes them from your homepage for a month. Highly recommend this, after a few days you’ll forget TH-cam has shorts.

That was the same with my brother but now he is becoming better. When he was 3-4 years old, he was such a cute little cinnamon roll who would always do what we asked him to without any problem. Ever since he got addicted to phone at the age of 5, he became mean and got angry at the smallest things. When I was younger, I wasn't a good sister and used to annoy him or yell at him for no reason and always expected him to follow my orders, which he would DO. Now, I've became a better person but now he has became meaner. He is addicted to phone and doesn't study at all. When he is told to study (which he is hardly told to) he just opens his notebooks, flips through pages and done. He is going to be 9 years old in July.

I wasted 6 years of my life...scrolling away every single day...causing my health to deteriorate both physically as well as mentally and many other chain reactions (not positive ones)….this destroyed my relationship with everyone around and my career. It's not like I didn't do anything during this duration, I did nothing to my full potential...during recent times I even found myself having memory gaps, a short attention span and I'm constantly in a foul mood.
I never realized that social media could be the answer to the problems I'm facing. I can't wait to start over, I'm done being so lazy. I never wanna get back to the same situation I am in right now

@@malikcutchin my notification is always muted from the firrst get I got my phn, cause I don't like things control me rather than me controlling my actions and time. But when I go to social media to ckeck something or watching something on youtube for important things suddenly sometimes I get sucked there on those short videos, which I hate. Although I have my boundaries like I Don't carry phone with me always, I study or work on laptop, do not use phn, love nature so spend a lot of time in my gardens. But still the functions are made for humans to get sucked and this is what J hate, I even deleted the facebook account which had a good amount of followers and a huge community.
I deleted insta few days back and tbh it truly changes your life ...I feel more n more grounded , calm and just happy ...its like the sense of urgency is gone and now i can finally breathe...ive been feeling more innthe moment and appreciative of little things...

The main problem with us is not social media but also parents and social offline group. When we put our phone turn off we start thinking about the taunts which our parents give which has nothing to do with us, the trauma of the childhood and so many disturbing things, and what happens

sorry, but people need to stop blaming bad parents for every single bad choices they make themselves. Bad parents aren't new phenomenon. Even since way back then, bad parents have always been around. But before there is social media, many people distracted themselves by reading books, drawing, or studying, watching movies, etc. Those things are the things that we can still do now, too. so I sympathize for people with bad parents, but those parents don't force you to go on social media. YOU are the one who choose it. All you have to do is choose a better distraction. it's all you.

Everytime I try to stop using social media I am not able to and also I've noticed whenever there is less toxicity in my household I don't find much need to use social media. I've always had this even before social media. I like to doodle or write things down when getting information primarily through audio. This really does not have to have anything to do with social media. We all retain information differently, no need to always immediately hit the attention span emergency button for things like this

The shoe story really brought tears to my eyes because my mom is a person that's always sick she has back pain, sciatica, neck pain and she asks me to do some small chores like putting the washed dishes in the racks or getting the dried clothes from the terrace etc.. and sometimes i'd tell her that I'd do it after eating or this or that and end up forgetting.. she doesn't ask me again and does those things by herself even in pain. I wouldn't even remember that she had asked me to do that stuff until the next day.

you talked about the exact things I've been noticing in myself when being addicted to social media, I'm less mind full and aware even about the miniscule things, I realzied that I was limiting my happiness and than I'll have a breakdown of how less productive I am becoming, which made me realize that you also don't have to be productive all the time, its okay to get slow sometimes, but I also had to be aware of the content I was consuming, if I 'slow down' a bit, I switched listening to Islamic videos and podcast, and (as I am a Muslim so I'm also trying to improve myself in terms of my religion), I also took time to understand and tell myself to value my life and the blessings I have (like I can make choices on my own, I have the capability, this the thing I pointed out and have been practicing to be grateful about, which had a great impact on me,) I noticed that now I'm kind of disgusted to 'mindlessly' scroll (I do binge watch sometimes) and now I'm automatically aware of what to consume! I struggled a lot with improving myself in these things, and wamy, I am also going to give you a credit, bcz of you, I have a bit stronger and matured mindset than before!❤ I'm so glad to be a part of A-team!🎉

I said always to myself “I have to delete this scrolling from my life but had every time the excuse that why can’t I be like normal kids in my age who don’t care if there wasting there life on social media. everyone does this so I can do to And now I know why I can’t, cause the kids will never achieve the things that I want to achieve, there highest dream isn’t to get into an Elite University like Oxford, they’re just don’t care about there grades. To be honest, everything in our phone is a waste of time unless we use it wisely, and not mindlessly. Our phones are a waste of time overall. Like just imagine how life would be without our phones, we can't, because unfortunately our lives revolve around these screens, which is so sad. Live your life, don't depend on these apps. I'm just a teenager, and I am trying to do that, which is hard because I've been so stuck on my phone for years, but we can do it. Just enjoy your time while you can. Your phone will always be there, but will everything in your life as well? 'You don't realise the importance of a moment, until it becomes a memory'. TH-cam is a waste of time too but it's impossible to delete it. A lot of times I feel like learning a lot from YT, creating my channel, doing courses etc but then I fall into the rabbit hole of shorts and makeup or self care videos. I don't take action but I just watch and it makes me feel useless.

