I tried both and I prefer the series 10 because of the newer chip, the display is much clearer / readable, charges faster, and it feels much better on the wrist, smaller casing with same display size. And much lighter than the ultra 2.
Series 10 being clearer / more readable is false. The AWU2 is literally brighter with 3000 nits vs the 2000 in the series 10. Screen resolution is identical but AWU2 can go brighter.
@Itzwill2k1 brightness isn’t the only factor when it comes to readability, there’s also the difference with sapphire vs ion-x where sapphire reflects more light.

2:47 This is one of the biggest reasons I haven't switched to a Garmin yet, their software segmentation is extremely annoying and downright petty. The fact that all Apple watches are more or less identical when it comes to sports tracking is a massive win.
Yep. I'm in doubt of switching to garmin for over a year now. But my apple watch is so much more than a garmin. Maybe if you want that extra specialised features, a garmin can offer you that. But you can get apps on your apple watch (athlytic) that offer the same functionality, and you still have the awesome smart features.
The only reason to go to Garmin is either where you want the really long battery, or you need the offline mapping which Footpath or similar can't offer. I stay with Garmin as Garmin will change my workout zones automatically without me needing to change in workouts, Athletic and Footpath, and because I do long hikes and trail runs and feel a little safer. If it weren't for that, I would absolutely go with Apple Watch, especially seeing how expensive the Fenix 8 is.
I hate the price difference, but finally got the chance to compare the Ultra 2 and 10 side by side in person and the 10 is just not an option for me, sadly. I just don't like that shiny black case, would be a no brainer if they still had the matte finish. Time to order an Ultra 2.

Thank you for comparing these two watches. I have been considering doing an upgrade of my apple watch, this explained the differences very effectively.
Even though my Ultra can go two days on a charge, I still charge it daily but just not all the way to 100%. Generally I keep it in the 30-90% range as its better for the battery in the long run to not run it all the way down and charge it all the way to 100%. It also means I don't have to charge it as long since I am just topping it up instead of charging it from 10-100% so I can just slap it on charge when I get in the shower for like 20 mins and that's enough to get me through another day of usage.
same, I have a charging puck in the office and I leave my Ultra 1 there for about an hour every morning. 2 years has passed and my battery health is still at 99% even though I use it for workouts (5x a week) and sleep tracking (every night)
Apple has a battery optimization feature now... it won't charge to 100% until (after it learns) close to when you wake up. So it will only go to 100% when it thinks/learns it should.
So the reason I switched from android to apple, was cause apple watch was so much better for fitness and health tracking than anything on android. Hoping with the pixel watch 3 being better, that in a few years, the pixel watches will be at least as good as my apple watch 7.
I’ve been using my Apple Watch 6 with an android phone for the past few years. However, iOS 18 has leap frogged android 14 for integrated personalisation. And I’ve switched to an iPhone 16 pro (absolutely love it) and Apple Watch 10. (Though still keeping a Sony Xperia for the 3.5mm headphone socket and SD card slot and selling my Samsung s23 ultra).
Contrary to popular believe , apple actually deliver quality products. 2 years ago I bought a showmodel apple watch 7. And it’s still a quality watch. Far better than watches from other brands. And when you turn of always on display, the battery life isn’t too bad either.
I really love your in-dept comparisons and I always wait for them. I wish if you can make a comparison of Apple watch with other trackers, since the release of ios 11 has added lot many features to the AW.
Great video! How would you compare the ultra 2 vs. the garmin instinct 2 as far as size? I have the instinct 2 and really thinking about switching to the ultra 2, only thing stopping me is the size!
Battery life is the biggest deal breaker here. The only reason I went for the Ultra 2 over the 10. Also I found it in a sale which gave me like 200 dollars off, so it was worth it.
@@mrlessy Well I am Czech, so I dont know if you have the same shop in your country, but the online store was called iWant, they are authorized seller by Apple and when I saw this price reduction I immediately added it to my cart and bought it. Such a great value.
