    “Freedom vs order” is easy. What about freedom vs justice? Freedom vs equality? My freedom vs yours? Freedom vs survival of the biosphere? Those are harder. The problem with a lot of American heroic films is that they avoid the really hard questions while making it look like they’re not.

    Based off what you said, I think you missed the car computer telling Fury that there were no police in the area so that was a strike team in disguise

    Great reaction. This film is probably where the Marvel films really got good. Winter Soldier starts to do more than simply repeat comic book super hero action and starts to create more complex character based stories. And the end credit teasers begin to hint that the films are building to a larger narrative. But the main thing is that Captain America is a very well grounded, sympathetic hero. The audience is always on his side and ultimately he represents the best of humanity.

    Great reaction again. By the way, I'm like you when there is a series (TV or movie) that you just know certain characters won't get killed. However, it did make me laugh when at the end of your reaction video this came out:
    Michal Zisman: "Killing of certain characters and then bringing them back because they never really died. C'mon. You're killing me."
    Me: "Uhh you are like those characters. If they killed you, you wouldn't be back to watch another MCU movie. Yet ... "
    Haha, that's a good thing though, its great watching you watch these movies.

    Oh but what you don't know about freedom vs order is what's coming - this issue isn't over for the Avengers by a long shot. And now right in the middle of all this circling around Cap and Thor, you're about to see what magnitude of "now for something completely different" Marvel is capable of with Guardians. Major party movie btw, whatever you do for a good time flick, popcorn/drinks/etc, do it for Guardians 🎉❤

    Funny thing about the list he's writing down. In every country that list is related to what's important there instead. A nice touch

    The call for order imposed by authority requires the appeal to fear (and quite often hate as well). It's an impulse rooted in the very worst of human nature. Cap has always been my favorite, because his principles are not tied to any authority. They require actual effort, courage, and self-sacrifice to attain, rather than the sacrifice of one group to benefit another.

    You end up getting so attached to these characters and, after you get hooked, you just can't wait to see what happens in the next movie. I truly enjoy these films... Thanks m'am... :)

    I think this is one of the best MCU movies. It really show how badass cap is and that he is a good guy all the way. Some of his flaws is his ego, he is bad at following others and want to lead. He is bad at deceiving others and want to fight head on. He has limited mobility compared to Thor or Ironman.

    I like to imagine that Steve learned at an early age something said by the myth, the man, the legend...Benjamin Franklin: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." It's a nuanced statement very dependent on how "essential", "little", and "temporary" are interpreted, contextualized, and applied; but the overall sentiment is transcendent, especially on a societal level.

  • @Uatu-the-Watcher
    @Uatu-the-Watcher ปีที่แล้ว

    While Steve is flawed as all people, the serum brought him to the peak of human perfection. He was already a compassionate and courageous young man before the serum. The serum amplified that as well.
    Yeah, I know. It’s a comic book thing. But Cap is kinda written to be “perfect” and it’s pleasing that it’s a character detail subtly but effective portrayed. This is why it’s great to have Marvel produce their own characters.

    Freedom is the basis for how the US was established, and why the Constitution is so important. And also why there are a lot of bad people in the world (Loki-wannabes) who think it's their job to rule you and control you. You can survive without freedom but you can never thrive.

    Thanks for doing a movie Michal. I agree with you on not believing characters are dead. But I don't just mistrust Marvel in this regard. The first time they got me with this troupe was when they were telling me a story about a carpenter from your neck of the woods. Trust no one. 😎

    One of Steve Rogers' biggest flaws is his pure arrogance. He is utterly convinced that he knows best in every single situation, and if you disagree with him he adopts a patronizing "We'll agree to disagree", ignore whatever you said, then go do what he wanted to do in the first place instead of considering your side.
    You see this from the very beginning--his repeated attempts to become a soldier. He was sickly, and that's putting it mildly. He being a soldier would have been a danger to himself and everyone around him--as the movie itself showed with him failing the physical exercises. That's not someone you need to have in the middle of a firefight; you're going to worry about him more than the enemy, then both of you will get killed.
    He wanted to be a soldier, and nothing and no one was going to dissuade him from it. There were many good, honorable ways to help the war effort, but he didn't care. *All* he wanted was to go fight, and he was going to accept nothing less.
    He has that mentality throughout the rest of the franchise; he does what he wants, how he wants, because he's convinced he's right, and if you disagree he reads you the riot act before just going on doing what he was already doing.
    Tony owned his psychological flaws. He even worked on them, and grew as a person. Sam, in an offshoot series, discovers some of his own flaws and owns them and works on them, too. Natalie own and works on hers. Steve was an arrogant man-'splainer from day one, and he never became anything else.

    Though the sexual tension is there I'm glad they didn't make cap and widow a couple.
    Yes, Steve Rogers is a bit of a boy scout and too perfect but keep watching the movies to see how they handle that. Although he doesn't have many (if any) vices, he is alone due to his determination to fight the good fight. I think he doesn't want to date because he doesn't want to endanger whoever he's involved with and he truly believes Peggy was his soulmate.

    I find it interesting that by this point people seem to not understand that minor characters being introduced are likely to come up over and over again and we will learn more about them

  • @Thylonicus
    @Thylonicus ปีที่แล้ว

    It isn't "freedom versus order". It can't be. Freedom *must* be tempered by responsibility. "Absolute freedom" is a slippery slope that leads to endless retribution, greed, exploitation--issues that we're facing in the real world but would be wholly exacerbated without any limits. That's why we have laws. We trade *some* freedom for *some* security. We trade the freedom to kill whoever we want, we trade the freedom to seek blood feuds, in favor of an impartial justice system.
    Does it work? Sometimes. It isn't perfect, but most of that is no system of government is really suitable for a collection of people as large as any "first world" country. But we keep trying because true and limitless freedom is a danger, not a benefit. It risks society, rather than helping it.

    I want freedom but let's face it. I live in the US which sacrifices millions of people so that I can live a comfortable life so it'd be hypocritical if I didn't say forced order. My cushy life here wouldn't occur if there was true freedom. I rely on the misery of millions worldwide so that I can live the way I live

      Thor 2 is the best Thor movie. It's more serious and not made into dumb comedy. I like Thor 2.
      So many MCU movies try to be comedy over any other genre and although it may make you chuckle, it gets repetitive when it is all you do. That's why Winter Soldier is held high. It's a great action film with a story not focused on cheap laughs.

I liked the villain in Thor 2, one of the better villains in the MCU. I may be biased since i was a fan of the actor since seeing him in Doctor Who.... 😅 the biggest issue is the same you get with all other unknown villains: you know nothing of their origin, always comes off rushed, like a revolving door of nobodies.
