@@PhillipSkraba I would challenge anyone to get a cinematic look from any drone at 12:00 noon. In my opinion the most important thing to get that "cinematic look" is golden hour lighting. I have seen people with cheap drones with GoPros bolted on with no gimbal achieve a beautiful aerial composure when shot during the golden hour. it's interesting I've watched about 10 of these videos on TH-cam in the last couple of weeks talking about this for the mini 2 and no one ever mentions how critically important lighting is to get that look.
@@ke4uyp Actually, sorry to correct you here, every single shot except the 2nd one were shot between 11am and 1pm, but it's winter and the sun is super low here in Poland, so the shadows are quite long. The 2nd shot was done about 20 mins before the sun went down. I've shot a ton of footage at noon, and sure it's a challenge, but it can look fantastic. I do agree however that footage shot when the sun is going down is mind-blowing, but it is possible to get "cinematic" footage at noon, you just have to work it.
@@PhillipSkraba can you name one major movie that has cinematic aerial views done at 12:00 noon. There may be movies with aerial shots done at noon but they don't look cinematic they just serve the purpose for that particular part of the story of the movie.
@@ke4uyp I'm afraid I don't follow what time cinematographers shoot their drone footage at in specific Hollywood movies, but if I can do it with a tiny Mini 2, I'm sure Hollywood can do it with a Matrice 600. I worked as a fashion and portrait photographer for a long time and I met a lot of people who were scared to shoot at noon because of the bad lighting and scary shadows, I embraced those points and used them to my advantage. I think a good cinematographer, no matter what situation, no matter what time of day, can pull through if he knows how to and deliver a bad ass image. Add to that a colourist who knows what he's doing and you're golden.
Thank you so much! I have been waiting for many years to get a drone. After watching your video I am convinced I am ready to take the plunge. Your skills convinced me to give it a try. I was truly impressed by your videos.

@@PhillipSkraba I do it’s so much fun. The only part I’m stress is i don’t want to fly in some restrictions zone that I’m not aware of. so far I’m reading plenty of regulations to make sure I don’t break any rules.
Sure, be considerate, be safe and just general common sense. Nowhere near airports, prisons, motorways etc and you'll be fine. If you fly in a no fly zone by mistake and fly out the drone police won't be after you, so just be aware. Use Airmap and you'll be fine.
Phillip, hope your vacation going well! Posted short clip today while out practicing some of your suggested techniques. Short 34 second edit of lucky timing, had ND16 on still trying to figure what is best ND or UV filter to use for various times of day. Captured bout 20 minutes of pretty smooth flight over local scenery, hope to do some more edits soon.
Constructive criticism: You say don't flick your sticks but in your example motions you're flicking your stick. Cheers. Love the videos. Helped me tons.
I’ve been viewing a ton of drone culture videos lately including bunch of your vids, but this is the one that got me to click and subscribe. Keep up the great work Phillip!
I have never owned a drone until this month so thank you so much for sharing how you do it. Have you ever tried without the joysticks installed? I watched someone else on you tube and they do better without the joysticks.
You're welcome! I've had to fly without one joystick once as I lost it in the sand and I HAD to fly, it was quite dangerous, please don't do that. Use the joysticks!
Any way to turn off that "charge the phone" option in the DJI FLY APP? I clicked on it and now I do not see the option to turn it off. I also re-installed the APP but it is not there anymore. I was told it is controlled by the AOS on the Android phone but I can't do nothing to stop it. I just don't want the controller to loose too much power. Thanks in advance.
are there any ways to dampen / ease the sensitivity of the sticks? perhaps by adding some rubber rings so that they cannot be moved too much too fast too jerky?
I am a dji mini 2 user. I used the gimbal settings on the controller (not the smart one) using Mode 1 because it turned out to be easier to control the drone. What do you think?
That is a very personal preference, I’m good with how it comes boxed, but sure, some people might prefer a different mode. Whatever you’re comfortable with!

