As an ex-missionary - and ex-Christian - who has done a lot of learning about how so many fall for what should be quite obvious lies, one thing that needs to be addressed more frequently is the fact that the vast majority of church services today utilize well-researched hypnosis / mentalist techniques. This isn't "woo woo" hippy science, but actual science of the type that can and has been reproduced in non-religious laboratory settings. It's hypnosis that utilizes things like certain types of music, patterns of speech, and more to place the listener's brain into a state that is more suggestible and less capable of critical thought. We also know that the more often a person succumbs to hypnosis, the easier and more quickly they tend to succumb to it in the future. We have a nation made up of millions of people who grew up being hypnotized at least once a week - and who continue to regularly subject themselves to this level of hypnosis in their adult lives. If these people then attend a Trump rally which utilizes the same exact techniques their brains have been trained and conditioned to respond to by entering that suggestible, non-critical thinking state... well, we're seeing the results of that now. I highly recommend people look into some of this. Look into the effects of music played at certain tempos, of the types of speech patterns many pastors use, etc. Look up mentalist Derren Brown, who mostly does non-religious stuff but has also utilized his skills to do things like convince an entire room of self-professed atheists they'd just experienced God in an undeniable way (before telling them the truth of what he'd done), or mimicking a pentecostal-ish church service that ended with a line going out the door of people who believed they'd been healed, despite all of them having been told quite clearly at the beginning of the event that nothing supernatural would occur that night. Derren also once trained an actor to infiltrate the faith healing community. His goals in all of this are not to hate on religion, but to show people that we are all vulnerable to these techniques and should go about our lives with eyes open to them. If people want to believe in the Christian God, that's completely fine as a personal choice. But they should do so with full awareness of the hypnosis techniques being applied to them at church every Sunday. We need to educate people about these things, so they can make *educated* decisions moving forward. Trump is simply taking the methods of the church at large to the next logical place - the political arena - carrying them out on an audience of people who have been largely conditioned from birth to respond to such tactics in a way that suits him. Education is the answer. It won't reach everyone, but it will reach some.

We finally quit flying the flag when someone left us a message chiding us for being Trumpers. Our beautiful flag has been co-opted for a nefarious movement. As an ex-missionary - and ex-Christian - who has done a lot of learning about how so many fall for what should be quite obvious lies, one thing that needs to be addressed more frequently is the fact that the vast majority of church services today utilize well-researched hypnosis / mentalist techniques. This isn't "woo woo" hippy science, but actual science of the type that can and has been reproduced in non-religious laboratory settings. It's hypnosis that utilizes things like certain types of music, patterns of speech, and more to place the listener's brain into a state that is more suggestible and less capable of critical thought.
We also know that the more often a person succumbs to hypnosis, the easier and more quickly they tend to succumb to it in the future. We have a nation made up of millions of people who grew up being hypnotized at least once a week - and who continue to regularly subject themselves to this level of hypnosis in their adult lives. If these people then attend a Trump rally which utilizes the same exact techniques their brains have been trained and conditioned to respond to by entering that suggestible, non-critical thinking state... well, we're seeing the results of that now.
I highly recommend people look into some of this. Look into the effects of music played at certain tempos, of the types of speech patterns many pastors use, etc. Look up mentalist Derren Brown, who mostly does non-religious stuff but has also utilized his skills to do things like convince an entire room of self-professed atheists they'd just experienced God in an undeniable way (before telling them the truth of what he'd done), or mimicking a pentecostal-ish church service that ended with a line going out the door of people who believed they'd been healed, despite all of them having been told quite clearly at the beginning of the event that nothing supernatural would occur that night. Derren also once trained an actor to infiltrate the faith healing community. His goals in all of this are not to hate on religion, but to show people that we are all vulnerable to these techniques and should go about our lives with eyes open to them.
If people want to believe in the Christian God, that's completely fine as a personal choice. But they should do so with full awareness of the hypnosis techniques being applied to them at church every Sunday. We need to educate people about these things, so they can make *educated* decisions moving forward. Trump is simply taking the methods of the church at large to the next logical place - the political arena - carrying them out on an audience of people who have been largely conditioned from birth to respond to such tactics in a way that suits him. Yes I agree with you. It is very similar to having a family member with an addiction. To watch them engage in actions that hurt themselves and hurt others. It is very your right to break ties with someone like that. I think you should feel no guilt at all for doing so, it is for your own well being. The quote is NOT to suggest we should never judge the actions of others, of course we should. We are interconnected as human, each human action impacting the other. We ought to judge the murder, the cheat, the lier and so on. This is the foundation of morality and determining right from wrong. The full quote is stating do not measure others in a way you are not willing to also be judged. That you can not have one measure for self and another measure for others.