Once I tried not using and hiding my phone and my day was so productive which tells that we humans can easily function without phone but then again I picked up and boom i became addicted again. your video was really eye opening, especially the "do you remember anything from scrolling for hours?"-part. i just went ahead and deleted a bunch of apps which really have been consuming a lot of my daily time and attention. i am really looking forward to finally getting to read all of the interesting books i have bought and never touched after that. and i have also noticed i haven't crocheted in a while simply because i "hadn't had" the time (which i know i simply haven't MADE the time to do so) so i really hope i can turn this around :D

My reason for deleting IG and YT: My productivity gets adversely affected and I fall behind in doing simple tasks such as arranging my wardrobe! I tell myself "Just a few more shorts" but end up wasting hours together... to regain a healthy routine, I need to get rid of those.

Good thing i found this social platform, it made me realize as a 12 year old i wasted some opportunities(not all), like failing my major test when i had so much time. My mom scolded me for 30 minutes straight for failing and the worst part is that i was going to a priv school, with 3 of my cousins which was like a competitionfor my mom since my cousins had good grades too. And this really helped me to start better right now rather than doing something useful and less scrolling. Thank you Amy for going in my fyp

But after I downloaded social media again, I passed the exam more aggressively, each time I spent preparing for the exam for later, and a feeling of emptiness that life was boring. But this video helped me realize everything, and I, too, like you, will delete the social network and bkdu, focus more on the exam and self-love and life

I never had insta or tiktok but i still like watching youtube videos abt the things i like- like anime, art, and self-improvement so I think that it is okay to use social media sometimes like when you have nothing to do and want inspiration because anime and self improv. videos helped me gain a sense of responsibility, determination, and dedication to what i do and self-realization so youtube is a good place to improve yourself until you don't get addicted to other stuff .Anyway Thanks for this video it really helped me in becoming self-conscious.
I deleted TikTok and insta bc they are the ones that makes me want to scroll for hours and hours. So that now I deleted them I will have more time and more time to study compared to when I had barely time bc of social media. So excited tou to have a lot of free time. I hope I stay disciplined

All my life I was high achiever , bookish person . and was eager to get more in life . but now I'm in university barely surviving . with low grades . I'm so stressed about my present I can see my dreams slipping away from me . I have attention span issues, I just forget thing in exam no matter how much I learn them . I'm experiencing bad memory and less motivated for my future life .after watching this video I do think I need to good break to bring myself on track .I'm so grateful for this video God bless you!

Whenever I get up I always time myself like 3 hrs insta and then we will do our work, but I always end up procrastinating. The context of the page gets more interesting and I forget about it and then when I finally put my phone down my whole energy is drained. I am going to delete a few apps on my Phone for sometime, till i achieve my goals. I'm now excited to do all the things that I have left behind because of my addiction to a game. things such as a little routine, waking up in the morning feeling refreshed, not going late to school, studying with full focus, going to a cafe with friends, and study dates, maybe? having quality time with fams on my way home, not sleeping late, preparing for a tournament I decided to take part in, studying for college, trying new hobbies, reading books while sitting on the terrace sipping tea, documenting life, editing vlogs, going on an adventure like hiking, camping, jogging on new areas, and so much more.. wah I realized there's actually so many to do in this life. like what the heck am I doing all this time T_T thanks, Amy! Thank you so much for this video. I recently deleted instagram and TikTok off of my phone and I now have a designated hour at the end of my day where I look at social media on my iPad. It genuinely does not bring me any joy unless I change my algorithm to positive content, much like this video, so there is not a lot that compels me to re-download it onto my phone.
I’ve noticed, the same way that you did, that I am a lot more grateful and observant of the world around me, because I think as humans we are not designed to be exposed to so many other peoples lives. The constant comparison is absolutely a thief of joy. I am excited for this new life ahead without social media taking over my brain! I'm actually from France and you're my favorite youtuber. I've been feeling quite sad because I'm in my last year of high school and I don’t have the grades that I want. I perform poorly at my exams, and i feel so unmotivated to get back on track because I'm just so disappointed by myself. I deleted Instagran to focus on my upcoming exams and to spend more time with my loved ones. I don’t wanna be a victim of social media anymore. I hope that staying away from my phone will help me rebuild my confidence.