@@PhillipSkraba Yes, Dji mini 2, took for the test today following you other video. There is slight learning curve, but still was a blast! Question though, it will be around -12 degree tomorrow, is it wise to take it for a flight?
@@otarikokojevs Thought I'd chime in here if Phillip doesn't get back to you. Is it -12 C or F? Here in the US I live in Minnesota and personally only fly above 20F but that's just to keep my drone and battery safe. You can fly in lower temperatures but you're really putting your new toy at risk. The drone and battery really deplete quite quickly in lower temps. Also if it's foggy out, i'd say forget about it. I've heard of one drone owner flying through fog in sub freezing temps and he ended up having ice form on his propellers and his drone seized up mid flight and crashed down, luckily he was able to catch it as he was performing the rocket quick shot. Hope that helps man! Welcome to this awesome hobby and community!

Phillip great video thank you, looking forward to taking my Mini 2 out as soon as these storms have passed.
Thank You, have fun with it Alan!
YOu are the lifesaver!! Ive been searching for these vids but this was one of the best, great straight to the point tips. Thanks a lot man
You're welcome, had a great time filming these!
Thank you so much! I have been waiting for many years to get a drone. After watching your video I am convinced I am ready to take the plunge. Your skills convinced me to give it a try. I was truly impressed by your videos.
You're welcome Mike! You'll love it, it's a wonderful hobby to have, and taking some time to polish your skills can really make flying it a huge pleasure. If you need a link for it, you can find one in the description of this video 🤜🏻🤛🏻
"Smooth motion...in your ocean"
🤣
Can't help it! 😂
This is a great video. Can you please provide more tutorials on camera shots with drone and how to execute the shots. Brilliant tutorial. Thank you so much.
Sure, I'm constantly working on something, I'll get some out when I finish planning them Francis.
I bought the DJI Mini 2 about a month ago and have really enjoyed flying it. I started watching your TH-cam videos today about cinematic footage and absolutely enjoyed it! You have motivated me to be a better drone pilot using smooth control movements. The video portion will come with practice as I have adopted your settings. Again thank you for your expertise and your humour! I look forward to many more videos from you Phillip! Cheers...
Thank You Carl, I'm glad you liked it. The most important part is to keep on flying as much as possible. Keep it slow, keep it smooth, no sudden movements and no course correction, count to 15 whilst holding your shot and you have some great footage.
THANK YOU
You're welcome!
Super intro grabbed my attention and fantastic advice on how to get these shots. Thank you so much
haha, that's just me fooling around. You're welcome!
Received my mini 2 last week. And just practicing my flight manuoever. It will always be a trial and error how to get the right angle and everything. Thanks for some Infos I will use it. And also learning by doing is always the best thing to happen. Already Subscribed.
Great video for a total novice like me. Your settings solved my choppy video issues. Loving your style. Thanks very much. You have a new subscriber
Thank You! I'm glad I could help you out. Great to have you aboard!
Phillip Skraba 👍
Great Mini 2 videos! Can't wait to check the rest out.
Thanks!!
My goodness man that last shot was mad!!!
Thank You!
Indeed one of the best video about drones and how to fly drones properly.
Thank You! I'm really happy you liked it!
Love it. What can you do with all these cinematic shots?
Well, for me, it's about being able to pull them off well enough to use them in a larger story, so the drone only plays a small part in everything.
Getting ready to buy my drone this weekend. And have been watching a ton of videos. And will definitely try your suggestions and practice them.
Thank You! I’m sure you’ll love it when you get it, the key is to be calm. What drone are you thinking of?
@@PhillipSkraba I’m going to buy the mavic mini 2
@@rickdraper2600 You're going to love it! If you need a link, there is definitely one in the description, wink wink*
My first flight this afternoon on my new mini 2, came home watched this and WOW! Showing what my small drone can do thanks
I hope you had fun! Yes, this little drone looks like child’s play but it’s actually a monster in disguise 🔥
@@PhillipSkraba There is so much to learn its basically an photo hobby but that's why I loved your stick control here will be far better tomorrow when we get out again.