I had both on order and ultimately cancelled the Ultra and kept the Series 10. I’m glad I did but am surprised I need to charge everyday even with always on turned off. The battery life alone is worth the extra for the Ultra and my next watch will be an Ultra for sure. Maybe the Ultra 3 when it comes out in a couple years.
If you want to buy the series 10 buy the series 9 45 mm it is a bit cheaper and does not have any practical differences. If you are clumsy and want something more durable buy the ultra2 because of the titanium case.
Nice review: informative and enjoyable to listen to. I’ve gone from series 6 to series 10 and love it. The larger screen and slimmer body are great. I might use the speaker for listening to podcasts sometimes.
I’m a triathlete and used to be loyal to Garmin products. However, I wanted the versatility and everyday usability of the Apple Watches. Tried on the ultra and it was a bit uncomfortable, specifically doing calisthenics workouts when that sharp edge digs into your wrist. Went with the series 10 since it is 95% of the way there. But cheaper and more comfy. If you are worried about damaging these, then just get a silicone case for it.
I have the series 7 45mm version and I prefer a larger screen and a longer battery life, I don't do them activities like swimming , cycling, scuba diving.
I've seen the Series 10 Jet Black and honestly, it made me ALMOST switch from the Ultra 1. I have a 160mm wrist and I've always thought the 49mm screen on the Ultra looked out of my wrist size's proportion. The aspect ratio (lower height, wider width) on the Series 10 and its slimmer profile made it look like it sits more flush into my wrist. But in the end, the Ultra's battery life won over me. Just hoping the Ultra 3 will follow the new display aspect ratio, and probably slim down too.
I’d rather have them offer up a bigger model with a bigger battery… All the great sleep tracking isn’t of much use if you need to charge it, and if you want to charge instead during the day it’s so easy to forget about while doing other activities.
Love the comparison however I went little off script and went with the Ultra due to the huge discounts. It gave me all the ultra benefits titanium case at 100 more than a s10
Very detailed comparison 👍🏼 I did a very thorough comparison & cost comparison and I think it really boils down to battery life, functionality and look! I went with an Ultra 2, and tbh it looks, feels and performs amazingly. Especially upgrading from a series 6, lmao!!! The bands are amazing as well.
I really love the new satin black color on ultra 2. My question is: currently I am using a series 9 aluminium 45mm, mostly for health & fitness. I go to gym 5-6 days a week for weight training & cardio. I was considering an upgrade to ultra 2 given that it is a more advanced watch. So I was wondering whether ultra 2 feels heavy or not? I am a 83kg 186cm man so I don’t think it would be a noticeable weight increase on my wrist compared to my regular apple watch. However, I wanted to make sure before getting one.
Great video! Thanks! I wonder if the AW altimeter has improved since Series 7, and if Ultra 2’s dual frequency actually has any accuracy improvement on its greater range altimeter than Series 10?
Don’t know what I might be doing differently from everyone else but I replaced my Series 5 with a new 10 in 46 mm about 10 days ago and I’m getting over 2 days of battery life. These days include a walking workout and I use the AWD 100 percent of the time, I protect my new watch with a 11 dollar clear case from Mitzi that I purchased on Amazon, the case is unobtrusive and easily snaps on, protects the screen and watch sides. I imagine the Apple Watch Ultra would last me 4 days if I had it
I had the Ultra 2 before the black version was available, and I couldn't tell the difference between it and the Ultra 1. Now that the screen size is the same, the only real difference will probably be the battery life and the action button. However, it doesn't benefit me because I charge it every day anyway, and the action button is OK, but I would notice if it weren't available. If the Ultra had Ant+ and broadcasted heart rate without the need of downloading apps that would be enough for me.
Excellent review - I feel the main issue is weight. The Ultra 2 is just too heavy for day to day and sports. The 10 can be protected better with an Otterbox or other case protector. Adding this to the price, I just don't see the benefit in the Ultra 2 other than "Show offability". !!!
