I’m not sure it will be legal to demand return to work for remote workers. I would see how their contract is written. I telework and understand it can always be changed. The thing is we don’t have space and already share offices. More space was just taken from us. There are other organizations like this that I know of on the installation I work on. My friend shares a cubicle with co-workers. They were just told they are now working in the office twice a week but they still meet on the computer. It’s weird bc they go in the office to work on the computer. They can’t even meet in person as a team bc they don’t have the space. Same with my team.
Let them work from home and we can sell the bldgs they would normally report to. It’s cheaper for the employees too. This way you can hire for less. There will be huge numbers of people unemployed if he manages to get rid of all these employees. What’s going to happen to the economy when large numbers of people don’t have jobs?
Work remotely is more efficient than working in office. This is very bad idea to force people to work in office to face heavy traffic again and more...
But from a bigger picture, a lot more money moves (good for the economy) when you’re forced to purchase gas to drive to work, purchase lunch on your lunchbreak , etc. Also keeps you dependent on your job which keeps you working. They don’t care about efficiency or WLB it’s all about money moving
In what world is it more efficient? Amazon is litterally making a killing on "mouse jigglers" that move your mouse to show people are active when they're not.
@@krisstrubel9786 It is more efficent for honest people who care about doing a good job. We need to look at peoples' integrity and their commitment to their work. A mouse jiggler shouldn't fool anoyone, though it does as you point out. Management needs to do a better job, IMO.
Scott's take on working remotely, from surveys, makes some sense. However, I'm a federal employee in an org which has went through massive reorganization over the last few years. So, take me as an example. I'm an analyst who supports a division that is spread across the country, along with my team, who lives and works in 3 states and a few cities within one state. Going into the office does nothing but forces me to commute while the bulk of my team is in other states. We function just fine with our virtual resources. This will not save money or increase teamwork, it will only encourage those near retirement to hit the button. It will once again cost employees money to now revamp our commutes, wear and tear to our cars again, hiring caregivers for our children and parents, etc. All the hassles and expenses that we haven't had to deal with for a few years, our pockets will surely suffer.
Its a rich man's advantage...boost real-estate and the millionaire's that own the buildings. The employees who have moved away from the office should be given other options. Having moving cost, price of housing is outrageous, daycare for some, transportation cost, and added stress.
Horseshit! If you can manage employees and the production is there then you know you're lying when you say it would be better if you drove in traffic here and ate pizza at our lame ass parties!
My hubby works remotely with I.T. the trade off is that he also has to travel to sites alot. He's also regimental about his working hours. I pretend that he's not here which allows him to work as if he was in the office. Gen X has a different work ethic than Gen Z.
I worked for a fortune 500 company that decided remote workers was a good idea and implemented it throughout the company. Two years later on the verge of bankruptcy they required everyone to come back in the office. Ten% of those remote workers quit and looked for other jobs. Sounds like a benefit for both the company and the remote workers. I just retired and left them to figure it out.
A Fortune 500 company isn’t going bankrupt in 2 years because of telework. It is proven fact that telework is more of a positive than being forced to come in to do the same work in person. So, you’re either lying for literally no reason at all or the company you supposedly worked for had way bigger problems than people working from the comfort of their homes.
If people don't NEED to be in an office to do their work then what's the point of forcing them to do so? Is it just because your work can't be done from home? I think reducing the bloat is definitely a good idea but what actually needs to happen is that management needs to have their feet held to the fire because they clearly aren't MANAGING their staff properly.
These two are already overreaching and being inconsiderate of the effects this could have upon people. Mostly, everyone I know who are supervisors and managers says productivity does not suffer and remote working simply works. As long as your work performance is not compromised, I could CARE less if you do your work from home, the moon, or the backseat of your car. Everyone isn't able to carry their son or children around on their neck all day, everywhere, including work, like Elon Musk is able to do. There are much better things they could focus on and correct to make the Federal government run more efficiently. Sending people back to the office to micromanage them isn't it.
You don’t get the point. This is proposal is to be make unwanted fed employees to quit on their own and find work in the private sector like the rest of us. The core fed employees ‘really’ required for the job will stay. It’s this or otherwise downright ‘firing’, like Musk suggested. This is basic logic; any private sector company running at a detrimental loss will slash its workforce. Fed employees are somehow exempt from this logic. You can do the absolute terrible at your job and you will still have the job. That is ridiculous
Not all roles require you to be in office. Not everyone is a clock punching machinist or a janitor. Some people have jobs that are even more productive from home. Many large companies are remote. AT&T, T-Mobile, the Gas company, Etc.. Plus.. A HUGE ISSUE IS PAY... Government workers earn MUCH less than the private sector. I mean ALOT.. so staying home and not paying gas is a big deal
I'm not sure about most fed employees but I work on a military base with about 13K other civilians and bases SUCK donkey balls. They shut down gates going in/out. There's limited parking, no updated office space. For instance our org teleworks because we share the space with 5 other groups during the week. There are no happy, fun benefits being on base, in the office. Also, not everyone lives 10 min away from work. Many of my co-workers live 35+ min away, saving tons of gas and wear n tear on their vehicles. And the most confusing statement is, if you don't like it then leave .... and go where exactly ?? Are there thousands of jobs out there all the sudden? NOPE. Congrats, you're going to have miserable soulless zombies at the office. I love ya Trump but dang lol
Yes, daycare is so expensive too but it also horrible for people who live in communities with hour plus long traffic times or limited parking in cities
When you remote work or telework, you should have care for your kids. At least that’s how it is for federal workers. We do a training about this. I have kids but they are older and can stay home without me. If they are out of school when I’m in the office, they stay home by themselves.
In my agency we cover 34 counties in central Texas we are considered field workers. Making us come to the office every day will surely cut production by far!! The truth is when teleworking I’m able to get twice the amount of work done! Elon and Vavek need to get off their Billionaire high horse and cut expenses where it actually matters.
Exactly. If companies or the government make folks go back to in-person, they have to pay for more office space, water, and electricity. I don't work at home but my boss can access my work anytime. The people commenting are just pissed they can't work remotely.
A single example of why Government is badly broken. In NYC at 1 Centre Street sits a beautiful historic building known as the NYC Municipal Building, at some time the name of one of the city's worst Mayors, David Dickens was added to it. Name changes as such are expensive, Real Estate is expensive and there sits a huge building barely inhabited and maintained. There are hundreds if not thousands of city offices all over the city paying rent to a landlord with tax dollars while a city-owned building is not being properly utilized. Does this make sense? This is just one stupid problem out of thousands nationwide, the waste, corruption, and actual theft are rampant in government bureaucracies. It's a deep-rooted cancer that is continually fed to fester, IT HAS TO STOP and BE CORRECTED!!

