Is it me, or are they getting better?
Absolutely. They are better now than ever.
I learned they haven’t practiced in over two months. Quite possible they’ve regressed from their top form during this time of inactivity.
Man! They should have Barlow's bass this high up on the mix on everything!
All hail the mighty monster Murph Amazing drummer
Fantastic sound quality. Whoever's behind the board deserves a raise.
Always at kexp. I want to kiss the engineers on the mouth and double their wage.
I love how Lou says "now what?" and Murph just communicates with him via drumming and Lou knows exactly what he means.
monster bass playing.
louuuuuuuuu
one of the few bands where the bassist can bang out bass chords almost every song and it sounds completely natural
And that amazing rickenbackers is truly a beauty
such a unique style... i've tried to copy it.. it doesn't work for me... just can't get my head round bass chords
@@ChrisJohnson-ld3wq you can but its not even close to lou

One of the most perfect bands ever
Gracias
A truly insane set
Sim!
It is a terrible shame that such musical talent and great songs hasn't been rewarded with massive commercial success.
Love these guys.
I gotta say that they did have pretty massive commercial success at one time and all it did was make them miserable. Check out some of the interviews with J where he tells it like it is. True success is being happy with what you have.
They never wanted sucess. And that's the beautifully of Dinosaur and Low And J and Evan Dando And Kurt and so many more. The Real Deal, The real anti-idol. Long live the rock
I'd say it's probably a good thing. And it's not like they're starving either.
remember....
most of America listens to GARBAGE...and would never 'get' the good shit
like DinoJr...
Be glad you are in an elite group of intelligent people
Saw them live this year and stood right in front of Lou with no ear protection, couldn’t hear for a fuckin week after but lou returned my heart and they played my requested song so worth it 100%
what song did you request?
be careful man...can't reverse the damage to your hearing. Get a set of earplugs that allow some passthrough and you'll have almost the same experience with 0 damage to your ears.
Dinosaur Jr. always puts me in a good mood.
Sometimes I just think about them without even listening and I just get happier.
@@jacksonpage1580 haha thats really great
I love dinosaur jr fans, their is honestly no hate....like ever it's truly beautiful man
Well if you look at a band like this, they are in it for the music and so are the fans. It's truly beautiful
Ethan - Fuck off. I hate you. Not really...
Mascis is probably the only guitarist that can pull off that mega cheesy flanger sound in Forget the Swan and somehow make it fit into the song! Also, this is perfection of the rock trio format!
flanger is sometimes the move
Guitar hero
Unfortunately it took him completely out of the mix.
Scott Williams LOLZ except Lou’s bass.
This is my Led Zeppelin.
Led Zeppelin and The Beatles copied Dinosaur Jr.
You are my Puddle of Mud.
this is bob dylan to me
@@NSingerProductions it'll take a minute man to get that one
wheres the R. Plant? Vox are secondary in this band
best band ever, youre living all over me is the best album ever
"The Lung" features some of the most creative use of the whammy bar in music history.
my favorite Dino whammy is Out there...he wastes no time before bending those strings!
@@palmerhightower7751 yup, you’re right this fucking guy has no clue what he’s talking about
i love how they don't even have a set list
i love how they're the greatest band of all time
just play The Lung and go from there
The first time I saw them was at the Cotton Club in Atlanta, with a little known band called Smashing Pumpkins opening. It was the loudest night of music I've ever experienced. My ears are still ringing.
Killer fucking lineup
I'll never forget the first time I saw them. My friend was like, you've got to see this band. We stood right in front of J. and they basically proceeded to blow my head off. I've been fortunate enough to see a lot of great bands, but I can't think of any other show that had quite that effect on me.
Saw them last year in ABQ. I'm 28 years old. I also stood directly in front of J. Dude blew my ears off. I still don't think ive recovered since. 😅 easily the loudest band I've EVER heard.

You're doing gods work, son
thanks guys
Love you
Danke!
I wanna try some bass guitar just because of Lou.. I mean, how awesome is he?!
That solo on forget the swan melted my face!!!
Alternative rock at its finest
The outro for Forget the Swan is so good - feel it rippling with J's awesome solo and the fantastic bass driving right through along with the drums
Holy crap! Yes.
