Couldn't agree more! I upgraded from a Series 6 to the Ultra 2, and it's actually a perfect size for me. Love the larger display and the battery life is insane. Love that I can finally use the sleep tracking features without worrying about charging it like twice a day.
Picked up the ultra 2. I think this is quietly one of the most useful products apple makes, provides most of the critical functionality of your phone without the built in distractions of a modern cell phone.
Just wanted to share a story about the Ultra 2 watch I own. I fell, and I landed hard. I knocked a metal headphone stand that was quite heavy off my desktop, and I foolishly tried to grab it so it wouldn't potentially damage a floor tile. I grabbed across my desk and lost my balance. I cracked two ribs and knocked myself silly for a few moments. More importantly, though, my left ankle landed on that headphone stand and it put a two-inch gash in my ankle that nicked the femoral artery. I didn't realize an artery had been cut just yet. My Ultra 2 watch immediately responded to my fall by putting up the message it'd detected a fall and gave me the standard response options. I chose 'I fell, but I'm OK'. My wife heard the noise and commotion and came running. And started screaming. Puzzled, I looked at where she was pointing and saw this VERY large pool of blood on the floor where my left foot lay. The lower part of my trouser leg was soaked with blood. We went immediately to the bathroom to see the extent of the injury and to try to control the bleeding. We weren't very successful, as you might imagine with a cut to a major artery. While doing this, my watch started to ring with an incoming phone call - the Duval County Emergency Dispatch services. They explained they'd gotten a 911 call from my phone number; emergency responders were on the way, and the dispatcher wanted to know the nature of the emergency. She explained that the call had come from a non-human with no additional information, so she needed to communicate to the responders what they'd be dealing with. I explained to her the fall and the excessive bleeding, but I was still puzzled at how 911 had even been dialed in the first place. I'd responded to my watch that I was OK, so all I can think of is that it continued to monitor what vital signs it could and decided i was NOT OK, so it called 911. I was kind of pissed at first, but as I thought about it, I realized it was indeed fortunate my watch DID make that call. I was losing a lot of blood despite all our efforts to stem the flow. The emergency responders were floored a how much blood I'd lost and was still able to remain conscious. In the ER it took 3 stitches to the artery and 8 staples to close that two-inch wound. The doctor wanted to give me blood because I'd lost so much, but I refused that (call me foolish, but have heard just too many stories about picking up nasty surprises from blood transfusions), so an 8-hour observation period to ensure I was recovering OK. So, the message is this - the Apple watch (all the latest versions, but especially the Ultra 2) has a lot of intelligence built into it that can seriously help you and (in my case) even save one's stupid ass. I appreciated Craig's video on the watches. But even further, the Ultra 2 seems to have the intelligence needed to make that 911 call when it feels it's wearer needs help.
@@olympicthunder9054 Thanks for your feedback. And you're right. None of us really think that a piece of technology can have a real, positive impact that was unlooked for. I was stupid. I knew I was bleeding badly, but still gave in to my male impulse that "I got this". Well, I didn't "got this" and nearly bled out from that femoral artery cut. I really, truly believe that the watch helped get those emergency responders there in time to keep me out of real trouble, despite my own stupidity.

so for a person that tracks several metrics including sleeping + workouts on the week + running + overall features, maybe an ultra would be the best due to the battery life, no?
I'm rocking the Series 10 46mm in Jet Black. I did encounter some battery drain issues on the watch though, with the battery dropping about 15 - 25% an hour. But after I force restart my watch, the issue went away and the battery only drains 3% an hour which is how I think it should be. Did you experience a similar issue with yours Craig?

How bad do the batteries degrade over time? I'm not a huge fan of the bulkiness of the ultra, but it seems like that's the only way to get the bigger battery.
The batteries normally last a very long time, however I used my Apple Watch SE a lot whenever I was working outside at temperatures higher than the recommended operating temperature (95 degrees F) for several years, and that caused the battery to degrade a lot due to the extreme heat. The Ultra has a maximum operating temperature of 115 degrees F, so it’s also stronger in that regard. From what I’ve seen, wearing the watches outside of their recommended operating temperatures won’t damage the watches themselves, but it will affect the battery life over time.
I am looking at getting my first ever Apple watch I am trying to decide between the series 9 or the series 10 or the black ultra 2 I am 59 years old and not a real tech jockey lol what i want it for is day to day watch the health benefits and the sleep apnea is a bonus but will it be available on all 3 of these watches with an update ? and to use it on the golf course for distances and to keep track of my steps etc which do you think would suit me or be my best choice between these 3 watches ? thx a bunch awesome review by they way cheers from Vulcan Canada
If you can afford it go for Series 10 or Ultra 2 . this is for future proofing for software updates . Also the battery of series 9 is most probably over a year old already even if it is new. You know that the battery ages even if you do not use it. iWatch is a disposable watch as Apple does not offer battery replacement as far as I know. I started using iWatch from iWatch 5 for health tracking and fall detection ( Series 6 ), I am over 70 and am still using Series 6 watch ( Battery Health 82% ). My sister found out at least on two occasions whilst she was asleep that her heart rate was over 150 for several minutes ( later diagnosed as Supraventricular Tachycardia ). Two years ago I felt tired going up two flight of stairs which is unusual for me, I thought it was because I did not get enough sleep that night at first but when i looked at the health App on the watch my Basal Heart Rate whilst i was asleep was 68 ( usually 49 - 54 ) . I suspected something wrong and I tested positive for Covid. There are many other benefits having the iWatch ( for contactless payment , answering calls on the watch etc }
It is a tough decision. I have found that the ultra in titanium is my carefree watch. While today I banged my Series 10 and immediately checked for a scratch. it was fine, but the aluminum and finish isn't what the Ultra is. Thanks for watching.
