    I think that there is nothing wrong with aligning yourself with like-minded people, but when you start to believe that there is only one way of living it’s a cult. I believe what we strive for is unconditional love for all humanity. I believe we all have a version of this inside of us, our most authentic self, but it looks different from person to person.

    Using AI as your “therapy” is a really, really bad idea. I cannot emphasize how bad an idea it is. AI is trained by indiscriminately scooping human writing from all kinds of sources, including profoundly unhealthy ones. A new federal lawsuit was just filed against one chat AI for encouraging people to kill and harm themselves, which is only the most extreme of many troubling interactions people have had by doing exactly what you guys are suggesting as a good idea. Express a difficult idea or emotion, and AI is just as likely to respond with ideas taken from American Psycho or a pro-Ana website as it is to pull from things put out there by smart and helpful people. Not necessarily obviously out there ones, but responses that reinforce selfish thinking and minimizing the needs of others, or that feed into any pangs of self-hate or depression you might be having. And everything you tell it is going into a database that is probably not doing anything right now except teaching the AI, but as soon as companies figure out ways to use that info, you’d better bet they’ll be paying for access to it. Do you really want to feed that corporate machine with your personal thoughts?

Pretty impressive! Anyway, the content of his vlogs didn’t speak to me. I think the channel is more geared towards guys. So two weeks ago I started to watch Raya’s channel and expected to see what I see on the family channel. Boy was I surprised! Being a single girl on the adventures of her life was and is great to watch. She was such a fun, down to earth, a great speaker, smart single woman. Now she is that plus the nurturing mother and supportive and sweet wife! Well done Raya!

As someone who has grown up in the church as well it has been very interesting to figure out what that all means to me in my adulthood. Personally, I think it's very good and healthy to questions one's beliefs. People can take it a step too far by saying you're not allowed to question your beliefs...among other things.

    what Louis said about body image is very important. The media and the world we live in truly make distorted versions of what beauty, attraction, etc should look like. But I wanna take it a little bit further. We live in a society that makes us compete against each other constantly: who's more pretty, who has more likes, who gets paid more, who gets better grades, who has tha fanciest clothes or the bigger car, even who suffers more. It's soooo tiring and so difficult to disconnect from. I remember being a kid at school and teachers kinda promoting this competition to get better grades than the other kids and me thinking "why would I want for the other kids to get worse grades than me, I wish we could all get the best grades". Or hearing elder people say stuff like they had a worse life than us and we shouldn't be complaining about injustices. Man I wish the future generations had the easiest, happiest, most fulfilling life, even if I dont get to live like that. We should be working together to make a better world for those who come after us. Don't buy into the extreme individualism they are trying to impose on us. We are stronger together

      @@brennapetersen8522 but there are others that are thriving on that keto diet even a few doctors here on youtube that went on that keto diet. Personally the thought of just eating meat makes me nauseous ..I think the best diet for the majority of humans is the Mediterranean diet It is about moderation not depravation. Plus humans are all differnt what some people can eat other can not . In the US I think biggest problems is all the crap that is our food GMO, stuff on our wheat, dyes, chemicals . JFK jr says when he went italy and ate pasta there he had no gluten allergy symptoms. You can search on youtube people comparing the ingredients in the same brand and item in the US and other countries,,, other countries do not let certain poisonous in their food. but that company makes it special for other countries but keeps the bad stuff in the item they sell to the US people.

    Please don't read this as snark. I'm genuinely wanting to understand how people who are so focused on authenticity and goodness, how do you reconcile dismissing and deleting social media app when that is literally your job? You rely on social media for us to find and consume your content as content creators, yet you are rejecting the concept and calling it toxic enough to delete it. And you put your children on it as content, from an age where they can't consent or understand? How are we as your supporters supposed to digest that? I want to support your work but I only find and have access through social media.

    • @snickerdoodleknits
      @snickerdoodleknits หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Are you subscribed to their channels here on TH-cam and able to watch/listen to their content here? I don't use social media to get updates for their channel, and I don't feel like I'm missing out on their content. Not only do I find TH-cam less toxic since it's a search engine rather than a social media platform, but I also find I am more intentional about how I spend time here, because I am very conscious of the time commitment when watching videos on TH-cam (as opposed to scrolling on social media). Alternatively, if you are "just" listening to the Reroot podcast, you can listen via Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts; and I find podcast platforms even easier to be intentional than TH-cam, since TH-cam has other video recommendations, and it auto plays another video when one has started.
      But, ultimately, I think it comes down to how you're choosing to interact with these platforms. Like Raya mentioned that she is more intentional about using Instagram on desktop as opposed to on mobile. If you are aware of your habits as you consume social media, you will know where you're not being intentional, what is toxic *for you*, and what boundaries would help improve your life. There are thousands, if not millions, of businesses that rely on the internet to make money. And at the same time, there are still humans behind all of these businesses who deal with the same struggles as anyone else. Some folks tend to fall into the habits of doom scrolling more than others. Some folks tend to get distracted by social media more than others. Some folks spiral from social media more than others. If you're someone who has super healthy boundaries with social media and it's not negatively impacting your mood and your life, (in my opinion) you don't need to feel poorly because you use social media. I believe the intentionality that these folks talk so much about is really just being mindful of where your time and energy are going compared to how you want to be living your life. If there's a disconnect or misalignment there, that's when actions like deleting a social media app may be helpful.
      I know this is just my perspective, but I hope it helps! ❤

