    whoops, I forgot about april fool's day hehe
    We all know how it feels to lose. It's frustrating, discouraging, and can really hurt any player's confidence. Even so, these are the methods I use to make the process of holding Ls not quite as bad.

      @Primo Antonius "Cloud". As a Cloud main: Don't do it. You will regret it. He really isn't that good. Lower High Tier at best, which isn't bad, but some place him lower Mid-Tier, so uh, yeah, you won't win that much tourneys with him :) And Online, he loses to every single Projectile char, which is so annoying.

    • @fantasygaming8718
      @fantasygaming8718 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Primo Antonius That's not true at all. I don't know on what kind of skill level you play, but to have a chance in tournaments, you have to play Cloud on a high level. Only picking him up and playing without practice doesn't work. If you talk about Online, I have no idea, I don't play that anymore, because there are only Ness, Lucas und Link Players playing the game in Europe Online. I hardly see other chars and fighting those 3 is just annoying. And the lag is so fucking awful.
      Also, Mega Man is not in Clouds favour. Tbh, I think that Mega Man is a Pretty good Cloud counterpick. At my locals, I have 0 chance against the MM. In Sm4sh, yeah, you could pick up Cloud without problems and win a lot. I just love Cloud, so I'm just glad he isn't "lame" anymore.

    I really appreciate TH-cam showing me this at the top of my feed today. I had been doing great the last few days at Smash. I had been having fun and learning a lot even when losing. But today I just wasn't feeling well for some reason. I wasn't being able to read and punish my opponents and I was getting read like an open book. I got really salty after losing to a very defensive Lucina I usually win against. She was doing the exact same things over and over again, and while I saw many things coming a mile away, I failed miserably to punish them. As a result, I started getting tilted and playing worse. The match was even (mostly), but when I lost my last stock to an FSmash I actually saw coming, salt poured rapidly. I was really angry at myself and unconsciously yelled a couple times. Sad and unmotivated, I stopped playing and left. And when I reached my computer, I was welcome by this video. Thank you so much, BananaBoySSB! All your technical and mentality-related tutorials have helped me so much. Keep it up!

    In a world where it's very easy to compare ourselves to others, strangers or not, it's understandable to hate losses. It only hurts more online because people will do anything in their power to upset you, usually for the sake of a few montage views.
    Words hurt, even through a video game.

    This is really helpful for me. Im almost certain I have anger issues, but it seems to only come out when I play someone I don't see. (Examples being a CPU, online, etc.)
    At first, I feel mad at the person for causing me to lose, but then it gets worse, I start to get mad at MYSELF, and this state lasts too long. I don't know where it came from, but whenever I lose to something I was pretty confident to win, or maybe just lost in general, I feel like a pile of shit who is worthless. This had never lasted over a day, as I don't go to tournaments, but it lasts up to 30 minutes if I don't distract myself.
    (My Advice) Recently, I have been trying to calm myself when I'm angry, and a good strategy I have found is to think/talk to yourself or someone else about anything, ANYTHING else than the match. Of course, this doesn't work for anyone, but just talking about something that isn't smash for a sec, like plans later or something, really helps. Thanks for reading, and thanks for the video Banana Boy!

      I honestly relate a bit too much. I've been playing level 9 cpus and am going down the roster but whenever I use a level 3 to warm up and practice combos and other stuff I feel extremely fucking dumb. Like why would it choose to do 5 smash attacks in a row whenever I try to come close to pressure it. It's really frustrating to think the cpus will adapt as much as the level nines and do different options and actually play the game like a human.

    Your honesty. "I've been in situations where Smash was my only source of fulfillment, and it's definitely made me a lot less happy overall."
    Despite my anger issues (which I deal with elsewhere), I can have MUCH fun. I find I play MUCH better and handling losing MUCH better when I put the game in the 'right order'. Playing After I've done work, excercise, had good sleep, done some chores and maybe even another hobby is Always Fun and A Learning Time. Ive had this game for 5 days, tryn'a learn to play snek. I had such bad nerves last night online that my opponent switched to gannondorf from their main and tried to get KOs with wizard punch. Honestly, I appreciate you sharing these tips, I learned a lot of it from mindfulness courses etc.... despite losing the match to someone who switch to one of the most unviable characters in the game because they were so certain they would stomp me, I felt good about the match (I lost but got gannon down to their last stock) because I primed myself to expect to lose before I even started the match. Keep up with your stuff, im learning so much from your videos. This game feels like learning league of legends all over again (memorizing every single moveset).

