    I couldn’t complete this until the third try, taking it slow and giving myself a day of rest between tries. During that third time, I started to feel contractions toward the end but I held through it focusing on your comforting voice to relax. I finally did it! I felt amazing and I was in such a good mood the whole day. I didn’t realize how much an impact being able to hold my breath, relaxing and enjoying the moment would be. Thanks so much Mr. Leroy!!!

      @@gertleroy This was the very first video I watched. I have also some experience with breathing as I used it in the past as part of my PT. I observed that my problem is that I sort of panic during the first sense of discomfort while holding the breath. I have no clue why as I know it can't do me any harm and it is just an urge to get more oxy, but somehow at this point I can't fight it. Which is interesting because as I indicated I'm a sport guy who knows what is to suffer while doing something more intensive.
      Nevertheless I will re watch that video again in case I don't remember it all and I will try to do the 1,5min training during a period of month or so to see if I get any further observation or clue "what is wrong with me"

    What impact does age play in breath holding capacity? I would guess that the lungs lose some of their elasticity? I freedived a lot when I was younger and had very good capacity. Retired now by a lovely coast and enjoying freediving again. My capacity is probably a half of what it once was. I will continue to practice techniques to improve, but I have not seen any info anywhere on the effects of aging. Excellent channel by the way. There was nothing expect self tuition back in day.

    • @gertleroy
      @gertleroy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      that's because it's a dry breathhold. it's normal. in the water you would feel that pressure less because the water is supporting your weight. 2 ways to deal with this: 1/ get used to it (laying down might make it easier) 2/ take a slightly smaller final breath. (i wouldn't exhale during the breathhold itself cause that will mess with your relaxation)

      i'm not laughing! ;-) yeah, you have to relax the whole throat area, tongue, neck and jaw. Prevent the air from escaping through your nose by either closing the vocal chords or closing the soft palate. If you don't know what that is, that's ok. You don't need to know this at this stage. Just focus on not letting the air escape without tensing up the tongue and or throat.

    Hi Gert :) My first comment was under your 2'30" video, I could hold my breath for 38 sec only. So now I've started from this video. 30 and 45 sec - ok. but with 1 minute - I've failed in about 25 sec :( I don't know why, if with 30 and 45 sec was no problems :( I had weird feeling like a huuuge pressure in my lungs and the need of breath "in panic mode" :( maybe I shoud make a longer break between steps? And the other weird thing - I don't know why, but I can't be calm and peaceful while holding my breath. My heart starts beating faster and stronger, plus this weird feeling of high pressure in lungs. It makes me uncomfortable. So - maybe there is something wrong in my mind? Ohh... and you know what? I'm meditating from few years. And even while doing that - I got the same feelings :O I can't take long, slow breaths to relax, because I feel like without breathing. It is weird. Is this normal for beginners? Or maybe in fact something is wrong with me? Any ideas?
    Stay safe, all the best! :)

      yeah... I just watched your video "5 Reasons Why NOT to Hyperventilate When Freediving" and probably this is an explanation of that feeling of high pressure in my lungs and generally - in whole body
