    I just crossed the 1500 round mark and have had zero issues with mine. No matter what manufacture magazine or ammo I have used, it has never failed to chamber and fire a round. The Extar EP9 is an insane gun for the money considering (for me) its reliablity. No, it wouldn't be my choice to storm a castle or somethign but for plinking and home defense, this thing is a crazy value.
    People can spend 5X the money for their B&T 9mm carbines and I will chuckle all the way to the bank.

    Riley, thanks for covering the Extar so much. Yours are the only videos that are talking about long-term usage.
    Some might complain and say "8,000 rounds isn't a high-count for a pistol", but I don't see those people buying the ammo and posting the videos.
    For many others, 8,000 rounds is more than they'll ever run through a gun.

    Just sent them my money for mine. Cannot wait to run my own test but your video as well as others convinced me of its value. One word I would caution you on. Over luring a fire arm can cause malfunctions and wear. Especially if you live in dusty environments. I was stationed in the desert of Arizona as a US Marine. And to much lube traps sand and dust even insects. Now if you live in wetter conditions more may be needed but to much can trap moisture as well. A nice thin coat keeps rust away and helps getting dust buggers in your mechanism.

    Your first videos about the EP9 were a major encouragement towards my getting my own. Once I got it, I had no malfunctions at all for about the first 900 rounds. But, finally following the recommendation on Extar's website to shoot Tulammo (steel case), I started to have some malfunctions, and the trigger action became clunky. So I got a new, steel trigger (Palmetto State Armory Enhanced Polished Trigger) -- and metal ambi safety to go with it -- and, though the first range session had just a few malfunctions, in my second session -- 200 rounds -- I had no malfunctions at all, and the trigger lost its clunkiness. So, no more steel cased ammo for me!

    • @RileyRR
      @RileyRR  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes steel case ammo can give almost any gun issues. Even super expensive guns

    Customer service is worthless at Extar. They won't honor the warranty. About 500 rounds through the gun and the firing pin binds in the bolt causing light strikes. It's useless now because I used reman ammo. Like anyone can afford new ammo for the range

    Love your videos on this gun. You’ve helped make up my mind to buy one. As far as failure goes, I only use brass anyway, but cheaper steel rounds are good for range type fire. I think it’s the best budget buy 9mm option for AR type platform out there. I own a Glock 26 & 36, Sig Sauer P365, Ruger LCP, Ruger 556 MPR, and a Mossberg Maverick 88. This will be a nice addition to a quasi budget (but sure fire dependency) collection which I’ll eventually leave to my daughters.

    the flat nose will actually jam into the lower and a hair to the right of the breech face.
    It does not do this every round but id did do it more the twice' BUT It shoots all round nose flawless and smoothly.
    I think the only draw back again' on my sample of one, it is very heavy maybe even a little sticky Charging it.

Everything was working fine until I opened it, removed the bolt to see through the barrel to zero my red dot, closed it without the bolt and when tried to open again, it just wouldn't. I tried to disengage it several times to no avail. Called Extar and they said to use a rod and push back the buffer to disengage it. Tried that and still can't remove the upper from the lower. No thanks? I own a CMMG Banshee. I know it cost a lot more. If I was going to buy a cheap 9mm AR platform pistol. I would go with a $640 Foxtrot Mike. At least you get all metal construction and just as good or better reliability. With all mil spec AR features. Not this $200 less plastic gun. That is limited on upgrades. No matter what you do you are stuck with a plastic picatinny rail and plastic frame. Foxtrot Mike all day and any day over this Mattel toy plastic gun

    • @kevinwilson9589
      @kevinwilson9589 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      More details, please. Did you witness the event? Was your friend using reloads? Was he shooting normally, or bump firing mag after mag? The biggest downside to this or the CZ scorpion platform is it looks like the barrel is either screwed or pressed directly into a polymer receiver. This seems to be fine for normal shooting, but if the intention is to do multiple mag dumps, I personally would opt for either an aluminum AR receiver or steel like the AKV or KUSA model.

    WHILE.. its a great gun - its ALSO (confirmed directly) NOT +P RATED - like "any" of PSA's "FREEDOM" line or Foxtrot MIke (FM-equivalent) Line. Personally - I dont have the $$$ or time to waste on a "kiddie" toy - I want a REAL WEAPON!! SO, I nixed the EXTAR for a REAL WEAPON! I went with a FM 9! INCREDIBLE WEAPONS!!

      You sound like a dweeb, any weapon that can go 8,000 rounds and counting without issues can most definitely cycle enough +p rounds to get you out of the shit, who the fuck runs +p target loads ? Nobody. My LCP isn’t +P rated it didn’t blow up in my hand and .380 is some of the most dangerous +p ammo to run, this weapon is most definitely not a “kiddy toy” and could run whatever you needed it to for that fucked up situation with a buffer tube and a 8 inch barrel it would be fine you’d have more of a reliability problem with under powered rounds then hot ones.

    100 yards may be considered long range for a 9mm, but overall, 100 yards is NOT long range.

      @RileyRR  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah for sure, that is what I was talking about in the video. It is all relative. 100 yards for my .308 bolt action is nothing. But for this little pistol it definitely isn't considered "close range"
