    Is it worth considering the Intel Arc A770 if you're building a desktop computer in 2024? Well, both yes and no- but there seem to be some identifiable trends that may help you come to a conclusion as to whether or not it's the right card for your machine!
    The Intel Arc A770 is a performance segment graphics card launched as a part of their first generation, code-named Alchemist, of discrete graphics cards! Surprisingly though, Intel has been in the GPU business for decades and you have probably experienced one of their GPUs integrated into a CPU. By percentage of devices sold with Intel graphics, they account for the majority of graphics solutions sold per year- however can their mobile expertise translate to the high performance, high power budget desktop discrete market? Well... surprisingly yes and no...
    Test System Specs:
    - Intel Core i5-13600k, 5.5GHz-P, 4.0GHz-E
    - Corsair H150i 360mm AIO
    - Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Elite AX DDR4
    - 64GB 3600MT/s G.Skill DDR4
    - Intel Arc A770 16GB Sparkle Titan OC
    - WDB SN770 1TB PCIe 4.0 for games

    A GPU is a separate bank of ALUs and FPUs, designed to offload heavily parallelizable calculations from the main CPU onto a dedicated chip. The Graphics Card refers to the entire sub-system, containing the PCB, Memory, and Cooling solution.
    Building a Budget PC can be tough. Not only are GPUs and CPUs so incredibly expensive, but they can be hard to find on a budget... But, there are tips and tricks to finding you your dream Budget GPU, and pairing it with a CPU that will give you the performance you want!

    I purchased the A770-16GB LE back in late December of 2022.
    Somehow I largely avoided the early in-game driver issues, though I did fight a bit with at least three installers.
    The key to a good ARC experience (in my case) was not installing ARC control.
    I did not encounter the resource hogging in the Task Manager or the constant annoying popups.
    Overall, it has been a very good experience.
    I even use my card for VR.

    In my country the A770 16GB is 30€ more expensive than the 4060 , but as a 1440p@165hz monitor owner , i cant consider any 8gb card as an option , which also rules out the 7600 non-XT , which costs 30€ less than the 4060 itself
    Also , for personal/moral reasons , I am unwilling to buy Nvidia at all for my next GPU purchase , only considering Intel and AMD options , all my previous gpu purchases were nvidia as they were the best VFM at the time when I made them (750ti in 2014 and 1660ti in 2019) but now I see the increasing monopoly nvidia enjoys and the close-source nature of their software as a threat , and so , I want to support the alternatives no matter what
    But , even if that wasnt the case , Nvidia's lack of VRAM would be a turn-off regardless

    My impression is that the architecture in ARC is much more playable and more detail with lot better frame time. 1080p you might get more FPS from 4060 but I would argue the experience is better from the ARC. This shows to me the difference in architecture that on Nvidia tries to fill the gaps and inconsistency of the frame time by doubling the FPS. So the reality is more like dividing the FPS of the Nvidia by 2 to have more accurate comparison or multiply the ARC by 2. This would make more sense when talking 4k. 40FPS treshold and over the ARC is very playable. Maybe even 30FPS. Compare that to 4060 that can't deliver on 60FPS or even 120FPS that you would get from 4070ti for example. I put this to the CPU/GPU pairing and REBAR/E-Cores. Also has to be said the bus on Nvidia is not capable. ARC does twice the work but still only show the single results. Twice meaning GPU + CPU. So is it fair to claim 30FPS from the ARC actually equals 60FPS performance. It is a bit of a gray area. But what comes to play-ability it is clear that ARC can with lot less FPS. I think this is also the reason why INTEL gave us a tool to pair the ARC and compare to the right CPU because it has a huge impact on the performance.

    • @Saabjock
      @Saabjock 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I too, find my A770-16 to be extremely smooth in gameplay...almost television-like.
      Most of the reviews I've read, have mentioned frame-time pacing issues. I don't have any such issues...never have.
      I did spend a lot of time and did quite a bit of research to optimize my BIOS.

    • @paulboyce8537
      @paulboyce8537 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Saabjock I believe different architecture should be reviewed different. FPS vs FPS doesn't seem to give the true performance once you get over the threshold to playable. In AMD/Nvidia the GPU does most of the executions. That is one processor. INTEL ARC uses both GPU and CPU much more equally. That is two processors. Then there is the Wattage that universally is considered to equal FPS. 4060 has 115W available. A770 has 225W but you also need to take in count the CPU. It doesn't add up just to rely on FPS. I believe there should be another measure to compare for the true performance. Then there is that many of the games are capped for example 200FPS at 1080p. ARC often seems to show half of that while AMD/Nvidia are close to 200FPS. Even that the Wattage would clearly allow same FPS. It feels like the ARC is also hitting the top but the FPS counter doesn't show it. It only shows half. Could this be one vs two processors and the counter only sees one or something like that? You seem to notice this more when you go up on resolution. I think there is lot more we should know.

    I am using an A770 LE I got used, and I have had no major issues, but I was a late adopter. I may be an outlier. I will point out that I had some odd graphics glitches in decade-old titles like Champions Online, Neverwinter Online and Star Trek Online - all coincidentally from the same studio using the same engine as I understand it and possibly based on DX9 or a DX9to11 kludge already. Minor settings changes corrected these issues, since the card defaulted to its max settings caused antialiasing and brightness issues in these old games. The even older City of Heroes and Earth & Beyond Emulator work just fine, for reasons I can't identify. Talk about niche cases, though! For me, it's been more than adequate, and solid enough that I am looking carefully at the Battlemage cards as well as nVidia and AMD offerings for my next build. Of course, since I have a reasonably solid system as is, I might just skip a couple upgrade cycles and see what is happening and if Intel gets to the Celestial/Druid cards with this level of progress. Now, *that* will be interesting to see...

    It's clear that it's hard to disrupt when the software is written for graphics purposes - games, design software, video editeing, you name it. this is exactly why as Intel's driver team work with the industries and in return, the performance increases accordingly. We need Intel to do well here as consumers as while AMD is still punching up, NVIDIA needs to be made to care and kept honest by good and innovative competition!

However if I had more disposable income and the Arc weren't as expensive as they are here I would like to have an A770 and tinker with it. Intel indeed make something great with the Alchemist architecture and it shows that increasing resolution does not halve the framerate like on other cards. Rx 7600 & rx 6700(10gb) are cheaper at the same performance

      for now.. if they ever get their drivers together, which they seem to be doing now, the arc will surpass a lot of cards that are currently better.

      A770 16gb spec itself is almost on par with the 4070. And already smoke those for productivity.
      The only thing that hold the gpu now is the driver , hope intel will improve the driver more to maximize the gpu in gaming.

    лучшая карта для 2к, с запасом на будущее, плюс у ее много тензорных ядер, которые будут полезны для ИИ, и любого использования ИИ в играх, а оно случится в ближайшее время

      Intel hasn't been in the market for long so until they catch up to Nvidia and AMD for performance which Nvidia and AMD have had decades of experience and Intel haven't had time to do anything like optimising etc before people review bombed them but I believe they have a good chance in the future for 1440p and even 4k

      Don’t understand why we don’t just have a few gpu total a 1080 card for 299 a 1440p card for 549 and a 4k card for 799

      @@coryhunnicutt123187 Maybe i want a 500hz 1080p monitor with a RTX 4090. Everyone plays at whatever resolution they want. Monitors tend to go obselete after 10 years so most gamers have the 1080p monitor they is good enough
