  • If you've never had success on softbaiting or want to give it a try for the first time, then this video is to help you achieve that.
    I focus on the very basics of softbaiting such as softbait and jighead selection, rigging the softbait, Rods, Reels, Braid & Leader. There is also underwater footage of the softbait kindly shared to me from Grant "Captain Espresso" Bittle from Catch Fishing.
    This tutorial was filmed as I was teaching Ray how to softbait for the first time on his ski, and it was great to see that Ray had success right away and finished with a 38cm Snapper.

    Thanks for sharing your great knowledge and tips. Nice to know that I'm not the only one who adopts the dragging technique most of the time!

      Thanks for watching, yeah dragging has always worked better for me, and a great way to teach beginners. If i find the right territory like a fishy looking reef then I'd use the cast forward method

    Fantastic content Dave, and such a great way to impart knowledge. I've found that this technique works really well for Snapper. Do you have subtle variations to this if targeting Trevally, for instance? Thinking pelagics in particular.

    • @FishoDavo
      @FishoDavo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your kind comments, I haven't learnt how to catch Trevally on softbait yet, but if you check out Glen Cox (GC Jetski Fishing) youtube channel, he succesfully targets trevally on softbait a lot

    How do you know when the softbait hits the bottom?
    BTW nice vid

    • @FishoDavo
      @FishoDavo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, few ways to know, for me usually the line stops going out and stays floating on the surface, and sometimes I can feel it bump along the bottom as I'm drifting along.

    • @gointokill7244
      @gointokill7244 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks you, I was struggling if my softbait was on the bottom or not. One more question Do you let line out till the line stays floating on the surface or flick the bail arm over once you've casted?

    • @FishoDavo
      @FishoDavo  ปีที่แล้ว

      @gointokill7244 mostly not flicking the bail arm over too soon, need to give it some time to sink, if you are casting ahead of the drift in fairly shallow water then you can flick the bail arm over sooner

    Whats the idea behind the green bead??

    • @FishoDavo
      @FishoDavo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To protect the rod tip from the clip

  • @joedennehy386
    @joedennehy386 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    If i may say so, casting ahead of the drift with lighter jigheads catches way bigger fish, the longer it takes to reach the bottom the better. Each to their own but 4 legal fish in 4 man hours fishing says a bit. Clips and beads dont help either. Your leader looks heavy, 15 lb fluorocarbon? Hope you dont mind the comments, good luck.

    • @FishoDavo
      @FishoDavo  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yup I agree with you, I do cast forward softbaiting too. This was more aimed at new comers to softbaiting
