    Great explanation. In addition to it, one should try to ask the interviewer to specify the “in a single day” part in terms of a weekend day or a weekday. This could impact the guesstimate immensely hence must be inculcated in general practice.

    Hi Shubham, I have certain questions : -
    1. You talked about fixing the numbers as soon as possible like population of Delhi, urban rural divide in Delhi. etc. Do you have a list of such important areas for which we should look up the numbers?
    2. You said that we can ask for the feedback of the interviewer while laying down our approach. Wouldn't it have a kind of wrong indication? Of course we can clarify what we want to but do you think taking feedback during the process is right indeed?
    - Thank You for the video :)

      Hi Anirudh, I am a Business Analyst and I think my experience may help you.
      Actually, Guesstimates and similar exercises are performed in an Interview to know about how well you are at requirements gathering, because you'd be conducting a lot of these sessions with clients in real world.
      Its really important that clients' requirements match with your understanding of problem, so that you start solving it.
      That is why it is really important to clarify that you both are on the same page.

    In an interview I was asked to estimate the number of tourists arriving India everyday.
    Can anyone come up with a solution for the question?
    P.S. - I went blank and best I could come up with was applying the t-test from statistics.

    • @shubhamkaushik9589
      @shubhamkaushik9589  2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Hey Rahul, that's an interesting question. Since it is about tourists arriving in India, we can basically take the number of flights coming into India everyday as the primary approach, figure out total number of people from there, and make a solid case for what % of those people are coming for tourism purposes as opposed to business or some other reason.
      Do let me know if you find a better approach!

    • @supritnalegave.1519
      @supritnalegave.1519 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shubhamkaushik9589 yes, we can approch by knowing that how many tourist come to Kashmir which is the most visited place by foreigners. So by getting that number we can guess in other parts tooo basis of its popularity and connectivity.

    • @abhikmahato
      @abhikmahato ปีที่แล้ว +2

      1. Try to arrive at the no. of Intl. airports in India, & segregate them by traffic, 'Busy'ness, and load.
      2. Divide incoming passengers into 3 categories; Indians, Foreigners (Official work), & Foreigners (Tourism). (not counting Indian tourists visiting India from abroad.)
      3. Also curate Numbers of countries from where we receive tourists not necessarily by flights, e.g. Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
      think this should be an okay start.

      yaa and I think even in the school estimation we can clarify whether are we talking about pvt. or govt. schools or both?? do you think it's appropriate to ask??

    • @user-ml7ib1mf3e
      @user-ml7ib1mf3e 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@famoushae Shouldn't in that case we must then think about nursery, kindergarten, then grade 1 to grade 12.
      I basically used age group with this. I just considered age groups 4-18 going to school. And then started with my class size and extrapolated it to number of sections in each class. And then multiplying to 12. I also took 15-20 students for each section of nursery, lower kindergarten and upper kindergarten and multiplying it by 4 since I had 4 sections in my school for them.