@ thanks for your input. I broke down and got the 10 and I am loving it and I hit my watch on stuff to an amazing the 3 so doesn’t have a scratch! Thanks again and I will continue to watch your channel! Merry Christmas 🎄
That is a tough one. Apple could upgrade the ultra next year. Or, give it another year without any upgrade. I don't see it getting much thinner. Knowing the watch performance doesn't change much between generations, I would get the one you like most now. They are both great watches. If the budget supports it, do what you said and get the 10 now. Then see what next year brings for the ultra. But only if you really like the S10. Thanks for watching.
Despite having bigger arms & wrists than normal, I still feel like the ultra looks a little weird Not because of the width of the watch. It’s perfect. The thickness/height pops out too much away from your skin though. I kinda feel like I have a Ben 10 watch on haha Would be great if they had a watch that was as big (49mm) but thin like the normal series
Everyone is waffling on about which one to get when you all seem to be missing the point. Depending on your lifestyle you should get both, Ultra for sport and casual wear and Series 10,9,8 (whichever) for formal and smart wear. Also, the battery isn't a selling point because the both aren't good with battery life if you are an active person and you record your activities daily. None will last the day and let's not forget about sleep tracking. The watch that I am using on the day gets charged overnight while the other is worn for sleep tracking.
Since I've had lung and heart issues in the past, I continue to use my stainless Series 6... blood oxygen function is something I really like to have. Works great, no noticeable scratches or dings, only issue is an slight drop off in battery life (especially when I go cellular), but it makes it through the vast majority of most days (I charge it in the morning during my shower/grooming/dressing routine. I'm fine using Siri on other devices.
I started wearing the watch series 3 and have updated every other year. I just purchased a series 9 last night and will be wearing that until 2026. The deals on Amazon made me select the series 9 as it has almost all functions of the 10. In fact the S10 chip is the same as the S9 with a new stamp on it. My previous S7 has been handed down, it had 83% battery life left, still good for a 16-hour charge. The only major difference is the screen, and you can have diving support on the S10.
@@aelaan12 my understanding is that Watch 7-10 and Ultras do not have a functional blood oxygen sensor-which I consider important. Am I wrong? I still have enough battery.
@@nicolapetrovic8427 Apple Watches, apart from ultra watches, have not gotten any new useful watch faces, like the Modular faces. They just make a pretty looking clock face to promote their next watch. They recently made the Now Playing complication (widget) not as useful with WatchOS 11. It just says "Music and podcasts you play will appear here..." instead of actually listing the title of what you are listening to. Wtf were they thinking? The only reason I've held onto it for the past several months is because I use the Hevy app for workouts. But I'm gonna try doing the workout using my iPhone later today to see if it is a good experience. I've read some people prefer using the iOS app instead.
There is no comparison between the ultra and the series 10 through 3 Looked at the series 10. Not impressed it’s still rounded and looks easy to scratch. Last years ultra 2 is the best watch ever. Battery lasts for 3 days
I actually believe there are two new ultra colors this year: black and natural titanium. The old ultra 2 is dubbed “rugged titanium” can someone confirm? I think it is the same color maybe just a marketing difference.

The real question is when are smart watches going to actually work for people with tattoos? I’ve owned multiple Apple Watches and NONE of them work due to my two sleeves, I wear an Oura ring because all an Apple Watch is for me is a $1,000 watch that tells time
That is unfortunately quite a difficult problem to solve, it's the same with darker skinned persons, however it's even worse if you have tattoos as most of the sensors are based on internal reflection such as the pulse oximeter and heartbeat sensors, which are of course blocked by the ink in tattoos. Making it nearly impossible. And that it won't work is an unfortunate result of your choices.
This is something I’ve complained about since the first Apple Watch. I have to turn off wrist detection to keep it from locking due to my tattoo sleeve. It still does what I primarily use it for which is notifications, but I hate that I miss out on so much functionality because wrist detection is turned off. When will Apple fix this?
@@tattoopunk75 they honestly can't fix it unless new sensor technology is introduced to the market. It's an issue of physics the tattoo ink simply blocks the light pulses which are used to measure vitals.