  • @Pikachu825

    Honestly something that I've found helps a lot after a loss is, if you can handle it, to go up and talk to the person you lost to about the match. Ask them what they thought about the games, how you played, what they punished, etc., and maybe even play freindlies with them too. It always acts as a reminder that the person I lost to is human too, and that they're someone who is also incredibly passionate about the game and it becomes much easier to accept the idea of losing to them in your mind.

However, this also put a lot of pressure on my mind and I played bad. I went 0-3 and wanted to get mad out loud. Another good thing to do in order to deal with a loss is to talk to the person you lost to. Be it asking for advice, talking about the match, just having a casual conversation, or playing friendlies with them afterwards. They’re usually the only ones that know what you were doing wrong during matches. Talking to them not only helps you play better in the future, but also helps relieve any sort of tension from the match.

    Idk if this is coincidence but I just went to Lan King (April 1st) with my friends to compete in one of my first tournaments. And got a huge awakening, I felt horrible but I got better and turned to your videos. They helped me understand a lot of things I did wrong and how to improve way more. Especially since I didn’t really main anyone, but was overall good (but not great) with most characters.

    I usually don't get salty in any way besides when I lose any match because of several bad misinputs. That can happen with any match, but mostly when I play online because I misinput a lot there. I know that you shouldn't get salty because of a friendly or an online match, but my problem always is that I think that I could have played way better if I didn't misinput.

    I don't play smash but this video has been helpful to me regardless. I have this inner critic that thinks that I need to be perfect at everything immediately, except that that doesn't really work. It's good to hear from someone who plays a game somewhat professionally that they also lose and what they do, it's helpful.

    • @chazzilla8919
      @chazzilla8919 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem for me is I'm a perfectionist too. I don't have online and I haven't seen my friends in person in a while, so I play against CPUs, level 7 mostly yet I won my first level 8 match yesterday. I used to clap their cheeks, so I fell to overconfidence and got MY cheeks clapped. So, I got angry that I wasn't being perfect and that I was losing a lot of games, close ones albeit. I'm doing better now, but I still can improve. I wish you the best dude!

The “almost won” losses are the most debilitating, and its even worse if it happens multiple times over a single play session

    I think one thing we forgot to mention is to not let people who are better than you affect your mentality if they tell you that you suck at the game.
    Also, put the word “yet” after every sentence if you are striving to get better.

    “I am not a winner at a local, yet.”
    “I am not proficient in Smash, yet.”

    I remember my first salty loss. To this day, I'm still a little pissed about it; but now it propels me to move forward and be better.
    I played Little Mac(Yeah, please save your "F"s) in S4 and first month of Ultimate. I was at a Smash 4 tournament and I was getting my best results(Losers 4th round. Little Mac has always been my burden, but I loved the guy. My next match was against THE best Mario main in Madrid. Smart, aggressive, fast, and technical.
    I lasted *20* seconds on the first match.
    After that I switched to Lucina, and lasted less than 10 seconds more than Mac. I got so frustrated that I went to freeplays, but that Mario player played me again and didn't take me seriously anymore. I hate it when someone does that, and I feel it at a personal level.
    I keep training. Hoping that one day I can play them again and beat them.

    I'm considering quitting competitive Smash altogether because of how much the stress and pressure of the end result of the match fucks with my head. For me it's getting to the point where it's taking away the fun of Smash and my love for the game. It's really hard on my ego. I consider myself a humble person, and in the process of building confidence, but something about losing at this game is so painful that I'm starting to feel like it's not even worth the competition.

    I am relatively new to smash, and I get absolutely infuriated sometimes. I feel like most of the time, that is because the game is made to purposely have clumsy controls. Like I find it extremely difficult to imput smash and tilt attacks correctly, as the deadzone for the controllers is absolutely huge, so I can be tilting the stick 50% to the right, yet somehow it registers neutral and jabs instead of doing ftilt. I use a smash stick and low sens to make tilts easier, yet at least 30% of my tilts register as smashes instead. I also find it _really_ difficult to walk, turn around and do back attacks/grabs. Again, that's probably because the deadzone is so huge that a lot of the time when I tilt a direction, it registers neutral and doesn't turn the character around. I really wish that the deadzone of the sticks was much smaller, that way tilt attacks wouldn't register as smash attacks all the time, and turning around to face a desired direction wouldn't be so hard.
    I am okay losing to a decent opponent, but it is so infuriating that the game constantly doesn't register my inputs, or registers them incorrectly. It feels completely out of my control, and it feels like the game just decided to screw me over, and I get super salty.
