- We all saw what Connor McDavid did in game 4. He broke the all time NHL Playoff Assist record in a 4 point night as he and the Oilers put a beat down on Florida 8-1. After that game, McDavid said they needed to "Drag em back to Alberta". Well, that was gonna take another Herculean effort but by God, that’s exactly what we got. This was, about as good as it gets when it comes to Playoff hockey. Tensions at all time highs, momentum swings both ways, big stops on both sides of the ice from Skinner and Bobrovsky, bodies flying everywhere, absolutely sickening stuff from McDavid and just jaw dropping action right to the very end as Tkachuk made an incredible diving effort to save a goal. You add records being broken by McDavid and Bouchard (all time assists by d man) and we had ourselves a game! A game that honestly left me questioning what in the world we are witnessing right now. I cover it all and more in todays NHL hockey video!

What we are witnessing is called "hockey history". Old-timers like myself who have been following the Oilers since I used to go watch them play in Edmonton during the WHL days --- before they signed Gretzky and became an NHL Stanley Cup dynasty---- have seen this story before. But a whole new generation of younger Oiler fans and NHL fans in general, have not. This is just the first chapter. We are on the verge of Oilers and Connor McDavid actually winning the Cup, and it's a fantastic thing to see.
Whoa there, LOL, Oilers are down 3-2, IF they come back, then yes, it will be a historic comeback, but they have to get to game 7 to have a chance. I'm not a FLA guy, just stating the obvious.

I agree. No momentum up to this point. On the other hand, McD is feeling it. That smile, that confidence... I wouldn't want to bet against him at this point. Reminds me of Lemieux. Or, dare we say, Bobby Orr. Unless Bobrovsky can play at the level he did in game 1, I wouldn't want to bet against the Oilers.

I'm from Edmonton and I support the Oilers. After the first three losses, I was so depressed. I expected to lose game 4, as well. Now with these last two wins I'm happy no matter what happens. It would be soooo exciting if they could come back and win the Stanley Cup, but even if they don't, I'm happy with what they've done.
Holy shittt, I'd be fine with either of these teams winning since I don't have a dog in this fight. There's reasons I'd enjoy seeing both teams lift the cup, but man it would be soooo satisfying to see Mcdavid win it all. He's so obviously the best player in the world and has been, he's a next level generational talent and the ONLY thing he hasn't done yet is win a cup.

I've seen about 60 games in Sunrise (mostly against my Red Wings or my fiance's Bruins). Florida suffers from probably the worst fairweather fans in the league. They have some great die hard fans, but they just don't have the culture most teams have. Which is sad because they have had such a great team the last few years.

I don't think there is an either way in the Oil Drum, way too much energy behind the Oilers there. Florida's fans will be devastated for game 7 and it'll be crickets and scalped tickets. Their hype train is over after getting derailed these last two games.
When you get outplayed at home in the potentially deciding game it wrecks you, and there are far more oilers highlights that game than panthers and you know they're being played everywhere for 3 days

As long as the Oilers don't go back to dumping the puck into the corners and keep playing as they have I'd say they have a great chance. Much will depend on Skinner, as well, who has come up big at crucial moments in the game. I'm just happy to see it turn into one of the most exciting series I've ever witnessed.

That Mcdavid goal from the goal line; Bob likely seen all the goals scored off the goalies mask from that spot figured he'd cover the upper area and somehow Mcdavid finds the 5-hole. Really made Bob look silly but he was probably coached to do that.
Yep. If you watch the replay, as Bob loses sight of the puck when it goes in the net, the first place he looks for it is in his glove and genuinely looks surprised when it isn't there.

Odds are still in favour of the Panthers. The hockey gods can be cruel at times and sometimes the difference in a game is puck luck. But the Oilers have improved the odds from 6.25% to 25% by winning the last two. One thing for certain, there wouldn’t be a better hockey story than a team that was in last place in the entire league after the first 12 games, comes back and then wins the Stanley Cup after being down 3-0 in the Stanley Cup final. This could be the stuff of legends.

Though it initially looked like a cake walk, Skinner has actually been the biggest star on the Oilers keeping them in until the folks that were supposed to be scoring finally got the puck past Bob! If he stays solid and they win it all he deserves the Conn Smythe though if McDavid beaks the record he's a shoe in. Not sure they can count on Bob going 4 games straight without a victory. Florida will probably be the loosest in Edmonton, if they don't win there Oilers may pull off the big comeback as they will be the loose ones in game 7!

We all know that this is all Florida's to lose... They could have had it in game 4 and 5 but came short. As a hockey fan, I think it's only storybook-like to have McDavid win it in 7 with a crazy comeback win and that really would be upsetting to Florida fans but what better story can be told from this? I can imagine it now... "McDavid wills the Oil back from a 3-0 deficit to win it all, claim the Conn Smythe and break Gretzky's seemingly unbreakable record with 50+ points in a single post-season". It would be incredible to see it happen in my lifetime and I'm sorry that it might come at the cost of the Panther's winning their first cup but this is storytelling through hockey, if it goes that way. You'd have to appreciate it from that perspective.
Edmonton still has to win 2 more games, but in games 4 and 5, Connor McDavid has looked like the NHL version of David Ortiz in the 2004 ALCS versus the NY Yankees when the Red Sox were down 3 games to none and made the spectacular comeback on the back of David Ortiz carrying the team to a series victory. Hard to believe how badly the Panthers dominated the Oilers in the first 3 games, and now seeing Edmonton just owning the Panther's in games 4 and 5.
