  • Fishing during level 3 lock down in Auckland harbor and surrounds for Shallow water Snapper using Small Soft baits fished ULTRA LIGHT are proving to have great effect in getting more hookups.
    Given the opportunity to fish around Auckland without any boat pressure is creating some excellent inshore fishing. Using the stealth of the kayak to fish the shallow areas using weedless rigged softbaits, softplastics by Zman fished ultra light on the Ocean Angler Tansui Rod proved a deadly combination.

    I caught a 62cm snap on one of those curly tails, very effective

      Oh yeah for sure. Curly tails are old skool but they continue to work.
      I’ve caught all sort on them in oz, I’m just going bream style on snapper for a bit of fun ;)

    I fish very light in the salt, generally 3kg rod 3kg braid 8ft light trout rod. So much more fun, more sensitive, still caught legal kings and eagle rays on it, 50cm snapper, but just makes fishing so much better

    Awesome video mate. As usual. And i see you catch good fish even during in winter. Here in Mu fishing is not that good in winter.. Fish are away. Have to wait for summer..

    • @AdriftFishing
      @AdriftFishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah really. Would have thought Mauritius would fire year round.
      Here gets slower in winter but there is always something to catch

    • @NzFishingMauritius
      @NzFishingMauritius 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Adrift Fishing here it’s much slower. No snapper/emperor biting even on kayak. Should go offshore and fish in very deep. Waiting for September/October. Hope it will get better

    • @AdriftFishing
      @AdriftFishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What about the trevs on the beaches are they seasonal too?
      Kings and snapper here go deeper normally but there is always some to be caught in close. And the trout fishing is great in winter too

    • @NzFishingMauritius
      @NzFishingMauritius 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adrift Fishing yes trevally can be caught from shore... this is the only species am targetting for the moment.

    • @AdriftFishing

      Trevs are good fun. I need to try get a few soon if I get the 2nt days lol

    nice catch mate. what box is that? is it zman safe? I found its hard to deal with direct sun and heat for zman.

    • @AdriftFishing
      @AdriftFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      never had any issues with zman and sun in this box. its by Ocean angler NZ. probably cause its tinted (not clear)
      on the boat with more room we just have a tackle bag with all the pouches, but on the yak its easier to have just one box

    Did you used to live in Australia and chase bream? It’s cool to see these techniques being used in NZ.
    Edit: you just confirmed this in your video. Good guess haha.

    • @AdriftFishing
      @AdriftFishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha! Yeah man. I did for ages. Back in the early 2000s I came back here a few years before softbaits started to hit the shelves and I was smashing the snaps. I do like crossing over oz techniques here, keeps it exciting and gives a bit of an edge too

    What boat is that mate?

    • @AdriftFishing
      @AdriftFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The kayak? It’s an aqua marina k2. Pretty robust for an inflatable and light too. Think I got it from burnsco. I think marinedeals do them too ;)

      @@AdriftFishing Looks good, been contemplating getting rid of the old conventional kayak and going for something more compact.

    • @AdriftFishing
      @AdriftFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@howzit5406 it’s good for inshore and lakes and plenty stable. Cheap too I think it was 300 or so from memory and is the size of a small/med suitcase folded, down side is it catches the wind more than conventional and no rod holders. So depends what you use it for. suits what I’ve been doing in to on calm days.

    What line weight are you using?

    • @AdriftFishing
      @AdriftFishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Currently pe1, ideally .6-.8
      I don’t currently have my light reels with me so that’s the closest I have. I would probably get another 3-6m range on the lighter lines give or take.
      But in the rough stuff pe1 allows for a bit of hurt on the fish when needed.
      Leader was 15lb

      @@AdriftFishing I fished 1kg and 2kg many years ago and learned about lures using mr twister grubs with curly tails back in the early 90's. Great fun alright

    • @AdriftFishing
      @AdriftFishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The old mr twisters. They have come a long way since then. But still very similar.
      I used to a bait kid until I got into the inshore fishing in oz. then converted real quick to the luring scene. There was so much to learn and experiment. And the learning curve is what keeps it interesting, which is why now I like to try different things to change it up.
      Next up will be snapper on trout diving lures ultra light. Just need weather and time at the same moment haha!

    • @AdriftFishing

      Most of the headlands on the peninsula and north fish well, even landbased. But goes to show even a simple kayak can open up a lot of water to you. Mine is inflatable and is okay for what I’m using it for, but I only bought it so I could fish lakes and fold it up in the car safe and then walk and fish a river so I have no logistic issues. Then along came covid and now it’s the only way I can get on the water while the boat parked up with an un washed trailer and motor lol!
