Sahara, the Secrets of Mauritania

  • In the far west of the Sahara lies Mauritania. Ten years ago, this country was a busy crossing for migrants from West Africa to the Canary Islands, but since the Spanish coast guard have taken up patrols, no one has gotten through.
Mauritania is one of those countries that has managed to escape the attention of the world press. A country of sand where the first cities were not built until the 1960s, but urbanisation has brought many desert customs to the city. Notorious is the habit of force-feeding young girls with camel milk and breadcrumbs dipped in olive oil, a banned custom intended to make them more attractive on the marriage market.
It turns out that there is much more happening in Mauritania that they would rather hide.
Directors: David Kleijwegt & Erik van Empel

This documentary has nothing to do with journalism or professional journalistic work, and its author reminds me of Western orientalists when they distort the image of people around the world in their works. Dear Sir, Mauritania is 100% Islamic and there is no other religious minority in it, which is why it is called the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. There is no slavery. In Mauritania, the matter is no more than the fact that some politicians like to obtain the sympathy and aid of Western countries. You must apologize to the Mauritanian people for this insult and for this farce through which you tried to distort the image of Mauritania and its people.

Easily, head and shoulders above everything, the best comment and analysis of this video. To describe Mauritania as "Islamic police state" is hyperbolic and inflammatory. To focus cheaply on the fetish subjects of gavage, slavery, and terrorism is naive, childish, poor reporting not intelligent professional journalism. Actually it brings shame upon the nation of the author; The Netherlands. I find Dutch people normally far more understanding, compassionate and intelligent. This reporter is a terrorist. Terrorising any potential visitor. An assassin of the truth. The real Mauritania is not in this video.

None of it is true. The only truth is that the black community in Mauritania is poor and that is the remains and consequence of slavery. And there is a government program with an annual budget of $200M a year created to help solve this problem. Other than that the whole 1.5 hour documentary is total B.S

I think the problem of fattening especially with condensed milk besides other problems associated with obesity will lead to diabetes (type II) because the structural cells of the human body become saturated with sugar and become unable to cope with more sugar and the free flowing sugar in the blood stream is rejected by all body cells and the sugar then has absolutely nowhere to go leading to diabetes requiring costly medicative drugs most notably Metformin which is prohibitively costly. I ask: What husband is worth your health?
