Bernard and Bianca are one of the best Disney couples! There's an initial attraction, they see the best of each other, are vulnerable with each other, and it's just really believable chemistry. And I love how they go from the inexperienced underdogs to basically celebrity status in the RAS. Fun fact: At one point Disney considered doing a Rescuers 3, but with Eva Gabor's passing, it just wouldn't have been right to have anyone else voice Bianca.
I adore Bernard and Bianca as a couple! They fit eachother so well! 😻 aww... yeah I can see why they didn't want to film another Rescuers film... it really wouldn't be the same without Eva...
@a.g.demada5263 Did not know that. Rest in peace to him as well. We are losing many of the older actors and actresses who have lent their voices to many beloved characters over the years
@@robin_the_red_fox4082 he died in 2020 but this guy is special for us, french, because during his whole career, he was behind the voices of a lot of Disney characters of my childhood (sometimes, two or three in one movie) 😔 he was nicknamed " the 1000 voices' man " If you want an idea of this, he was Kaa, Sir Hiss, King Hubert (from " Sleeping Beauty "), Roquefort and Lafayette, the Cheshire Cat, Jiminy Cricket, the woodpecker in " The Fox and the Hound "), Winnie the Pooh, Piglet and Coco Rabbit, Timothée (the mouse from " Dumbo "), Basil (the mouse detective), one of the first voice of Mickey Mouse, Pongo (he uses his real voice for him), Jock and Joe the cook in " Lady and the Tramp ")... If you ever wondered what Bianca's accent is, it's Hungarian. Eva Gabor was one third of a trio of extremely attractive Hungarian sisters (fled to the US before WWII, they were Jewish) who became big stars in Hollywood. Eva had only 5 husbands in her lifetime which meant she had the least amount of husbands among her sisters (Magda had 6, Zsa Zsa had 9)
omg she was a Hungarian Jew like me 😻 part of my family lived in Hungary before and during WWII - some were able to flee, others didn't... that's good to know Eva and her sisters were able to leave before the war started 🙏
The albatrosses from both The Rescuers movies were named after the Wright Bros. the first who managed to fly with the first ever functioning airplane or flying machine as they were called at that point. It's fitting because boith Orville and Wilburg are flight pilots. The reason Wilbur replaced Orville in this was because of Orville's voice actor Jim Jordan death in 1988. Quite ironically and sadly, Wilbur's voice actor John Candy passed away in 1994, four years after the release of this movie.
The Rescuers was the end of The Dark Ages of Disney, The Rescuers Down Under was part of the Disney Renaissance. Orville and Wilbur are the Wright brothers
George C Scott nailed his performance as McLeach. And Douglas Seale, who voiced the koala, went on to another Disney role, that of the Sultan in Aladdin.
This was one of the films that Disney tried its new animation techniques. Gorgeous shots though, really. I kind of hope they give us more Rescuers. There are like a whole slew of ecosystems for them to visit.
This movie came out on the same day as Home Alone and Rocky V, so it got destroyed at the box office. There were plans to make a Rescuers TV show, but because this film did so poorly, they instead used Chip & Dale and turned the show into Rescue Rangers. The Prince and the Pauper Mickey Mouse cartoon played before this movie in theaters. Since it was a 20-minute short, there was an intermission between the short and the movie. You can find footage of the intermission timer on TH-cam. It has Mickey and the prince in it telling the audience that there will be a break before the movie starts.
oh wow the same day?? that's rough lol and I heard that it also came out in between The Little Mermaid and Beauty in the Beast so no wonder it did so poorly in the box office... oof that's a real shame... just shows that timing can sometimes play a key element 😅 This si the second time I read about Chip & Dale but I've never heard of them! I'll look into it lol Edit: literally just looked them up and recognized them IMMEDIATELY so nevermind 😹😹😹
Fun fact, another extinct bird that is widely considered to have been the largest of all birds was the harpagornis, or “Haast’s Eagle” after the man who discovered it, Julius von Haast.
From what I read the Haast eagle went extinct somewhere in the 1400's so no wonder it was considered the largest at the time - the big fluff was a beast! Until around the 1980's when Argentavis was discovered, followed by the Pelagornis Sandersi (at around the same time) - which were freakin huge and had more or less the same wingspan size. I think it's still being debated amongst Palaeontologists which one of the two is the largest flying bird of all time (that we know of)
This sequel is another of my 90's childhood favorites! That McCleach and Joanna were so funny and Wilbur was funny too, especially during that hospital part!😉🤣 Only problem is we should've actually seen Cody finally returned home and reunited with his mother at the end😒
hahaha it's a good one that's for sure 😋 I still feel bad for little Joanna 😹😅 and I agree! at least let us see his mom reunite with the son she thought was eaten by gators! 😹
This movie is part of the Disney Renaissance (1989-1999) but not many people really talk about it, because it’s a sequel and because it’s sandwiched between ‘The Little Mermaid’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast’.
oh yeah if it came out around the same as the Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast I can see why it was overshadowed, which is a shame tbf cause it's a really good film
Well done Linda you watched The Rescuers Down Under today to complete the trilogy as The Rescuers last week and I used to watch these movies as a kid too great memories there.
I grew up, loving this movie and preferred it much more over the first one. Something about the wild adventure and journey at this point takes is so fascinating as a child. In regards to your comment about Disney being able to put darker thematic material in this movie. I appreciated the time that Disney did not treat children like they were stupid and did not pander to them. You know who Don Bluthe is, he wrote and directed the land before time. His constant comment was at children can handle much more than we think they can and then we should not talk down to them or pretend that they don’t understand what’s going on. I think it’s important to not sugarcoat or hide the reality of the world from children
A lot of people really enjoyed this one over the first one haha 😋 I completely agree with you, children can handle more than we think and certain things shouldn't be sugarcoated - if anything it'll make things harder for them when they get older, at least in my opinion. And it's part of the process of feeling emotions, even if they are hard - like seeing Little Foot's mother die 😿😿😿😿😿 (since you mentioned The Land Before Time)
Yes! Glad to see this one watched and appreciated. Another one of my favorites, but said who I liked already elsewhere. This is one where the sequel that blows the original (still good) out of the water. I both envy Cody and don't for getting to fly with/on Marahute... and I've named some female bird pokemon after her as well as a shiny Rattata named Bianca. Shiny Yanmega named Evinrude too as well from the previous one. Its insane how gentle she is tickling the boy with her talon and not even a slight rip in his shirt! Those medical mice would never want to visit... using a shotgun to administer 'shots' and a fucking chainsaw?! lol
Yeah this movie needs more love and hype that's for sure 😋🤘 hahaha I feel the same - I would've loooved to have been in Cody's shoes while flying around on the back of Marahute 😻 the medical mice were the best 😹
And just think, this was only the second film to use this style of animation. Shame that after having a huge financial hit with Little Mermaid that saved theatrical animation from going under, this bombed super hard because while I have seen a lot of people declaring this a downgrade from the first one ever since JelloApocalypse said it had the exact same problems as their direct-to-video films, I still feel this is the better film. The only thing I don't like is that comic relief frilled lizard. Every moment with him is not only painfully unfunny but really pointless. (Though as one of my friends also pointed out, Penny did a lot more to contribute to the plot than Cody. Kinda funny considering Doug Walker claims her only purpose was just to be 'pwecious' and nothing else)
Aww that's a shame people think this is a downgrade - I mean I personally adore the animation style and think it's wonderful, especially since it was the second time that it was used. I totally get what you mean about the lizard tho - As I was editing the video I got annoyed by him a lot 😹 And I agree with your friend, I also feel Penny contributed more to the plot, not that Cody didn't but yeah I enjoyed Penny more
Large eagles, especially bald eagles (and albatrosses for that matter) mate for life. The female won't find another mate unless her mate dies. They both incubate the egg, but most of the incubation will be left to the female who will be left with the eggs during night. Albatross 'divorce' rates have gone up recently with climate change, though
The first Rescuers movie is good but personally, I believe The Rescuers Down Under is superior with greater writing, more memorable music, a more terrifying antagonist and greater stakes with more heart-pumping action. Not only that, I feel it's the very best Disney sequel of them all. Regardless of our difference of opinions on the two movies though, I'm glad you like both movies and I enjoy watching your reactions/listening to your comments. Also, as of the time I'm typing this? Merry Christmas to you. If you don't celebrate it, then just think of it as me spreading cheer and good will. Looking forward to more reactions and commentary from you, on your own time. 😄
That's totally fair! And I do agree that as far as sequels go, it's definitely one of the good ones 🤘 I'm happy to hear you enjoy the reactions 😋 Aww thank you! I personally don't celebrate it but Merry (late) Christmas to you! 😋 I hope you had a good holiday and have a great new year 😺
Imo, this is one of the very rare instances where the sequel is vastly superior to the original in every way. It's arguably the single best Disney animated sequel ever, the only other ones that are in the argument for me are You Story 2 and Toy Story 3.
A lot of people agree this sequel is better than the original and I can totally see why (Down Under really is a fabulous and visually beautiful film) - I still think the OG ie better, I think it thanks to Penny tbf 😹