No one is mentioning and absolutely useless the speakers are on the S10 aluminium compared with the AW2, taking calls on it is rubbish unless your in a really quiet environment and notifications aren’t much better….. the AW2 absolutely slays the S10 in this department
I didn't watch the video so I don't know if this was mentioned or not but I bought a Series 10 and it was the exact same price as the Ultra 2. The main reasons why the Ultra is so expensive is the titanium case, sapphire glass, and cellular connection. It's not possible to order a Series 10 with sapphire glass but without the titanium case and cellular connection or I would have done so. It bugs me to have scratches all over my watch face.
Durability and battery life is what I like about ultra. No need to put the case or screen protector and no need to charge it every single day based on my use case of the watch. I loved wearing series 10 it felt better than ultra but battery life was a no go for me so I had return it.
Given the minuscule difference from the 15PM to 16PM this year I decided not to upgrade the phone. Now Apple also didn’t update the AW Ultra. Not sure if I should thank Apple for saving my money. Lol
The side-by-side clips in the studio really highlight (literally!) how annoying rounded-edge displays are. On the Series 10, there’s always some edge reflections no matter how you hold your wrist. I’d love a mash-up of the two where the bottom half (against the wrist) would be like the Series 10, and the top half would be like the Ultra (raised housing, flat sapphire screen). And, of course, it should be priced halfway between the two. Hey, a guy can dream!
I got the Ultra 2 black and sold my first edition Ultra. I looked into the 10 and technically you are not comparing apples to apples in the cost category. One of biggest reasons I have an Ultra is because I don’t have to worry about it no matter what I do. So if I was going to get the 10 would want the Titanium which cost more than Ultra.
It just fell off the back of the wagon and there's also been plenty of updates, so I basically have to retest everything from when I first had it. No company has any say in what I review and don't review, as well as what I say in my reviews.
I’m deeply rooted in the Garmin ecosystem and I am not going to switch over to AW…but I always enjoy your videos. However I have to admit that the Ultra in black looks pretty good…
5:03 i think when talking about battery life, you should also consider the degradation over time. I would be worried about the series 10 battery to make it through the day when the battery health is at 80%. It will also degrade faster than the ultra since you need a full battery cycle per day compared to half of a cycle on the ultra 2. i hope that garmin brings a Fenix with lte within the next year, otherwise i will consider buying an Apple watch.
You can get the battery replaced by Apple ($169 AUD here in Australia) and you get a new watch. This is what I did after about 4 years with my Series 4 and it’s still at 98% battery health.
@@roarbahamut9866 I guess you can tweak the settings to make it last a whole day. But I would consider the always on display, 2h of gps tracking with lte and music and sleep tracking as my use case. In this scenario the watch would have to last 24h with at least 10% margin at the end. I never heard that an apple watch lasts this long in a similar use case.
My Apple Watch SE is at 74 percent battery health and it still last me all day, off the charger at 6am back on at 10pm or later, and that’s with it counting my 20-25k steps a day
I think the Ultra looks great but I can't justify the price and it looks goofy on my smaller than average wrist. When I upgrade it'll be the Series 10.
Yeah and my gen 8 is also very rugged too for what I use it for, like cycling, swimming, hiking and especially doing dishes and cooking! Seriously the 10 is the best watch for every thing.
I’ve been using the se first then second gen for years and haven’t used it like I used to before I gained a little weight I just started using it for music player, texting and notifications but I’ve been wanting to get back into exercising again and I the ultra would be the motivation for that with the precision start/stop I’d love that, I hate having to charge every other day I know it’s like a routine but I can remember every other two days as well no problem I’d love it, I want a cellular Apple Watch and nobody mentions the keyboard in videos no idea why I hate swipe texting and am personally not a fan of talking into the speaker even tho it’s come in clutch a few times it’s just not my favorite thing to do I want a keyboard and now that it’s in black yea I’m sold I want the ultra
The ultra looked too goofy on my wrists and I feel it does for a lot of people, great watch but for me the thin-ness for dress shirts is a huge win on the S10. I have an S10 natural titanium with the link band and it looks fantastic.
@@austinslater4773 I feel with skinny wrists, as any other watch, the ultra protrudes way further out with no taper on the sides and for some people that might be the look they way but proportionally I think it’s a bit much.
