I"m surprised I did it. I used a heart rate device to monitor my HR pulse, lowest was 35bmp, max time was 4:05. Thanks Gert, your videos really helped. I can see my improvements.
Thank you Lord in heaven to gave as a good instructor sir Gert ❤️ I did it yes Dr 😊❤️. .. My first atemp in 4 mns I need to stop In a 3mns because I got feel stomach ache .And I try it again rest in 2mns and final breath of 4mns hold ,Yes successful yes yes .I never expect that sir .it's my new record I got 4mns yes ❤️ . Thank you sir . # dive safe. Peace ✌️ in every breath ❤️😊
Thx for this nice training session. it was a nice change of pace since before, I did my breath-holding session while listening to my favorite tracks (rock songs). Personal record in the past was 3m30s / 3m40s (a few years ago when I did both freediving and scuba actively). Now went back to practicing breath holds, did 4m10s (with music), and reached 4m20s (til the end of the video) with your "quiet" method. Gotta make more observations, but I think I'm loving it (still have problems with clearing my mind and stopping thinking during a breath hold)
Hey Gert! I managed to do 4:30 then 4:48 in apnea, never reached those numbers before! I realized that some days 4 mins it's easy but most others it seem endless! Maybe too much focus on numbers won't allow me to relax properly, i guess! Btw are there some kind of damages doing this frequently? I have learned a lot about this discipline ultimately and i think there aren't, but just to be sure 100% ! Thanks in advance!
Awesome! And yes not all days are the same. To whether frequent hypoxia damages the brain : I have yet to see a study that proves this convincingly. But it's possible.. We just dont know
great ! 5+ mins is pretty advanced most people don't get that far on my channel. the problem with a 5 min breathhold video is that the first part before the contractions is already 2:30 to 3:00 minutes and it's better i din't speak during that relaxation phase. So i don't know how that video would turn out i honestly don't think it would do well. what do you think?
@@gertleroy Thanks for the reply! That totally makes sense. I can see that considering audience. My challenge has been hitting consistent times. I hit 5:08 after a few 3+ min warmups one time, then did a 5:40 after doing a 25 min C02 table another time. I was not training consistently leading up to either hold. I just can’t seem to replicate either way. The guided hold was super helpful so any tips or benchmarks times I should keep in mind along each hold would be most appreciated! Lately I’ve only been hitting about 4:15.
@@AlexanderEast we are all different. some people need multiple warmups, others do a max on the first try. there are no bench marks. this is something you have to fins out yourself. don't do max breathholds every session. do submaximal holds like 80 to 90%. save your max attempts for once on a while. you don't run a marathon every day either. 🙏
i like the way you teach this tables! but i think this specific table needs one more warm up between 2 and 4:00 minutes. Maybe 2:45.Thanks for the excelent job and colaboration in youtube, Gert.
thanks Rod! yeah this depends on the person. I didnt include a 3rs warmup cause then you would be doing 4 breathholds and that might be a lot for some people. whatever works for you is fine! cheers 👍
You are awesome 🌷👍Eagerly waiting for your new video... Honesty I've upgraded my level thanks to you 🎉🎉🎉 We please want a video for your daily exercise routine once your time permits.

Hi Gert, I was expecting a live but that’s cool too. I watched the video and I do kinda similar. 3 sessions, or even 4, starting with low time breathold, up to a certain target or eventually trying a new PB. My latest is 5:32 and Im kind of stuck there. I target 6 but… it aint working at the moment. I was advised to do dry apnea sessions lying down ( I use a thin pillow). Is sitting better or its up to our preference? Nice video by the way, like the relaxing comments!
I find it much easier to do 4:00 when I do the time tables. I did 11 rounds going from 1:30 and adding 15 seconds in each round with 2:00 breathing between each at 3:30 it was the end of my exercise but I held it till 4:05 which was quite easy. This is my first time exercise after 4 years break - is there anything bad with this approach ?
Great video! Do you know how much o2 is still in the lungs by the time the first diaphragm contractions start to appear? And should you be more worried about building up to much Co2 or having to few o2 while holding your breath? I could not find an answer to these questions online. So i thought maybe you would know :)
o2 gets distributed into the body. so what you wanna measure is O2 saturation, you can do this with an oxymeter. at the time of your first contraction your o2 sat is probably still the same as when you started the breathhold, which is between 95 and 99 %. Allthough i should measure this to be absolutely sure. O2 sat levels begin to drop when you hold your breath for an extended amount of time, way beyond the first contraction. most beginners/intermediate stop the breathhold because of high co2, not low o2.
Hey Gert my friends are starting freediving/breath holding. can you do a "hold your breath with me" up till 1 min and 30 seconds or 1 min 45 secs Thank you it would really help😁😁🙏
Gert, your job is absolutely awesome. Im in miami for ten days, i really want to take a beginners course. Could you please give me any recommendations? I appreciate it!
in florida there must be enough freedivers and schoold you can find, and if not take a flight straight to roatan honduras and go to roatan freediving school!
Nice video! I have one question, if I do static with pulse oximeter, how far i can go with falling level of O2 (90, 80, 70%)? which value I should not to cross?
it highly depends on the level of the person. trained freedivers can go to 50% momentarily. but for most: you will abort your breathhold way sooner then reaching any kind of critical o2 level.
Gert I held a 4:05 in my PADI class and felt it was very easy but most days a 4:00 seems very difficult. How come the huge difference in what I feel I should do consistently? tnx and great videos!
Many variables can play a role.. Maybe you had a coach, maybe you like static more in the water, maybe you jus had a good day. Dont try to understand why. Fluctuations are part of live. When you can do 6mins, 4 will be easy 😁
You know Gert, you do a fantastic job, but I think, at 73 years old, that I'll stop at 3 minutes...no sense pushing the "envelope!! I still had gas in the tank at 3 minutes, but for now, that's good enough for me!