The more you practice the more you’ll be able to pull this off in your sleep. It gets a lot easier the more you fly.
i am so inspired all of your videos especially those cinematic footage. now i have dji mini 2 and ready to mimic your way.. i have to practice and practice maybe hehehe
Thank You! I'm sure with a little bit of flying you'll be pro in no time!
Man, I think I’m in love with your videos content. It’s just exactly what we all need. I bet tons of people will agreed.
Thank You! I really appreciate that, it's great when someone connects with what I do.
Good stuff. Way to be informative with some humor. Adds some good flare to the mix. It goes a long way. Gives people confidence in their flying skills. Appreciate it…
Thanks Mike, I’m happy you think so!
Love you presentation style. A bit of humour and such along with real tips. Just got my Mini 2 and binging videos everywhere. Your shots definitely belong in a Hollywood movie!
Picture quality of this drone is unbelievable for the price. - Cheers
I agree, the quality of this drone for its price, well, it's fantastic!
Finally someone explains everything in a slow motion step by step instructions . Well done and keep it going.
Thank you Mike! Hope you have fun with it!
Helped me tons.
haha, thanks Rusty! Well, just make sure not to flick them when flying! Glad this helped you out.
Late to the party, just got my first drone (the Mini 2) and found your channel. Turn out that playing Xbox for ages helps A LOT with drone flying 👍
If you played Xbox you're going to be bad ass at flying drones! Playstation not too much, they're a little stiff on the sticks 😂
I’ve been viewing a ton of drone culture videos lately including bunch of your vids, but this is the one that got me to click and subscribe. Keep up the great work Phillip!
Thank You! That makes my day Christopher, I appreciate the sub!
I look forward to trying some of those settings next time I fly
I'm happy to hear that!
@@kavinwillamson1599 Yes, apparently Android controls this function. I only use iPhones so I'm afraid I'm not help when it comes to Android devices.
Thanks again for the Pro Tips. I have to get it smooooth with those sticks, and slow pitch....ahh! Nice!
You're welcome, have fun out there Mike!
Excellent, thorough descriptions, thanks!
Thanks Ken, glad you liked it!
are there any ways to dampen / ease the sensitivity of the sticks? perhaps by adding some rubber rings so that they cannot be moved too much too fast too jerky?
I constantly come back to this video when I upgrade. I've started to love and appreciate learning to fly smooth in normal mode.
I’m glad to hear that, that’s what this video was for. Have fun!
You nailed this .. I am really impressed
Thank You!
Great video. I get my Mini 2 this Sunday. Can’t wait to take it hiking.
Thank You! Have fun with it 🔥
Your videos are just brilliant, reference filters for the mini 2 which ones would you recommend ?
Thank You! The Freewell filters linked in the description of this video are by far the best!
Excellent shots !!! You should be on Hollywood 😊
Thank You!
Excellent, try, try and try ... As many times as necessary. A lot of training .... I need this, my finger is very heavy. Thank you for the tips.
Thank You! Yes, practice, be really smooth and delicate on the sticks and you'll be smooth in no time.
Watching it an year later... totally worth it still.. great tutorial
Thank You, that's great to hear!
Thankyou Philip your videos help me a lot. All the best from India.
You're welcome! All the best from Poland 🇵🇱
PHILLIP, LOVE YOUR STYLE! THANKS FOR AN EXCELLENT VIDEO ON THE MINI2!!
Thank You! I'm glad you liked it, Mini 2 is awesome!
I love to watch your videos because you're really providing good information and i can clearly see you're really passionate about this!
Thank You! Yes, I'm very passionate about it, drones, filmmaking, photography, that's basically my life.