I decided to order an Apple certified Apple Watch Ultra 1 on the Refurbished Apple Store rather than 3rd party marketplace since Apple includes the Warranty and AppleCare+ which I will get once I pick it up on Friday Oct 25th
Sorry not giving up my ultra 2 black for a smaller battery, curve display. Now I do notice that the Ultra 2 can push out the display more for a leading size display. 3nm chipsets are next, Samsung already did it. Thanks again
Hey there! I know this is not the right video to post this to, but was watching your above video, thought I would run it by you. I’m more of a casual athlete, but I like the looks and most of the data from the Garmin. Is an Epix Gen 2, not pro, in 2024 a bad idea? It’ll be 3 years old next year, but I can get an open box sapphire for $289. Just wish it didn’t come in only white, for band color reasons . Also, will probably try and pass it down the line in my family later, but I don’t know if they’ll like the white. Sorry so long, and I know that’s not what this video was about, but I really do appreciate you!
Don't forget that series 10 has the S10 chip compared to the Ultra, which has last year's S9 chip. Not sure how much improvement was made there. An odd decision by Apple.
Last time I had a square watch was one of those calculator watches in jr high. 😅 Seriously though I don't know why apple does not improve the battery. I could never go back from less than 30 days after having a Fenix.
I've tried out the Fenix 7, and while I would say the battery is great (not to the 29-day claim though, as I would only get max 9-10 days with always on display), I would happily sacrifice it for watchOS (ie. Garmin's super laggy UI, almost non-existent Garmin Pay in Asia).
Also if you do lots of work outside or get dirty and rough in general like blue collar jobs then I also would say the ultra or ultra 2 is the best when it comes to durability
The OS is one of the reasons. Apple Watches UI is extremely smooth, there’s almost no lag at all. The Apple Watches are true smart watches that have sports functions. Garmin makes genuine sports watches that dabble with being smart watches.
Because Garmin is a fitness tracker, it doesn’t do as much as smart watch, simpler chipsets require less battery usage. Don’t know why so many people don’t know the difference and make the same comment.
I’m coming from a S7. I’m a super petite female but went with the ultra 2 (black) because I want the battery life and I wanted cellular anyways, I never had it on my S7. For context, the s/m trail loop goes all the way around my wrist 😂. I work out a fair bit so I wanted that battery. One thing I can’t seem to get to work is gestures. Not sure why. I am in Canada so I still have the oxygen sensor.
9:19 Cuz that screen is just a square now. It was made wider, not taller. If you look close to your ultra a series 9 you’ll notice. Also they haven’t really updated the UI for that new screen. The Infograph watchface look horrible now on a series 10
For me the S10 Titanium in Slate was the choice. The Ultra2 was just bigger and clunkier and has an older processor. The S10 was sleeker, lighter, more comfortable and faster charging. Since I don’t scuba dive, the Ultra2 was inferior for my needs.
It’s the series 10 basic gloss and glass that stopped me getting it. The upgraded 10 just didn’t seem worth it being only $100 less then ultra 2… that all said I went the new black ultra 2
If the 10 came in matte black I’d buy one as it wouldn’t stand out, with a big chunky Ultra 2 in London you’re eventually going to attract the wrong type of attention and get robbed of more than just your watch.
Great content. Question: another TH-camr mentioned that he wanted to try sleep apnea on his apple watch10, but when he tried it, he asked him if he had sleep apnea, and he said yes, it wouldn't let him use it. There was another app he wanted to use. I can't remember which one, but it asked him if he was 22. He said no, and it wouldn't let him. I think you should mention these in a video, letting people know that there can be restrictions on use.

Apple has an new update . Just do a reset for the watch and do the new update it will last longer for sure
its apple. Zero chance they increase battery life)
Did the new update mentioned in your above comment improve the battery life of your series 10?
Thanks for the video the ultra 2 is the winner. But i would pick up the natural titanium.
If you want to buy the series 10 buy the series 9 45 mm it is a bit cheaper and does not have any practical differences. If you are clumsy and want something more durable buy the ultra2 because of the titanium case.
on the series 10 it's way easier to pause if you use your thumb to press both the buttons
will the series 10 show you your lattitude / longitude coordinates while out of cell range and allow for datum adjustment?