    What irritates me about travel influencers is the fact that they seem to completely ignore that their immense consumption of mobility contributes significantly to climate change, which is already causing devastating effects in many regions of the world. They talk about appreciating nature and all living beings, while their lifestyle massively contributes to the destruction of our natural environment. Do these people even spare a second to think about the people in India and Bangladesh who have to endure temperatures around 50 degrees Celsius due to climate change and lose their livelihoods in catastrophic floods? They speak about universal love and are at the same moment unbelievable egocentric.

      I’m curious how much airplane travel impacts climate change. Is it a big part of it, as far as you know?

    • @Susanne-qp8vj
      @Susanne-qp8vj หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SarahNissen A single round-trip flight from Costa Rica to Canada in business class equals the annual CO₂ emissions of an average person in India (2 tons). In comparison, the per capita emissions in Germany are 8 tons per year, while in the United States, every person emits 14 tons per year.
      For a single round-trip flight from Costa Rica to Europe:
      Economy-Klasse: ca. 3,4 Tonnen CO₂.
      Business-Klasse: ca. 6,8 Tonnen CO₂.
      First-Class: ca. 10,2 Tonnen CO₂.
      A single round-trip intercontinental flight for the entire global population would more than double humanity's current annual CO₂ emissions.
      Emissions at high altitudes have a stronger climate impact than those at ground level. In addition to CO₂, airplanes release other pollutants like water vapor and nitrogen oxides (NOx), which contribute to cloud formation and ozone creation, further enhancing global warming. These non-CO₂ effects can increase the climate impact of aviation by a factor of 1.5 to 3, making air travel disproportionately harmful to the environment.

    Really interesting and honest conversations. I just want to add that God is love so keep exploring that concept. Eamon, the christian hymns are some of the most beautiful I have ever heard. Listen to and look into the background of It is Well With My Soul. The hymn was written by a man that encountered absolutely traumatic events, but managed to find the peace in it because of feeling God's love. The nail to the cross that Bec was singing was based on an event that actually occurred. It's significant since it demonstrates God's love (the bible will unpack that one for you).

    I love the thought of living in a "real community"! Where I live (Arizona) I don't have a community - I hardly know my neighbors and I've lived in the same house for over 20 years. We don't even answer the door anymore - it's always someone wanting something from you. And now that I'm older (I'm retired) I wonder if it's even possible to find a community. I go to the gym a lot (working out helps) in hopes of finding new friends, it's slow-going because everyone is usually on guard. I feel as if being a part of a community is NOT really important in the US today, it hasn't been since the 50's - sadly. love you guys!

    I love Raya and Louis! Thank you for having them on your show. This this whole conversation gave me a lot to reflect on. I have to say that I felt a bit like Raya was shaming those of us that are not Vegan at the end when you asked the "real talk" questions...the eating animal talk at the end really threw me...Especially when most of what she was saying was all about acceptance and love. I was waiting for Eamon would jump in and say something.

    Lovely Podcast! Community oh man what a great topic... I could talk hours on end on this. But maybe I just pick one aspect out of it in my review. I now watched just a few Reroot Podcasts here (sorry for being a little late to the party)... but it is so inspirational to see that all the guests you have at the podcast I feel I know a tiny bit already. The pandemic period was the time, which opened up the "TH-cam-Universe" to me and it was these videos of the Vanlife TH-camrs (I used to refer to back then), which caught my interest and I was and still am following you. After a while watching all of your different channels I got curious, if you all know each other and how cool that would be. Then a little further down / deeper into watching your content... there were references between you (Eamon and Bec, Raya and Louis, Trent and Ally, Craig and Aimee, Kara and Nate, Jordan and Kaylee, Max and Lee, Theo and Bee, Brittany and Drew...)... So there it is... a Community! This community is very authentic, so real and unique in the way that it is not restricted to a certain region/town or area... it is a Community which exists across continents, cultures, confessions, believes etc. - And although it is debatable and probably very one-sided, but I always feel I am more than just an "observer" or part of a quiet "audience" watching all of you. This aspect makes me feel connected and makes me look positive every time I tune in... as it is proof and shows, we (as humans and societies) are able to live in better ways together and the world is not just one big mess. I thank you all for allowing me taking part (by watching and from time to time commenting) on your amazing journeys!
