In many camp interactions, even before the last chapter, You can see him talking and being a boot licker to Dutch, and slowly becomes " nicer" and more amicable with Bill, Javier... everyone actually... even with Arthur saying things like " I look up to you Arthur. " or " Oh come on, You and I make a great duo" He is " nice" to the competent fighters in the group while the rest he looks down upon. More than once he tries to convince the gang to kick out the women and non fighters of the gang. But his manipulation, when it fails, He turns against the people and tries to get rid of them. I am even convinced that He sold Arthur out so he could be captured by the O'Driscols and disapear. Like Micah said " I'm a Survivor black-lung. I do everything it takes to succeed". He is an oportunistic snake

And it's irrelevant what Micah's motives were for wanting to cut them loose, whether he thought they were holding them back, or he just wanted to weaken the gang by thinning the numbers, or (unlikely, but possible) he wanted to get them out of harms way as he was gunning for Dutch all along. Either way, it was the right call, and maybe Karen and Ms Grimshaw wouldn't have died.

Makes him a great foil to Arthur, who was also raised by a criminal IIRC. Only, Micah decided to go along with that life until the very end, whereas Arthur chose to turn his own around. Or he died a miserable death, alone and abandoned by everyone just like Micah, depending on the way you played the game.

I always wonder why the gang never came up with a plan to make Micah dissapear, or well, the sane members at least, they barely knew the guy, he never gave the gang any reasons to like him and the only one that wanted him there was Dutch, also if one day he never came back i'm sure it wouldn't be that surprising for Dutch, i mean, it's Micah we are talking about, even the animals hated his guts, i'm sure Dutch would't find it impossible that maybe one of Micah's many enemies got a hold of him. I have got a theory where the bank robbery Micah did with his crew down south could have been in Rhodes. Hence why Micah knew of Dewberry Creek when the gang relocate at the end of Chapter 2

Micah had been a good "friend" to Dutch for quite a while by the end of chapter 6 constantly feeding his delusions and supporting him in any matter possible and was always by his side. Arthur had grown distant from Dutch in chapter 6 believing he was going insane and that caused Dutch to feel betrayed by his adopted son and that's why he picked Micah's side over Arthur

In my opinion…I think Micah Bell is the most accurate portrayal of an outlaw in the game. When he is present you can feel what a dangerous man he is. He has little to no redeemable qualities about him but a lot of what he says (though said insultingly) is true. Criminals, especially ones for this time period, are all around scummy people. Micah’s backstory just adds to that realism. Rockstar didn’t shy away from showing this narrative through Micah’s first interaction with Sadie or his willingness to kill or let go of others holding everyone back. I feel like rockstar did him dirty by making him a rat. It came off like they needed the story to progress and it would be easy just to throw that blame on Micah as he’s the bad guy. Which proves my main criticism with the games writing. It feels as though rockstar tries to win over the audience with the “good guys” by just making them super friendly and nice but criminals when they need to be. Unlike Red Dead Redemption where the way characters like John Marston or even Marshal Johnson carry themselves and speak show enough about the character to know what they’ve been through. That’s called good writing. And it makes for memorable characters like those mentioned. Aside from Arthur, none of the characters really stuck out in that way to me…but that’s just my opinion🤷♂️
When I was first playing the game I actually thought Micah was going to end up befriending Arthur… or even helping him cause I was like nah he’s to shitty to be the real piece of shit.. But I do disagree with your thought on the gang how they’re “nice & friendly but criminals when they need to be” 1 it’s Arthur’s perspective you’re seeing it from, so they’re going to be friendly to other members in there gang like some gangs in real life (which doesn’t hold to much weight since there’s so much tension between a lot of members even as early as chapter 1, forget the racial tension Micah & Bill were already scrapping all of that partying and shit was false hope & blindness to the truth, people go to clubs alone & interact with strangers it’s completely doable with people within your clique even if you don’t like them you develop a strange toxic attachment, like Javier & Micah talking in chapter 3 when they’re drunk) 2 The whole point of Dutch’s mini “society” was to not be a “gang” it was really more of a cult that challenged societal norms which made them very unique & different from the rest of the gangs (most gangs in real life are shitty but you have some cliques that stick out & they sometimes even become successful or they are LYING to themselves akin to Dutch’s squad & eventually they falter) The world of RDR2 shows you what you’re looking for through the other gangs Skinners, Del Lobo, Brood, Night Folk (worst of the worst similar to certain irredeemable gangs like MS-13), you also have O’driscolls, Micah’s gang, & Brontë/Martelli’s mob (they are bought out by money not an ounce of loyalty or fucks given about those around them maybe 1 close friend.. these are the most common gangs we see in real life) then you, then you got the Anderson boys, foreman boys & laramie gang which aren’t really gangs but just hired muscle or low thugs tryna make some money (we see this a lot in American & UK inner cities) But the 2 gangs in the game that stuck out was the Lemoyne Raiders & the Van Der Linde gang (they had more of a complexity to there structure & thought process which I believe Rstar executed almost perfectly) Dutch’s gang had a split mentality (most of the folks who died would side with Arthur) same with the raiders (however instead of being broken down into characters like the Dutch’s “society” it’s simplified into generations, with the old clinging on to old ways & not letting go of pre-1865 with the young using “the cause” as a way to murder people & fulfill there psychotic thoughts (there’s an event where Arthur witnesses a young lemoyne raider kill an important man to the state & an older one states “we could’ve ransomed him you fool” or something like that…. But it’s similar to Dutch’s gang in split ideology like Micah & Charles) basically I’m saying Dutch’s gang isn’t even supposed to be a gang in their eyes which is why the characters are the way they are & that’s why we have those others gangs to show the psychological/philosophical dichotomy (at least to Bill, Micah, Dutch, & Javier) The only part of the story that bothered me were Bill & Javier were under developed + Sadie & Charles felt to good to be true (not enough character flaws or at least they aren’t focused on them to much like other members of the gang)