Very good video with a lot of info.
Thanks!
Thank you so much. Very useful and help me make my decision.
Nice review: informative and enjoyable to listen to.
I’ve gone from series 6 to series 10 and love it. The larger screen and slimmer body are great. I might use the speaker for listening to podcasts sometimes.
Thanks!
How good is the Bevel app that you have?
100%
Hated the bezels on the ultra 2 sold and got the 10
I love the Ultra 2 in black 🖤 It always gives a sporty look no matter the band imo. I kept my 8 ss for when I switch up my style. Best of both 🌎
I’d rather have them offer up a bigger model with a bigger battery… All the great sleep tracking isn’t of much use if you need to charge it, and if you want to charge instead during the day it’s so easy to forget about while doing other activities.
Aw 10 slate titanium as a dress down/office watch. Ultra 2 for gym days, weekends, and going out with friends. 🤷🏽♂️
What’s everyone’s thoughts on the size of the ultra on the wrist?
Not a problem and I weigh only 75 kg.
Great video! Thanks! I wonder if the AW altimeter has improved since Series 7, and if Ultra 2’s dual frequency actually has any accuracy improvement on its greater range altimeter than Series 10?
Ultra 2 looks like a power rangers comms gadget. I don’t need a tank for office job 😂 I went with s10 titanium
I imagine the Apple Watch Ultra would last me 4 days if I had it
I miss some things about the Apple Watch but love my garmin. Imagine the done a collaboration.
I want a watch to go surfing, kite surfing, skin diving, etc. is the Ultra or another Garmin Fenix.
What loop are you using on the S10?
No one is mentioning and absolutely useless the speakers are on the S10 aluminium compared with the AW2, taking calls on it is rubbish unless your in a really quiet environment and notifications aren’t much better….. the AW2 absolutely slays the S10 in this department
I have both and use the 10 titanium for work and ultra for everything else
I didn't watch the video so I don't know if this was mentioned or not but I bought a Series 10 and it was the exact same price as the Ultra 2. The main reasons why the Ultra is so expensive is the titanium case, sapphire glass, and cellular connection. It's not possible to order a Series 10 with sapphire glass but without the titanium case and cellular connection or I would have done so. It bugs me to have scratches all over my watch face.
Also the look on the ultra 2 🤤
Durability and battery life is what I like about ultra. No need to put the case or screen protector and no need to charge it every single day based on my use case of the watch. I loved wearing series 10 it felt better than ultra but battery life was a no go for me so I had return it.
Given the minuscule difference from the 15PM to 16PM this year I decided not to upgrade the phone. Now Apple also didn’t update the AW Ultra. Not sure if I should thank Apple for saving my money. Lol
Exactly
Just upgrade every 2-3+ years. You will actually feel like the new phone is crips new and worth the money lol
Nice video
Thanks!
Great video again, thx 👍
Thanks!
Are Garmin or Apple preventing you reviewing the Suunto Race S?
It just fell off the back of the wagon and there's also been plenty of updates, so I basically have to retest everything from when I first had it. No company has any say in what I review and don't review, as well as what I say in my reviews.
@@DesFit Thanks.
I’m deeply rooted in the Garmin ecosystem and I am not going to switch over to AW…but I always enjoy your videos. However I have to admit that the Ultra in black looks pretty good…
I am getting ultra 2 for $450 brand new and S10 is also same $ 450 for 46 mm confuse which should I get
Sure bro. Just chek Ultra prices they still the same even a years after release, bkz people want a normal a few days battery not a 16 hours
I hope they make the batteries easily replacable so we don’t need to worry about this and keep our watches a lot longer
You can get the battery replaced by Apple ($169 AUD here in Australia) and you get a new watch. This is what I did after about 4 years with my Series 4 and it’s still at 98% battery health.
Im using the S5 since launch daily and it has never not lasted a full day.
@@roarbahamut9866
I guess you can tweak the settings to make it last a whole day.
Sticking with the Ultra 2
Do you know any third party app that leverages Action Button functionality?