You accepted an office job before Covid. I think it is reasonable to expect you to return to that job now that Covid is over. If you choose not to return you should seek employment elsewhere. Problem solved!
This is one of the best ideas I've heard. Since COVID and the introduction of DEI there have been a lot of people given jobs that absolutely should not have one. They hired a bunch of welfare to work losers to fill positions and they don't do they work they are supposed to,but this needs to be done beyond government jobs and done in private industry
It can be looked at from the view point of remote workers don’t require separate buildings or facilities . The funds required to power and maintain buildings building are high. We could sell those bldgs and cut those high costs to lower taxes.
If they end tele work and remote work for federal employees they can expect a BIG BLUE wave next election. I voted for these people but they didn’t start with the radical nonsense until after Trump was elected. Telework increases productivity!!

Once we start looking at what is best for the poor hardworking taxpayers. We believe in government employees working their forty hours servicing the public. We would like to see less waste by everyone. Government workers should be just our military personnel. That must keep moving around for their career is just part of our government.
I guess it depends on the situation and the amount of time versus pay etc. There are a lot of working parents, since Covid, still work from and started homeschooling.

What about the environment and high gas prices? Remote work is better for everyone.
This is a bad idea. Out of touch with what the people want. My sister has 2 kids and works from home this would make her spend 800 a month on daycare. This is not efficiency
A lot of people moved. Mandating return to work will cause many to quit as they no longer live within commuting distance.
Well weren’t they stupid? You’re fired.
The people won’t have travel or child care expenses that are normally needed to support leaving home. You could stoke a deal where they could pay the employee the workers comp $$ instead of the insurance company and have them sign a release.
It's the opposite - keep them at home and you won't need a huge building to pay for!
Plus all the commute pollution.
They want the payments for the huge buildings, that’s the thing.
we need to sell the buildings we already have.

Oh hell NO remote is the way to go. The funny thing is, teleworking has been much more productive and efficient than return to the office. Less wasted time chitchatting with coworkers and micromanaging bosses hovering over your shoulder.
There will be huge numbers of people unemployed if he manages to get rid of all these employees. What’s going to happen to the economy when large numbers of people don’t have jobs?
It saves money. So of course a billionaire doesn't understand it
Work remotely is more efficient than working in office.
There are plenty of exceptional workers who take pride in their work.
Any halfway intelligent manager can figure out who is actually working and who isn't.

Funny how they talk about efficiency but working in the office is less efficient for most
I worked for a fortune 500 company that decided remote workers was a good idea and implemented it throughout the company. Two years later on the verge of bankruptcy they required everyone to come back in the office. Ten% of those remote workers quit and looked for other jobs. Sounds like a benefit for both the company and the remote workers. I just retired and left them to figure it out.
I can't wait to retire. I have 9 years to go!!
iow you got yours f everyone else lol
A Fortune 500 company isn’t going bankrupt in 2 years because of telework. It is proven fact that telework is more of a positive than being forced to come in to do the same work in person. So, you’re either lying for literally no reason at all or the company you supposedly worked for had way bigger problems than people working from the comfort of their homes.

Nothing radical. 80% needs to be cut.

So does this mean they're getting rid of subcontractors since most of the telework is done by them?
If Trump can work from Mar-A-Lago, why can't other Fed workers work from home?

So.... people like moving to a similar apartment that's double the rent.
The only situation I see that will be really hard for this is the families that's have children at home which means giving children to daycare again.

I call BS. It is all about control while the CEO is never there.
Remote work is for high producers who don't need babysitting. Government workers need to be closely monitored.
Working from home means workers fund their own space, furniture, equipment, utilities, it's a financial burden.
Exactly. If companies or the government make folks go back to in-person, they have to pay for more office space, water, and electricity. I don't work at home but my boss can access my work anytime. The people commenting are just pissed they can't work remotely.

Balanced by reduced transportation time and costs