Micah probably thought Dutch was a good way to make money since he had all that gold, and wanted to make dutch feel like he owed Micah. From that perspective, to me at least, it makes sense.

It feels as though rockstar tries to win over the audience with the “good guys” by just making them super friendly and nice but criminals when they need to be. Unlike Red Dead Redemption where the way characters like John Marston or even Marshal Johnson carry themselves and speak show enough about the character to know what they’ve been through. That’s called good writing. And it makes for memorable characters like those mentioned. Aside from Arthur, none of the characters really stuck out in that way to me…but that’s just my opinion🤷♂️
When I was first playing the game I actually thought Micah was going to end up befriending Arthur… or even helping him cause I was like nah he’s to shitty to be the real piece of shit..
But I do disagree with your thought on the gang how they’re “nice & friendly but criminals when they need to be” 1 it’s Arthur’s perspective you’re seeing it from, so they’re going to be friendly to other members in there gang like some gangs in real life (which doesn’t hold to much weight since there’s so much tension between a lot of members even as early as chapter 1, forget the racial tension Micah & Bill were already scrapping all of that partying and shit was false hope & blindness to the truth, people go to clubs alone & interact with strangers it’s completely doable with people within your clique even if you don’t like them you develop a strange toxic attachment, like Javier & Micah talking in chapter 3 when they’re drunk)
2 The whole point of Dutch’s mini “society” was to not be a “gang” it was really more of a cult that challenged societal norms which made them very unique & different from the rest of the gangs (most gangs in real life are shitty but you have some cliques that stick out & they sometimes even become successful or they are LYING to themselves akin to Dutch’s squad & eventually they falter)
The world of RDR2 shows you what you’re looking for through the other gangs Skinners, Del Lobo, Brood, Night Folk (worst of the worst similar to certain irredeemable gangs like MS-13), you also have O’driscolls, Micah’s gang, & Brontë/Martelli’s mob (they are bought out by money not an ounce of loyalty or fucks given about those around them maybe 1 close friend.. these are the most common gangs we see in real life) then you, then you got the Anderson boys, foreman boys & laramie gang which aren’t really gangs but just hired muscle or low thugs tryna make some money (we see this a lot in American & UK inner cities)
But the 2 gangs in the game that stuck out was the Lemoyne Raiders & the Van Der Linde gang (they had more of a complexity to there structure & thought process which I believe Rstar executed almost perfectly) Dutch’s gang had a split mentality (most of the folks who died would side with Arthur) same with the raiders (however instead of being broken down into characters like the Dutch’s “society” it’s simplified into generations, with the old clinging on to old ways & not letting go of pre-1865 with the young using “the cause” as a way to murder people & fulfill there psychotic thoughts (there’s an event where Arthur witnesses a young lemoyne raider kill an important man to the state & an older one states “we could’ve ransomed him you fool” or something like that…. But it’s similar to Dutch’s gang in split ideology like Micah & Charles) basically I’m saying Dutch’s gang isn’t even supposed to be a gang in their eyes which is why the characters are the way they are & that’s why we have those others gangs to show the psychological/philosophical dichotomy (at least to Bill, Micah, Dutch, & Javier)
The only part of the story that bothered me were Bill & Javier were under developed + Sadie & Charles felt to good to be true (not enough character flaws or at least they aren’t focused on them to much like other members of the gang)

But when it comes to Micah word vs Arthur or John word he takes Micah side.
On top of all that the manipulation and Dutches deteriorating mental state didn't help.
And yes maybe not at the beginning but it quickly becomes the reason dutch trust Micah over his sons.

@@goldhunterbob3280you have to keep in mind that Arthur and hosea started questioning dutchs decisions even in chapter 1 micah used that small wedge to get in dutchs ear to make himself seem like the only one who who is keeping faith in dutchs decisions dutch is a manipulator he was always using Arthur and john he was also delusional micah fed those delusions plus dutch lost hosea who was one of the few people that kept him grounded to reality it's pretty clear dutch already had narcissistic tendencies with the way he gaslights Arthur pretty much any time Arthur questions him honestly dutch is just as much of a snake as micah he just made it look pretty with grand talk of ideals and dreams he was always gonna descend at some point micah just sped that process up