Today got my first dji drone ever, searched for beginners tuts and youtube dropped your channel first and deeem what a quality content here! 👍👍 Subscribed!
Thank You Otari! Did you get the Mini 2, how do you like it? Great to have you on board!
@@ToxidiumTube Ah, yes, wanted to say Celsius. So it will be colder during next week and after your comment I will keep it inside till temperature will rise up a bit. I took it out today twice and it was -4C, but performed as expected, no crashing heh 👍
@@otarikokojevs Gotcha! -4C is totally safe in my book! Actually was out yesterday in temperatures around that and had nice success! Likely will be out again today flying! Totally getting addicted to this little Mini 2 drone, haha!
Bought mavic mini 1. But found it had a lot of signal and loss of connection issues. Upgraded to mavic mini 2, problems solved. It is no doubt the best drone for its price. Highly recommend 😃
Yep, exactly how it went down for me, the Mini 2 gave me peace of mind.
Love that shot from the cathedral! Unfortunately it is not allowed in my country (Germany) to fly that near by water streets. But I hope I will find another great spot in my Surroundings. Great Video Phillip! I will definitely stay as a subscriber because of your tips and sarcasm! Have a nice weekend
Servus ich will mir eine drohne holen. Auf welche verbote muss man achten?
I'm interested to understand why you choose fast rates to then only move the sticks a small amount. Wouldn't it be easier to use the full range of motion? In what shots are you using the full stick?
Is any of the footage edited afterwards? Or is the footage shown the raw footage that is filmed by the dji mini 2? Looks awesome!
All of my footage is always delicately edited, I dropped a film on how I edit Mini 2 footage recently. Thanks!
You have the best explanations of how to move the sticks to get the desired look. Love it! Keep it up!
I have the Mini 2 a short time ago and I have loved your video, I am going to practice everything you have taught us. I hope I'm lucky tomorrow and it doesn't rain. You have a new subscriber ;)
Thank You! Have fun with these, I'll be dropping a fresh one very soon!
Great Job on this video Philip, this is the single video on TH-cam which explains exactly what you need to do with these sticks... 👍
Some people like GoPro'ing the sticks, I'm not a fan of that, I prefer you hold the pad, watch the screen and I walk you through it. Thank you, glad you liked it!
Excellent video! Love the detailed descriptions of the settings and cinematic examples. You’re an ace!
I liked the tip for coming down and looking up. I've been doing a lot of up and looking down. Definitely a classic a shot that I have been lacking. Thank you sir
Yes, I think that’s a nice one!
I got my mini 2 today and I love it so much!
I'm happy you like it!
Nice tutorial. I have the Mavic Mini 1 but I will try these settings. How many Fps do you use for this cinematic shoots?
I always shoot 25fps 1/50th, thanks!
Phillip, another valuable video. Especially for us beginners. Thumb up!
Thank you Marek, happy to be of help!
Good film! I can see how surprised you are (as I am) with how sophisticated this tiny little, inexpensive drone is. Cool
I am still surprised! It's incredible and can't wait to see how this series of drone evolves!
Thanks Phil, got that, just getting back into it again. I used to have a Q500 but haven't been droning for a while, but hopefully with your help I should be able to pick up where I left off. I now have the DJI Mavic mini 2, obviously a lot smaller but I like what I read about it.
Pete St.Helens
You made it clear it has to be done smooth and you have to practice a lot to be 1/3 good like you!
Nah, 2 weeks flying these moves and you'll be smooth as butter!
Anyway you can do a updated vid like this on android with those gimbal settings? Thanks
REALLY enjoyed this. First time drone flyer with Mini2. This was really helpful. I can tell I really need to practice. But I can already see the potential after just 3 flights.
And I just became your 5000th Instagram follower!
Thank You! Yes, practice comes in handy here, the more you do it the smoother you'll be. No way, I thought I saw someone pop my 5k cherry the other day, thanks Nathan!
