As someone who doesn’t have experience but wants to get into visual merchandising which jobs would you recommend to build up to and gain skills necessary for this position? I want to start somewhere in retail, do you have any recommendations? Also thank you for this video ❤️

For me, I got a job in retail as a sale associate and worked my way up over the years. Even though I was at the bottom in the beginning, I always offered to assist with product launches, floor sets, change mannequins, etc. I would be vocal with your manager about your desire to become a merchandiser and help out with any merchandising practices that you can. I did have to move around to different companies in order to become a merchandiser, so don't let one employer stop you if they don't see your potential :) Hope that helps!

Hi, I was wondering if the Fashion Industry Essentials course really goes in depth into visual merchandising, and is it really worth it overall for someone with no prior experience in the fashion/retail industry? I've been considering the class for a while. All the online reviews are positive but I've had a really hard time reaching anyone from the school to ask questions so I'm torn :(

Hello! Unfortunately, no.This course does not go into detail about visual merchandising. However, if you have no prior experience in the fashion industry, I would highly recommend this course. I think the two best things you can bring to the table for this type of position is either experience or education, or both. At the end of this course, you'll receive a certificate of completion which I included with my resume, and I think also impressed my employers when I explained everything I learned. I sincerely enjoyed the course-it's super easy to do all on your own time and I think no matter what you'll be able to take something valuable away from the program :) sorry for the SUPER long answer lol but I hope that helped!!

Hi, while applying for a VM job, is it an advantage to attach a portfolio even if it's not asked for? Also, can the portfolio be a pdf file?

Arsha AP if you have a portfolio available, I would include it. It never hurts to go that extra mile! I would say a pdf would be fine for an online application or interview. If there’s someway you can view the pdf in person then I wouldn’t see why not.
