Be sure to check out the link in the description to my online Abstract Design Theory class coming up later this year. These classes don't detract from the free youtube content, but they do offer a fun chance to do a bunch of exercises and more targeted stuff with a group of other people. It's a good time.
@@GreenMagicMachine Nah, the community aspect is the reason these are valuable in my opinion. No worries if people miss them though, I plan to keep doing various classes every year as long as people are interested.
Great breakdown on Composition! Am definitely interested in your ideas on balancing all of the principals of design. If value is 90/10, how does that play into texture balance rhythm etc. If value is 1/3, 1/3, 1/3... how does that play into texture balance rhythm etc. (ignoring color for simplicity) How does one go about Harmonizing all the elements of design with each other? A single line almost begins the unfolding of the relationships. Its like a chess game. It can unfold an infinite number of ways, but the first few moves, really dictate how the game will feel. I imagine the first 5 major positional moves in a deliberate painting have the same effect, which suggests there are a lot of cascading requirements as the painting unfolds.
@@tosteson1 Personally, some of my top picks are Sinix, Sycra, Proko, Winged Canvas, Marc Brunet, Howard Whimhurst and Alan Becker, although the last two focus more on animation than illustration. These are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head though, there's plenty more people with valuable teachings out there.
Guys I also follow many artists , Synix is definitely among my fav. Marc Brunet, Proko, modern day James, etc. but if you guys still haven’t seen the 10 minutes to better painting series by Marco Bucci, you should👍
As a Graphic Designer, composition is one of the most important things in design that nobody is capable of explaining well except for you sinix, good job.
This video was so helpful! Thank You Sinix :) I've tried to study composition in the past, but it was always so confusing. I've always heard to not put a focal point in the middle of the picture and things like that, but I never could understand why. I never saw anyone so straightforward and simply explain really how composition works and why it's needed until this video. Thank You for all your videos, I just recently discovered them, and have over the past month become so much more confident in my art because of your channel :)
I appreciate the small free lesson on composition! When you're too broke for art school, these help a lot. Thank you so much for making these vids. It would be awesome to see more vids on technical aspects!
Great video! This is the kind of content desperately lacking on yt. Over and over it’s design 101, simple definitions of core concepts. Thank you for practical use, advanced theory.
undeniably the best (and simplest) guide for how to break the canvas aesthetically so that good compositions can emerge. i needed this video and i'm so happy to see new content from Sinix- it's always of great quality.
I clicked immediately when I saw you posted a new video. You never disappoint. Thank you for helping me so much in my art journey. Vid instantly goes to best art tips playlist.
I've always known composition exists, and I've always tried to understand it. knowing the rule of thirds exists was about the furthest I could get, though. But this video? This video just explained composition perfectly to me. Like, everything made sense on a level I never even knew it could! I expected to just be aware of how composition works and to have to actively plan it out before I start working. I'm autistic, so that kind of thing is nothing new. It's rare I get to subconsciously understand something like that. Except, after watching this video I feel like I can imagine ideas in my head, with the composition already put into place?? It's insane, and it's not the first time you've done this. There's something about the way you explain things in your videos that just connects with my brain in a way few other artists can manage. I want you to know I've shared this video to every single art-related server I'm in because everyone needs to see this
Right in this moment i was planning a entire arm tattoo design, and the arm composition wasnt vibeing. I took a brake and boom, this video talking about composition fits perfectly
Crop/increase the canvas or rotate content untill it works :D That was my method before, but i'll try to be more toughtful of this during thumbnailing. Ty
Love how you broke down composition into such a concise but nuanced lesson! I would love to hear your thoughts on layout/composition and the emotion of a illustration
I have never attended art school or any art class and lately I've been feeling my lack of knowledge of composition. Thank you for this video! I have always found your tutorials helpful and I'm very glad you are diving into this topic 🙏❤
I teach art and composition and this video is so concise and brilliant! Extremely well done and presented. ALL aspiring artists should watch and listen to this. Absolutely. Brilliant.
This video was so helpful! I've always heard about the rule of thirds and all the layout examples you also briefly showed in the video, but it never 'clicked' in my brain as to Why things work the way they do. I feel like i just unlocked an extra 10% of my art brain. Thank you for all your content!
It might be niche content but I always enjoy these very well summarized tutorials of yours. I love how you boil these topics down to the very essence, and I've learned a lot from you. Super thankful I stumbled across one of your videos many years ago. ❤️
I thought I was the only one who felt messed up when moving something to the horizontal edge but being ok on the vertical. It does strain you eyes more watching side-ways than up/down.. Glad I'm confirmed not a fish.
Ive never really heard an explanation about the rule of thirds and why it is a good composition. and i watched a lot of videos about composition. This is really good teaching.
I really appreciate this video. While I wouldn't say I particularly struggle with this aspect of my art, I do see a drastic difference between my art and ones that have really phenomenal composition. I've really been working to improve my compositions in drawing, and this video was particularly illuminating. Thank you for making this!
Great video! You always explain things really well. I'd love to see a follow up that touches on some other more specific compositional concepts like flow and framing
Beginner art videos are a dime a dozen, it's so lackluster to see a new video that goes over a concept I've already seen 1000 times and have intimate familiarity with. Sinix always has these gems with deeper, more theorical, practical, intermediate and advanced art concepts presented in masterful ways that other youtubers don't cover. These are my favorite videos.
I got one question what if the thing i want to be main focus is pale And main focus is always shown in darkest color.. And nope the backround is pale too
5:40 to answer your curiosity there is a theory that humans had a period of time when they lived similar to walruses - chilling on the beach and hunting fish with spears This explains our lack of fur and sweating (elephants and hippos have it similar because they stay in the water long not afraid of crocodiles), down facing noses to better dive and much more We only managed to stray from the beaches because the dog companions that were our ears and noses as humans focused on eye development so much cause you don't need to hear underwater and only smell required is to know if the food is too rotten to eat.

You should make a video about why your intro vignette is the best on TH-cam
Will they be made available afterwards through like pay-per-view kinda thing or patreon?

This guy has got to be one of the best online art teachers I've followed, and I follow a LOT of artists
Who are your favorites? I follow Slew, Jess Karp, Proko, James Gurney

OH MY GOD I WAS LITERALLY WONDERING IF YOU HAD ANY OTHER DESIGN THEORY VIDEOS AND IT WAS RIGHT THERE
It’s definitely neat with such a technical and analytical approach. I’d love more videos like this :)
Sinix is the best art teacher I've had. So grateful S!
"this is why the rule of thirds exists" hit me like some illegal knowledge that I should've not to have acess to
This video was so helpful! Thank You Sinix :) I've tried to study composition in the past, but it was always so confusing. you right about it being niche, I want to learn more art theory's (for free) and so I love finding content like this!
Thanks for this amazing video! It's very refreshing to make the distinction between layouts and compositions, I never thought about it this way.
By far your most amazing video Sinix. Thank you.
