There is a more recent niche perfumery brand called Le Labo which makes their fragrances in front of you in the same style as this video but they do not let you create your own sent.

I was a man and asked another man on the street and he seemed super excited to talk about it. He told me it was Floris No. 89 and I ordered a bottle that night. I was 20 at the time and have worn it every day since, I'm 29 now. My wife loves the smell of it on me too. Their experience is no joke. The quality is unmatched. It is such a great fragrance and honestly not a bad price. I get my bottles on amazon for $75. I only need 2 sprays and it lasts all day so the bottle lasts me a year. So $75 a year for your fragrance is an easy investment in my eyes. I cannot recommend it enough. I have been meaning to pick up their shaving cream and aftershave balm because they have that in the No 89 blend as well. I am actually going to go do that right now. I don't mean to sound like a shill, I just swear by this stuff. I get compliments all the time on it.

I'm a FragHead with several Floris fragrances. I'm a Fougere guy, and Elite is by far my favorite Floris frag. It's as smooth as it gets. In my top 5 fougeres, and top 10 fragrances overall. I have Floris Santal too, which is often compared to another of my favorites - Gucci Envy for Men. I don't think of Santal as an out and out Fougere though. Great stuff. I believe the marine synthetic she referred to is calone, which evidently was used in the culinary world for years as sort of a melon flavor. She mentioned New West by Aramis, which in the 1980's was the first commercial fragrance to use calone. So it was sort of an early prototype of the aquatic genre to take over in the 1990's.
Missed opportunity at the name of "Allison Wonderland" for a play in Alice in Wonderland, but great video, was nice to hear someone talk so passionately about something which I dismissed overall.

Penny is absolutely adorable. Her knowledge is utterly outstanding. I am a dedicated Aramis man, as my wife prefers it to anything, and after 33 years of marriage, I have learned to ensure she is happy with the fragrance. Outstanding job.
I won't fault the dedication and knowledge of the perfumer. However, for a bespoke service, the way she handled the prepared bottled and boxed it should have been a special moment. It was just a "here you go" kind of affair. Makes me compare with the Japanese masters who really give care and attention 100% of the time. All in all a great video to broaden understanding of fragrance and notes etc. A job well done.
I used to love Floris as a place to visit and sometimes purchase but of recent times the staff just jump on you as you go in and don’t give you a chance to look around. Prefer the penhaligons shop now.

I love brut as well but it’s damn to thin for me now that I’ve been exposed too extraits and elixirs 😢😂 aramis though now that’s a powerful juice! I love neroli as well but it’s so scarce cause that’s what Coca-Cola uses as the secret natural flavour for coke. Once neroli is in a perfume, you already know it’s going to be amazing. Would have also tried out the Oud but I understand it’s a smell that’s a bit intimidating to most. Amazing video I wish you could make this a series in future maybe. Props still.

Quite often there was front-loading of the fragrance with an expression of preference / non-preference by Penny. That would influence Kirby's own impression of the fragrance, maybe in a subtle way but definitely with an effect.
I was thinking the same but it kinda got me thinking about Kirby’s channel and who he tends to interview/seek the services of. There is a leaning towards institutes that have had longevity, and I think that’s the point. This person has seen thousands of people and made bespoke fragrances for all of them, she knows how to read what people like. And her taste on top is what has put her in that position. Whilst it may seem she influences the decisions I think that’s part of what you’re paying for. She is an expert in her field hired by an institution that know who to hire. And hey Kirby looked pretty surprised and satisfied at the end. At times I thought she looked slightly disorganised but I think that just highlights the artist at work that creates the greatness of these institutions. Look at John in the suits series, absolute nutter that created magic
Once you reach 71, like me, you'll find no cologne or perfume excites you anymore. I've gone thru about 100 and still come back to my favorite: Clinique Aromatics Elixir.
Sad but understandable to see a british niche clone house the likes of Floris to pretend they've ever created anything original. I suggest a visit to Geo F. Trumper, Atkinsons for references of British perfumery rather than Floris which embarrassingly larps as a traditional perfumer only to reformulate it's vintage clones of the french school of perfumery.
Juan Floris may have been from a British overseas territory but it's factually wrong to say he was British, as being from a British overseas territory did not grant you British nationality. It seems that modern conceptions and aplications of nationality are being misapplied to history here. It's fair to say it's a British brand, after 300 years, however. Thanks for the video.