Man, i'd just KILL for a full length show with this sound and video quality.
seriously though, if you were jamming dinosaur jr back in 1990, who would have thought J mascis' hair would be completely white by 2005. damn, i wish i had that hair. it's bad ass.
goodluckwithallthat Yep when they reunited it tripped me out a bit
When they both sing in Forget the Swan, it sounds sorta like Bob Mould.
+lolttyl143 You're entirely right.
So true, especially with that chord progression. Very Bob Mould style.
No surprise! Dinosaur formed when NDR and Flip Your Wig came out and they were huge Husker fans as should everyomd be
When you look at this you get an extra confirmation how wrong all those talent shows on TV are. Brilliant performance.

I woke up at 11 am this day and was watching Dinosaur by noon (if I remember correctly).. what a good morning this was.
This is the first I've heard of Dinosaur Jr. Well I'd heard the name but not the band. This is great stuff.. Discovered a bunch of other cool stuff too thanks to the vids by this station. Cheers KEXP 😊
+CHRIS BICKNELL It's good you've discovered this band. Now you're can start really living. Dinosaur Jr. is one of my favorite bands growing up. And that's something because I'm a 40 something black guy from a small farm town. I still get goosebumps listening to their albums.
Me too first time listening to them I'm hooked!!!!
The sound(guitars, drums, vocals, recording) on this is freakin great
Holy shit Forget the Swans could have just kept going for ever!! ...and I would be totally ok with that.
I wish that solo just kept on going...
Haha murph probably wouldn't like that but idk..
Yeah I love Sebadoh too so love when Lou sings...
That solo. Gosh.
I've going back here for over a year
this video captures perfectly how it feels to play in a band. Love it so much.
The Wagon was perfect, I am glad they can play their songs they way they recorded them, sad but their are a lot of bands that can't even play their own songs, these guy's aren't one of those bands!
Music is an organic performance medium. If I want to listen to the way a song is recorded on the album why not listen to the album. I love to hear live albums for that reason. Particularly when I'm not lucky enough to see them perform in person, which is so often the case for many artists.
i agree that being said i like some bands just because they cant even play a song they recorded live people are lucky to even get to hear some of these songs live in the first place
great guitar , great bass sound. Love the sound of the rickenbacker :)
The sound is in Lou's technique. He's playing right on the neck. I can get the same sound from any bass.
+Tigga The Wigga not exactly man
+Tigga The Wigga it reminds me of chris squire (RIP) in Roundabout too.
The rickenbacker has a unique sound, not that Lou doesn't have his own too. He plays all over the guitar.
I love the vigor that LOU plays the bass with. Total shredder.
Unearthly glory
so is big gay heart tho
14:57 drummer to bassist communication
Damn. I really wish they would have played Sludgefeast. That's the Dinosaur song I really love. There's nothing else like it.
That was just perfect. long time fan and still just as amazed.
Thats as good as you can get, love it.
Murphs drumming
proper fookin music by the maestros, - quality, many thanks
Pretty freaking Awesome
The original line up and the best .
I can't even count how many times I've watched this
The late '80's -early '90's didn't suck,
music-wise.
...Here, I have proof.
+Johnny Deutschemark these guys put out good stuff in the early 80s. forget the swan is off the first album
No doubt
Of course the '80s didn't suck musically AS LONG AS YOU DIDN'T TURN ON THE RADIO OR WATCH MTV. They weren't playing this stuff like this on the radio in the '80s, trust me (unless it was college radio).
And it goes on, too! Here we are.
Someone get Murph a cold beer and a towel, Holy fucking shit he's putting in work.
my weed dealer looks like murph
+Maxfield Stephens my weed dealer is murph
I call the police
You know sometimes this joke works...
yo policeman this guys weed dealer looks like someone please arrest everybody
J looks like he's always high
3 very singular musicians (no one plays like any of them) and you put them together...I can't think of another band that shouldn't work this well and could even come close to what they can do
This girl once told me, “this music grows on you the more you listen to it.”
I said, that’s how you know it’s good.
J Mascis for Pope.
Legendary jam band.
Love the way how Lou is playing bass ...
We're all in our 40s, still rockin out. How could you not.
