    Two questions (I have the exact same model):
    1. Did the temps dropped after replacing the thermal paste? Mine reaches 78-80°, is it too much? (but has the warranty sticker so i cant teardown and change thermal paste :c )
    2. I use only one cable from the psu to the card (it splits in 2 cables with 6+2pins each), should I use two separate cables? Any vantage? thank you and sorry for my bad English

    I just watched to make sure I didn’t miss any screws on my XC3 Black Gaming. Turns out I didn’t, the thermal pads just were like super glue. Twisting didn’t seem to work well for me.
    Ended up heating the radiator with a 1kW hair dryer for some time to get it separated. Had it in an itx case with no room to breathe, so water cooling was my only solution.

    Can you please explain which resistors to shunt for a 3080TI XC3 Ultra? Sounds like if I want to just get a stable boost clock and not hit the power limit constantly, I'd do the 5 shunts by the PCI 8-pin connectors. Also did you use your superglue method for this shunt mod?

    The firmware doesn't fix the powerlimit bug, I tried the firmware update last night when they dropped the new Precision X1. I asked for help on their forums and no response from them. As it is my card is limited to 320-330w which is crazy low.

    • @FrameChasers
      @FrameChasers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep seems like it, I’m testing that now, anything over 1v and the card gets way too hot for any meaningful clock increase

    • @toctoc9927
      @toctoc9927 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe a late answer, sorry about that, but I can tell you that by undervolting these EVGA cards you're getting pretty nice results
      I run mine at 1950Mhz@906mV and VRAM OC @1300Mhz, deshrouded the card and with decent cooling you'll keep it below 80°C
      The card won't run into the power limit and the frequency is pretty damn consistent

    Any chance you can do some early temperature scaling. Basically blast some AC or cold outdoor air (if available) and see what the % change in average core clock is at say 50c vs 80c. I have a pretty good custom loop that kept my 1080 Ti below 40c in all but summertime. I gained about 125-150mhz OC over air OC at 80c. Used a modded BIOS as well. Didn't get higher clocks, but it kept them stable. TBH, this is probably the realistic the "ideal" scenario for the 3080/3090. At this point, it looks like the 3090 KPE HC is going to be the only card to get >20% FPS increase over the 3080... which is a big sad (likely going to cost $2500).

    • @FrameChasers
      @FrameChasers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The power supply itself doesn’t limit the spec of how much power can be pulled from it, that’s why when you shunt the previous gen cards you can hit 500 watts one two 8 pins, it’s just a spec but it doesn’t have to be followed

      @@FrameChasers Mine comes in Wednesday - so I'll do my own tests. There are also multiple videos of people already OC-ing XC3 Ultra's and they're hitting board power values of 350 watts+
      I'm not sure why you're getting different results, what your benching looks like, or what your test setup looks like - but something seems off if other people are getting the exact same card and having quite different results.
      Additionally, if you want to chalk that up to Silicone Lottery for YOUR card in specific - then that's perfectly acceptable? However, if that is the case, then you need to be honest about that fact in the end and not just say "Hey guys, there's no headroom in these cards". Various other reviews on YT are grabbing different results than your demonstration. Sorry, man - I'm just telling you what's out there on YT already.
      Also - X1 is made BY that team FOR that card. Don't be ridiculous. You'd be stupid not to use the software for which the card was actually intended.

    • @superpookie777
      @superpookie777 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FrameChasers Not to mention - @19:56 - You say, "Once these Apps and Drivers get updated so you can actually increase that mystery sensor by 7%..." - How can you say any of that when you didn't stick with the software that card was designed to use? It's just unbelievable that your knowledge of electronics is incredibly detailed, but your troubleshooting methods are sub-par. Jesus, I mean just for consistency, do the same tests within X1 and compare? It doesn't make sense not to do that, man. Just to further re-enforce your findings.
      @20:52 - "The overclocking apps aren't ready" - Same thing here - how can they not be ready if X1 is designed for this and you've neglected to use it.
      And as a lasting point - you say we're not going to be able to push these any further until we get better overclocking applications, but those percentages are already pre-determined? What should have been discussed is the opportunity for upcoming custom BIOS sets that allow for higher power targets.

    • @FrameChasers

      Rane I used X1, I said that in the video already, you can move the power slider in X1 as well but it will never go above 100%. The wierd thing is GPU-Z will ready 330-350watts regardless of the slider is moved or not. But anyway it doesnt matter I have a successful shunt mod now so I don’t need the power slider to be fixed
