I had a K70 with the aperture block issue. It was used weekly for 9 months when it started. The only lens I had at the time didn't have an aperture ring. Bought new through B&H. It was too expensive to ship for repairs. I ended up purchasing a different solenoid and replacing it myself. It's been working fine since. There is no denying that they used inferior parts. It is a great camera when it works. I understand the frustration.
Lee I am in Prague I had to free up my son's apature block again I used your method again which worked, again I finally talked him ou of the automatic mode and in to using apature priority to stop the problem. For my trip I took the Sigma 18-250 3.5 - 5.6 , the 55-300 PLM , Pentax 35mm2.4 and a Pentax 50mm 1.7 and a Rokinon 8mm 3.5 for wide angle pictures like church interiors and exterior pictures I have used all the lenses I have taken with me for various pictures I could have left two lenses if I had the Pentax 20-40 mm limited lens
One excellent feature of the 55-300 PLM is often overlooked: the very low minimum focus distance of 0.95 m at 300 mm with 0.3x magnification. The 300 DA* has 1.4 m and 0.24x magnification. For semi-macro work, such as on fast moving insects as butterflies and dragonflies, the 55-300 PLM has at 300 mm a very useful balance of focal length and minimum focusing distance. A true macro lens needs to get closer for the same (or better) magnification but thereby usually will disturb the insect.
the aperture block issue is typically a non-use issue, it affects mainly K30, K50 and partly K70 (before 2021), there is a really good information in the Pentax forum "history of the solenoid", it explains in detail the background of that problem and possible and not so good solutions for that problem.
@@adabophotography8999 On the K-3 Mark III, just press the SR button. The options cycle through "Off, On, Panning" Panning mode is shown with lines to the left.
Thanks for the shout out Lee! Have a great time shooting the action mate.

Enjoy the panning practice. Don't forget the K-3 III has a panning SR mode 👍🏽
Where can I enable the "panning SR mode"? I can only switch the SR to "on" or "off".

@@KobieMC Thank you. Found it. I had searched in movie mode. The option is only available in photo mode.