The ultra looked too goofy on my wrists and I feel it does for a lot of people, great watch but for me the thin-ness for dress shirts is a huge win on the S10. I have an S10 natural titanium with the link band and it looks fantastic.
Why would you say goofy? Most people disagree
@@austinslater4773U have to wear the series 10 to understand.
@@austinslater4773no, i sold my Ultra 2 for the Watch 10 in Jet Black. Best desicion for me.
@@austinslater4773 I feel with skinny wrists, as any other watch, the ultra protrudes way further out with no taper on the sides and for some people that might be the look they way but proportionally I think it’s a bit much.
Yes, I disagreed. I still prefer the Ultra series
I decided to order an Apple certified Apple Watch Ultra 1 on the Refurbished Apple Store rather than 3rd party marketplace since Apple includes the Warranty and AppleCare+ which I will get once I pick it up on Friday Oct 25th
The advertised vs real battery are vastly different, in testing the series 10 roughly matches the ultra1 and the ultra2 is 50% more.
Nice comparison video Des. I’ll be looking at the Apple Watch Ultra 2 black, this coming Black Friday.
You’ll regret it. I had the Apple Ultra 2 Black for a week and returned it. I almost never return anything but it was very inaccurate
LOL! I ended up getting both. The Ultra 2 when I have tactical stuff to do, and the Series 10 when I am doing regular stuff.
r u a nvy seel?
The Ultra 2 is nice, but I'd have to go with the Series 10.
Don't forget that series 10 has the S10 chip compared to the Ultra, which has last year's S9 chip. Not sure how much improvement was made there. An odd decision by Apple.
Does the Ultra 2 siren also sound for tornado warnings? (lol)
I buy a series 10 with an titanium watch case and safe big time
Last time I had a square watch was one of those calculator watches in jr high.
I’d buy an Apple Watch Ultra if the battery life wasn’t tragically worst in class 😂.
Why can’t Apple make a 7 day battery like Garmin lol.
Why cant you appreciate Dexter New Blood ending lol
The OS is one of the reasons. Apple Watches UI is extremely smooth, there’s almost no lag at all. The Apple Watches are true smart watches that have sports functions. Garmin makes genuine sports watches that dabble with being smart watches.
Because Garmin is a fitness tracker, it doesn’t do as much as smart watch, simpler chipsets require less battery usage. Don’t know why so many people don’t know the difference and make the same comment.
@@bachnguyen1749 that’s a fair point and also something I’ll miss compared to my Epix pro, no recovery metrics, or sport metrics like VO Max
@@superiortoall22 have you tried a Garmin epix pro with a amoled display? It does more than an Apple Watch for sport metrics anyways.
When, after some years the battery becomes weaker, you can still use the ultra 2, while the series 10 will it be empty in the afternoon.
For me the S10 Titanium in Slate was the choice. The Ultra2 was just bigger and clunkier and has an older processor. The S10 was sleeker, lighter, more comfortable and faster charging. Since I don’t scuba dive, the Ultra2 was inferior for my needs.
I rode 11:42 hours with my Apple Watch Ultra I and had 18% battery left
It’s the series 10 basic gloss and glass that stopped me getting it. The upgraded 10 just didn’t seem worth it being only $100 less then ultra 2… that all said I went the new black ultra 2
Ultra 2 all the way 👑
Great comparison Des!
Thanks Eric!
I am waiting for Garmin forerunner 975 release to retire my Apple Watch Ultra ( gen 1) 😅
The main reason to go for the ultra is the diving computer function …
How does it feel to jump rope with the ultra 2? I’m afraid it’s going to be slinging around all over the place.
Thanks. There are terms of use for many functions on a watch and it would make for a long video if I were to mention every requirement.
@DesFit is true. But they samsung don't ask questions like that for there ultra watch🤔
Battery time, build quality and the standard lte connectivity are the reasons to just go for the Ultra.
More battery at a cost... Every tech thicker and heavier has more battery
I have ultra 1 its more beautiful with hand
i can sleep with the series 10.. its so light i dont even feel it… also during workouts and playing sports is wayyyy better!!
also for series 10, get a tempered glass… itll save you!!