Excellent video Kirby. I'm a big Floris fan. I plan to have a Bespoke fragrance created by them. I noticed that you were quite intrigued with Vetiver. I love to wear Vetiver on damp or rainy days. The earthiness of the Vetiver smells very good when there's moisture in the air. Creed's Vetiver (formulated in 1948) is the best Vetiver scent I've ever smelled. This is not to be confused with Creed's fragrance called 'Original Vetiver'.
Wonderful video. I always go in with the intention to just to sample things, yet I always seem to buy something! Last week it was their Islay fragrance and I couldn't be happier. I'm so grateful that you concentrate on the same fine craftspeople that produce the things that I thoroughly enjoy and cherish, in this modern world with the mass perception of what are 'luxury brands' I feel that it's increasingly important to support businesses like Floris.

Vetiver is so wonderful, a good floral-citrus pairing is petitgrain, from the Seville orange, which is also where neroli is also from. So glad she explained neroli vs orange blossom. What a passionate lady
Choosing your own fragrance is very difficult I find. I say that because I've worn some odd choices and experienced odd results from people. For instance, when I was growing up, the overly popular fragrances for men were things like Polo, Eternity for Men, etc. I did something weird and wore two fragrances at once; Issey Miyake L'eau D'Issey and Elizabeth Taylor's Passion for men. Those two fragrances on me at the same time got so many compliments and no one could tell what I was wearing but, more often than not, they loved it. Another time I was looking for something new and a little more recent and the woman at the fragrance counter gave me quite a few samples to take home. One, in particular, I really liked the smell of. I started wearing it regularly and women seemed to really love it. I could never remember nor pronounce the name of it but I was shocked at the response to it over every other fragrance I had worn in my entire life. When I located the tester after deciding to buy a bottle of it, I found out it was a woman's perfume I had been wearing the entire time. I did not buy a bottle for myself but I really think fragrance is a very individual thing and you should wear what works for you and not worry about whether its made for a man or a woman.
This would be a joy to experience. I do find it odd the perfumer doubted brands use real ambergris still when you can absolutely find plenty of niche and indie brands at the very least using it. Some even in the UK like Papillon Artisan Perfumes.
I always loved Floris London especially their 1962 perfume which was a masterpiece! Unfortunately lately the brand is going downhill discontinuing their private perfume line and changing their packaging with this ugly new design. I understand they want to cater to a different audience however, the brand is losing their identity. Becoming one of those commercial perfume brands. Great historical brand just moving the wrong way in my opinion.
When I found out that 1962 was being discontinued I bought a few bottles, it really was something special. Hopefully they'll have a rethink and we'll see a return.

It's also a misconception that people didn't bathe as much as we do now, mainly as a result of decades of inaccurate, Hollywood, artistic license.

Vetiver is so wonderful, a good floral-citrus pairing is petitgrain, from the Seville orange, which is also where neroli is also from.

Choosing your own fragrance is very difficult I find. I say that because I've worn some odd choices and experienced odd results from people. For instance, when I was growing up, the overly popular fragrances for men were things like Polo, Eternity for Men, etc. I did something weird and wore two fragrances at once; Issey Miyake L'eau D'Issey and Elizabeth Taylor's Passion for men. Those two fragrances on me at the same time got so many compliments and no one could tell what I was wearing but, more often than not, they loved it. Another time I was looking for something new and a little more recent and the woman at the fragrance counter gave me quite a few samples to take home. One, in particular, I really liked the smell of. I started wearing it regularly and women seemed to really love it. I could never remember nor pronounce the name of it but I was shocked at the response to it over every other fragrance I had worn in my entire life. When I located the tester after deciding to buy a bottle of it, I found out it was a woman's perfume I had been wearing the entire time. I did not buy a bottle for myself but I really think fragrance is a very individual thing and you should wear what works for you and not worry about whether its made for a man or a woman.
This would be a joy to experience. I do find it odd the perfumer doubted brands use real ambergris still when you can absolutely find plenty of niche and indie brands at the very least using it. Some even in the UK like Papillon Artisan Perfumes.

I always loved Floris London especially their 1962 perfume which was a masterpiece! Unfortunately lately the brand is going downhill discontinuing their private perfume line and changing their packaging with this ugly new design. I understand they want to cater to a different audience however, the brand is losing their identity. Becoming one of those commercial perfume brands. Great historical brand just moving the wrong way in my opinion.
When I found out that 1962 was being discontinued I bought a few bottles, it really was something special. Hopefully they'll have a rethink and we'll see a return.
