Now that's how you make an instructional video. No nonsense/pain in the ass honesty/no unnecessary BLAHBLAHBLAH and little tips that eliminate getting ur teeth knocked out. ThankYou Jim.
I don't know bout picking your teeth up off of the floor but I almost lost 2 fingers a few years ago by loosening the piston rod nut while holding the spring. I knew better but my mind was on something else at the time I guess. I was so embarrassed I completed the job with 2 broken and mangled fingers. Do it yourselfers need to know that compressed coil springs can be very dangerous. Great job as usual, Jim.
+wysetech2000 Thank you for your input.I thought that maybe i should have taken out the part about picking up you teeth but judging by the response it was good that I left it in.
thanks, that helped a lot.. however, i wish you would have listed what tools you used to get to the bolts in the trunk.. it looked like you used maybe 2 swivels and had some clearance in the rear.. but it was hard to see.
Great video!! Wish I had a lift.. lol.. Anyway, yes, those inside bolts are a major pain in the ass!! I did it bit different. I folded down the back seat and went through that way. Still a pain!! THANKS for the video!!
Warning was right the first time b/c that spring will cause injury or death like the warning tag states so if someone does take the bearing plate strut nut off holding the spring tension there's no telling where that will end up. You were right about the rear nuts being a PITA but they are easier to get to than a lot of cars you have to dismantle just to get to the tower nuts. Nice video Jim!
No b/c they need to understand that spring can kill so if all it does is knock your teeth out then you should consider yourself very luck. I've seen the damage to a concrete wall when a spring compressor arm broke & it'll get your attention really fast and we all were thankful nobody got hurt plus we told the service manager at the time to never let a certain mechanic near a coil spring again...LOL
Just looking for ideas on how to get a second bolt out of the rear strut. You skipped it. . evidently the hardest part of the job If you don't have the right tool . I was able to get it with a 6 inch extension coming down from the top.
Hey Jim, I'm having an issue putting in rear Quick Struts on my Maxima of the same vintage. The 2 studs up top aren't aligned correctly like the originals so I can't get the bottom through bolt to fit. Outside of compressing the springs and reorienting the strut mount, I can't think of a way to align everything. So much for "quick" struts... Have you encountered such an issue before?
good and informative video. I have just acquired a 2000 Q45 , does a lot of side to side movement on the highway a CX real slush bucket and so far I suspect struts, I pumped up the tires so what else, right? but my other cars are 72, 70 and 75, comet, coronet and Econoline. this looks easier than I thought but wow! struts are craaaazy expensive, and not even available for the Q45 2000. 1300 for a set?? the car ain't barely worth that..then labor is what it is.
I was wondering if I should replace the suspension. I have over 180,000. when I got the car I replaced the tires cuz it was driving unbalanced. but there still is a problem when I drive at high speeds. the car sways
no, I don't think there are any leaks or rust. seems to still ride well but, as I posted on another of your vids, the car has always pulled to the left. Alignments are always good but the driver side rear axle is "off" a little. I'm thinking I have to have the frame straightened or the rear links replaced. Or could be a strut was slightly bent on the rear? No one has been able to figure it out. I think it's "dog tracking".
Scott L if the car is dog tracking then there must be a problem. Was the car in an accidents? The alignment shop should check to make sure that the left and right side are exactly the same length from the front to the rear
yes, it had been wrecked before I bought it. Alignments always result if a reading that says the drivers side rear axle is slightly off. No one seems to know what to do about it. I notice at higher speeds it drives better 70 to 85mph. 50 to 70 seems the worst. Since the struts have never been replaced, I thought it might be a good place to start along with the rears links and then straighten the frame or ? axle?
Excellent video however my struts seem to be just a bit hard to get back in place, and is resting on the boot. How do I compress the strut to line it up or do I need to loosen something else to get the bottom bolts in?
+wyattoneable Thank you Wyatt Yea he got his moneys worth on them for sure. You know I was going to take out the "picking up your teeth" but decided to leave it in just so people know how dangerous the strut and spring are..Lol

This is very informational thank you so much! Here 6years later! About to try to do my rear struts on my 96 I30 👏🏽

Great video. My homeboy wants me to do this to his 2001 i30. I may have to say "yes" now that I know the whole procedure. Just subscribed!
Thank you for watching good luck.
How'd it go? I am contemplating replacing the fronts on my '01 i30...

Nice job Jim, answered all my questions

This was the exact information we were looking for too, thank you!
I just used a very small socket wrench and hand tightened it
I like this guy. He is cool and he knows his ish
No front end alignment needed?
Great video Jim ! and u are right with the first warning👍 They will be lucky if teeth is all the loose !
+N Smith Thank you for your feedback.Maybe I should have left the part about picking up you teeth up off the floor out.Lol
Excellent video. Complete and clear explanations.
Larry Wolpert Appreciate the comment, thanks for watching my video!

What is the brand of the ones you bought?
Helped me out alot good job man
good info as always Jim, thanks for sharing.
+j georges Thank you for watching and for your feedback

Wow 1300.00 for the set?
Where can I get struts for a 2000 Infiniti Q45 Anniversary Edition. Yes with the electronics on top.
I was wondering if I should replace the suspension. I have over 180,000. when I got the car I replaced the tires cuz it was driving unbalanced. but there still is a problem when I drive at high speeds. the car sways
What year ?
Great video but the only struts I can find are like $250 each. Any other options?
@Achote671 don't do all four at once 2 &2
Link to the struts you purchased?
How much was all this I have the same car model literally?
You think this'll work on a 1998 model?
Thanks for another great video.
+RareDiamond Ching Thank you for watching and your input
I have a 1998 Infinity I30. Struts have never been replaced. 163k miles on it now. Should I replaced them?
That is a lot of miles. Are the struts leaking? Is there a lot of rust?
no, I don't think there are any leaks or rust. seems to still ride well but, as I posted on another of your vids, the car has always pulled to the left. what was the price for this sturts?
Could those have been the original struts that you replaced jim?
+davemaster001 Hi yes I think they were.He really got his moneys worth .Lol
How many miles on this one Jim
+john1240able Think jim said 180k
+john1240able Hi John,this one has 170,000+
Thanks for sharing
It needs to get alignment?
Yes for sure.
Excellent video however my struts seem to be just a bit hard to get back in place, and is resting on the boot. How do I compress the strut to line it up or do I need to loosen something else to get the bottom bolts in?
Usually when you remove the bolts from the strut you can push down the lower control arm with a long pry bar
Thanks
Good call on replacing all four, they looked pretty used up. I like "picking up your teeth" take better. lol
+wyattoneable Thank you Wyatt Yea he got his moneys worth on them for sure. You know I was going to take out the "picking up your teeth" but decided to leave it in just so people know how dangerous the strut and spring are..Lol
Good job jimmy.
+Eddie Martinez Thank you eddie
Ya, don't take that nut off, learned that the hard way. should have watched this first!
Thank you for watching
How much would this all cost?
My guess is $200 labor per corner. If someone knows who does it cheaper, let me know.
I bought all four for like 200-300
Not including tools for the fronts, I used my work’s tools for the rears
Go to eBay 96 bucks
Thanks for watching.
