My First Impressions of MAURITANIA 🇲🇷 Arriving in Nouakchott

- I've arrived in Mauritania! Over the next week, I am participating in a group trip whereby we will be traversing the depths of the Sahara Desert in a convoy of 4x4s. In this first episode, I arrive into the capital city of Nouakchott. We visit a camel market and the Nouakchott fish market, go shopping for provisions and then begin our journey eastward into the desert.

@@BackpackingBananas I agree. In my experience group trips to places like this can be a lot of fun and, as you noted, safer. For expats usually you can find other travelers on Meetup who want to take trips like this. Always bring immodium or something like it because eating lots of unfamiliar food can be suddenly uncomfortable. People should also be prepared that restrooms are not always what you're used to. Finally, learn something about the culture before you go so you don't offend people unnecessarily. Most of the time the locals who deal with tourists are used to foreigners being a bit culturally askew.