Ah yes, the proof Disney can make a great sequel! - if they feel like it 😅
hahaha good point 😹
Marahute - i always assumed she was the writer's attempt at thier own tolkien eagle
I thought that as well until I read it's based off of the Haast Eagle (I think 😹)
This movie came out in 1990 if I remember correctly. So it was 14-15 years after the first movie.
Yep it came out in 1990 you are most definitely correct
In Austraia, they have aa type of wild boar called a razorback.
yeah I realised that afterwards when the poacher called it a razorback 😹

I think this was early Renaissance Disney flims after the Little Mermaid
Whereas the original Rescuers was from the 70s
Medusa and McLeach IMO are two of the most realistic villains in Disney history
Yeah they are pretty realistic villians that's for sure!

You think you can handle The Fox and The Hound?
I watched it many times when I was a kid 🤣 I cry every time I watch it lol
It’s a wonderful film that’s for sure 🤘🏻
@TheCatPrideCinema Same, absolute tear-jerker.
Now keep watching more Disney movies for the long times OK.
I love that movie but.. were do have Wilbur his radio when he calls Jake? O.o
Idc I love this movie. Idk why people crap on it so much
No idea people don’t like this film 🤣 the majority of peeps here at least really like this film 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
It really is a good one that’s for sure 😋
If you haven't watched Beauty and the Beast (1991) I want to see you react to it
I've seen it a few years ago 😹
certainly loved you talking over and ignoring the most impressive animation scene in the whole damn movie. totally not what people came here to see.