Unfortunately given that the wrist sensors need to emit light through your skin and the tattoos literally makes that more difficult it’s unlikely to be any change to today
@@tattoopunk75it’s not an Apple specific thing. The sensors on all the smart and fitness watches need to emit light through your skin. The tattoos block the ability to do so.

If you can afford it go for Series 10 or Ultra 2 . this is for future proofing for software updates . Also the battery of series 9 is most probably over a year old already even if it is new. You know that the battery ages even if you do not use it. iWatch is a disposable watch as Apple does not offer battery replacement as far as I know.
I started using iWatch from iWatch 5 for health tracking and fall detection ( Series 6 ), I am over 70 and am still using Series 6 watch ( Battery Health 82% ). My sister found out at least on two occasions whilst she was asleep that her heart rate was over 150 for several minutes ( later diagnosed as Supraventricular Tachycardia ).
Two years ago I felt tired going up two flight of stairs which is unusual for me, I thought it was because I did not get enough sleep that night at first but when i looked at the health App on the watch my Basal Heart Rate whilst i was asleep was 68 ( usually 49 - 54 ) . I suspected something wrong and I tested positive for Covid.
There are many other benefits having the iWatch ( for contactless payment , answering calls on the watch etc }
thank you so much. i have the ultra 1 and my next one would be the series 10
I get 3 days out of my ultra and at the end of the third day I have about 12% left
I have the Series 3and really want the 10 but that Ultra.....love it more but $$$. I'm torn lol
@darrinnoreendavidson2998 very cool. Enjoy your series 10. It’s a great watch. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you.
Get the S10 and wait for the Ultra 3? Thinner ultra watch maybe?
That is a tough one. Apple could upgrade the ultra next year. Or, give it another year without any upgrade. I don't see it getting much thinner. Knowing the watch performance doesn't change much between generations, I would get the one you like most now. They are both great watches. If the budget supports it, do what you said and get the 10 now. Then see what next year brings for the ultra. But only if you really like the S10. Thanks for watching.
Leaning toward 46mm series x😮
It is a great watch. Hope you enjoy it.
Despite having bigger arms & wrists than normal, I still feel like the ultra looks a little weird
Not because of the width of the watch. It’s perfect.
The thickness/height pops out too much away from your skin though.
I kinda feel like I have a Ben 10 watch on haha
Would be great if they had a watch that was as big (49mm) but thin like the normal series
Ultra has an alarm feature thats the game changer for those who want it for medical support just in case they need it.
Don’t worry the ultra 3 going to be slimmer by 3% and call it the day.
Hope so. Hope they keep same thing for a long time so I won’t be tempt to upgrade.
I’ve actually been really disappointed with my experience with my first Apple Watch, which is the S9. I’m thinking about selling it.
whats disappointing ab it?
I still have series 7 and iP 15 pro, i m not going to chnage.
There is no comparison between the ultra and the series 10 through 3 Looked at the series 10. Not impressed it’s still rounded and looks easy to scratch. Last years ultra 2 is the best watch ever. Battery lasts for 3 days
it share 95% of the functions. only difference is u pay for double the battery and the build material. and also the ultra design just ugly af
I actually believe there are two new ultra colors this year: black and natural titanium. The old ultra 2 is dubbed “rugged titanium” can someone confirm? I think it is the same color maybe just a marketing difference.
Both ultra 1 and 2 are the same color
@@Aion08 On Amazon, they are selling this years bands as “black” and “natural titanium” and 2023/2022 bands as “rugged titanium”
Old uktra 2 is silver color
7:29 LMAOOOO
Glad you enjoyed that. Thank you for the comment and for watching.
Unless the screen have brighter larger faces and a battery last for 10 days then I will stick with the huawei fit3 👍
I‘d never buy an non updated version with just a new color, looking at you airpods max „2“
Hey Craig and I need a Apple Watch
No one is gonna ask about the new Apple Watch Ultra? Just a color upgrade???!!!???
🤯🤯🤯
I mean, what has the team Apple Watch Ultra been planning all these years??!! Cmon… just the color?!?!?! 🤦🏻♂️
OMG, i thought its Elon's youtube channel))
If they make the ultra 3 thinner. I’ll pass
Mas expensive for no reason
Ultra is a man’s watch. 10 looks too girly
Hey, so called man 😂
People are wearing Apple Watches since 2015, including Men too and since 2022 they all are started feeling girly, all of the sudden? Get a life poor kid!!
Wearing a big watch or driving a big truck won't make your penis any bigger.
Unfortunately zero innovation from Apple once again. Like many others, I’ll pass on Apple once again and invest my hard earned money into a more innovative company.
Black ultra 2 bezel scratches super easy and exposing the titanium underneath. Apple won’t cover it even with paying for the warranty. I’ve bought 2 and both scratched.
Damn low quality for 800 $ watch
Thanks for letting us know , i was thinking of buying the Black Ultra but now will buy the original colour/
@@bengoey the original titanium is better than the black
i wish the regular apple watches wouldnt have those flat screens. so sick of the rounded design. hope they change it in the future. wanna buy a new one 🫡
