Thanks for the video! Did this on my 1990 Corolla and it did not look too dirty, but it made a huge difference! Driving better than when I bought the car (132,000 miles now, I bought it 9 yrs ago at 88,900 miles- only major repair so far is timing belt replacement!) Here's to another 100,000 miles!

I'm a woman. I know very little about fixing cars but you explained this in excellent detail even down to the size of sockets to use. I think I am going to give it a go since Mechanic shops keep scamming me by telling me it's a bigger problem without first ruling out the smaller problems. They go straight for the jugular which has cost me thousands of dollars for my little 94 Corolla.
The issues, my corolla has been experiencing are:
    1. high rpms without acceleration.
    2. Dead battery (replaced 2X in a year with brand new battery)
    3. Alternator has been replaced same time as the battery 2X with brand new alternators
    4. Turning on the AC seems to make the car want to stall.
    5. O/D light keeps flashing.
I think I may have a grounding issue which Mechanics immediately dismiss and don't even bother to check or it may be a dirty throttle body and throttle body sensor. I think maybe these two things could be the cause of the parasitic draw.
I will try cleaning the throttle body and will report back in case anyone else is having these issues.

      Hello Lady. And Great comments.
      Here are my advices:
      Do the following things:
      1) Buy a used Throttle valve in good condition for the intake manifold. E.g. ebay.com Ask for a warranty on the part. This fixes the high idle. Check also gas pedal cable movement, could be stuck.
      2) If the battery drains quickly, buy a good 12v battery charger. Maintenance charger. Keep it on weekly. That way the battery won't run out.
And let me know when you've done these things. Good Luck Lady! 😃👍

dude your videos are very informative and helpful! I was able to change out my IAC valve on my 97 prizm (toyota 4a-fe motor) thanks to this vid. I had additional hoses on top of the throttle body that have to be takin off but other than that it was 1:1 for what i needed to do to my car. For anyone with troubles with the car not being able idle without it revving up and down, scoop yourself a new IAC Valve and that should fix it, it fixed mine!!

Hello Peter, I have some questions for you.
What is the purpose of the lower (thinner one) cable at the throttle body? Also, does this deposits of black are result of infrequent air filter replacements or it is just from many years of exploitation?
You, at some moment in video, mention about "air console temperature sensor". Is this same for MAF sensor or it is located at some other location?
    Thank you

the 3 tubes on the IAC... 2 are for water coolant and the CENTER one is for air out to the crankcase..... so if you squirt cleaner through the center one, the debris and cleaner goes into the crankcase.... do NOT do that. Catch it in a cup below the center tube of the IAC.oun

Peter....as always, thanks for another excellent Toyota repair video! I especially like watching your videos because you obviously like Toyotas and think they are quality cars (which I agree with). Got a quick question....95 Avalon XL...cleaned the throttle body without removing from the manifold. Is that ok? I saw a video from someone who was saying that this wasn't a good idea because the spray cleaner would travel through the idle air control valve and then down the water bypass hose on the throttle body and into the crankcase. Is this true?

51 - Switch signal -A/C switch ON during diagnosis Wiring, A/C switch, A/C amplifier, ECM
51 - Switch signal -closed throttle position (CTP) switch OFF during diagnosis Wiring, CTP switch, ECM
51 - Switch signal -park/neutra! position (PNP) switch not in P or N during diagnosis Wiring, PNP switch, ECM
My car has this acceleration issue for a month now, it cannot go uphill.
I did these things trying to solve my acceleration issue, still not succeeded
    -changed fuel filter
    -cleaned maf sensor
-air filter is in good condition
    -cleaned throttle body
    -clean air intake tube
    -cleaned throttle position sensor
-changed my ATF (drain and refill method)
    -changed AT filter
-cleaned AT oil pan and magnets
    -changed spark plugs
-adjusted the accelerator cable according to the manual
When I really push the throttle pulley to really close the valve , the obd1 reading is normal.
Interpretation on the result of 51 and any suggestions?

i have a 95 corolla. I had no issue with it till once its ignition coil went bad . I took it to mechanic shop, they fixed that but since then my car has hesitation while speeding. I have replaced so many things on it like plugs, wires, distributor cap, oxygen sensor and fuel filter but it still stalls/ hesitates while accelerating. I don't know if its a engine wiring issue or throttle body or something else. but I have been driving the car with this issue for now 11 years and frustrated as to what the actual problem is. I don't want to take it to dealership since they charge so much just for a diagnose. any body know what the issue could be.

thanks, one more thing to add. I have noticed when its cold weather it does it a lot more than normal. In summer it still does it but you can feel it running a little better. so temperature is also a factor in its performance. would that be something else that I need to look into?

Come on man....you should have disconnected ALL sensor connections , and vacuum lines, then throttle cables BEFORE loosening throttle body...completely backwards on his approach...follow this dude at your own risk...