Freak Scene was one of the first 30 songs I learnt on bass. Still love playing it when I get the chance.
this is the type of band that makes me so fuckin glad they exist.. they're so essential in music
Look up Anthony Pappalardo - Mosiac, best use of "forget the swan"
Murph forever
damn good man
Dat bass tone on forget the swan....dayummmmm!
all the lou songs seem to have way more prominent bass. adds a cool dynamic to all their albums with him on
been a fan for 25 years. love all the old, plus all of J's solo work.
Great show! And the Swans shout out was epic
It’s interesting hearing what The Wagon sounds like with Lou’s bass (I.e. better than the album version).
Forget the Swan = Sick.
Lou Barlow can shred a "Rick" in a style like no one else alive. So damned amazing!
(I love RUSH--and Geddy Lee is a God Among Humankind--but it should be noted that Geddy and Lou have immensely different and uniquely individual chops that are inherent to their personal styles and musical universes. You can bet that Geddy knows who Lou is just as much as it is the other way around.)
This is my Neil Young & Crazy Horse !!!!
I LOVE THIS BAND SO MUCH
que bandasaaa locx
So lucky to see Dinosaur Jr at the Reading Festival 91. While we were waiting saw this unknown little band called Nirvana play.
Then during the Dinosaur Jr set there were Americans just behind us watching as well. Yep it was!
Forget The Swan - One of the greatest jams I've ever heard.
The sound and video quality is so great esp. for a full live performance on youtubbb, thank you for this
I could watch j solo for hours
Seems to be a lot of common DNA between the music of Dinosaur Jr. and the music of Sonic Youth... the rhythms, the textures. Just looked up "Thurston Moore" and "J Mascis" and was happy to find that they've jammed quite a bit, as several videos show.
The two bands go way back. "Teenage Riot" was inspired by J.
They go way back too it’s cool teen age riot was abt J Mascis and even now the music video for been there all the time has Thurston Moore and Coco Gordon Moore (Thurston and Kim’s daughter)
Read Kim Gordon's book for a funny J Mascis story
Try 20 years ago young man. So treble heavy and loud that it gave me a nose bleed and caused another concert goer to have a panic attack and flip out in the parking lot. Good times.
Seen Dinosaur Jr three times but never in Seattle.
Lou's such a hot shot bassist. I love it.
why can't the bass be this pronounced all the time? Sounds so amazing. I hate that in some of their albums its way in the background
It's the format of the power trio that allows it. Trust me you wouldn't want some bands to have the bass way turned up.
Look at muse, rage against the machine, nirvana, or RHCP. All have super pronounced bass. But it's because the bass is both the rhythm guitar and the bass.
@@edthri He's saying it's mixed too low on their albums
It's mixed pretty loud in their debut, and is fairly pronounced on Bug. I think once Lou left J. didn't care as much. J. Is a perfectionist, but the drums and guitar are his things. At least, that is how I understand what I have read and watched about him.
lately im so obsessed with this guys. i wanna be j mascis
Genius Cubed!!!
Thanks KEXP.
🦁✌
Still one of the best , and loudest, gigs I've been to, way back in 1988
I can not get enough.! BEST band EVER!
Beautiful performance!
Flawless. So amazing!
Great performance! Dinosaur Jr. one of my favorites bands!
Fantastic as ever, one of the best live/studio bands to come out of the states.
The don't have nearly enough Marshall stacks.
There's easily room on the stage for another.
I think another stack and a backup guitarist with 2 full stacks would be appropriate but hey, who am I to talk...
yeah, it's kinda kitsch when bands have them like that for show, but they look switched on i think
@@crabbtrixexp They are the loudest band I've ever seen live, so yeah, I guess they are switched on....
@@frmcf Fuck yes!
amazing!!... dinosaur jr. better than ever!!
If more people knew about them, world peace would actually be achievable.
Amazing live performance 🤘🏼
Thanx KEXP! Excellent show of the legendary band
Always! I listen FTS in Barcelona....Foooking great!
love these guys
que gran bandaaaaa por la rechuchaaaaaaaaaa
This is the most noise I have ever observed emanate from 3 people
Love this band since 1993 when I was living in Peru and I was 17 years old .
THEY ARE FUCKIN´ AWSOME REGARDS FROM MEXICO
What a set!! 3 guys just rockin' it!
Lou gets into my top 5 best rock bass players anytime!
Awesome! I can't wait to see them soon.
Dinosaur Jr is all about J, but true fans kinda love Lou more. hahahaha
