      @@TheJoslynJourney Hey ! Why not take the famous day boat from North Washington State at Port Angeles called "The M.V. Coho," (Black Ball Line Ferry), to Victoria, BC, and then get on HWY 19 and head North Up Vancouver Island to Port McNeill and Port Hardy. There's lots of campgrounds (Including Free ones) on Vancouver Island, and your USD's will go over 30 % further in Canuk Land 😃👍. Then take the Ferry over from Port McNeill to come visit me in Alert Bay, BC, Canada. 🍁 🍁 🇨🇦 😃

      Yeah, that's one of the challenges of these behemoth truck campers - you need a BEEFY truck. We have a Ram 5500 with a custom truck bed. While a 3500 dually will typically work, we ended up upgrading to the 5500 to support the required payload for the camper + full-time stuff. Here's a video of that monster! th-cam.com/video/wv353XdYxgE/w-d-xo.html

      @@TheJoslynJourney The use of space the lack of organization. I know you live in the camper full time, but a little Swedish death cleaning (an actual thing) would make your space way more pleasant. I love my camper and treat it like my home which it is when we are traveling. Less is better and for the love of god get all that stuff out of your shower. However, do what you want i it is your life enjoy it.

    • @TheJoslynJourney
      @TheJoslynJourney  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I agree that we could lose a little clutter, but I'd rather show normal use. We use our shower to hang up clothes that are wet from the rain or snow. Winter clothes are also quite bulky and work best in the shower. We have much less stuff out now in the summer but ah well. Thanks for watching!

    Curious, why did you choose the Cascade over other Host models like the Mammoth? And did you test any EagleCap campers like the 1165 or 1200?

    • @TheJoslynJourney
      @TheJoslynJourney  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Calvin. That's a great question - I should make a video on that! We originally looked at the Lance 1172, Eagle Cap 1165 , the Host Mammoth and the Host Cascade. We felt the quality was better on the Hosts based upon what we saw. They seemed to be laid out better as well. We chose the Cascade over the Mammoth back in 2018 since we had a Ram 3500 dually (diesel, crew cab, 4x4) and was quite concerned about being overweight. The Cascade was about 1000 lbs lighter. We also liked the layout of the Cascade - the recliners made it feel more like a home . We also liked the bathroom tucked back rather than it being the first thing you see when you walk in on the Mammoth. We liked the back door vs the side door (if you're staying at rest stops you can't easily have your steps out without blocking other rigs). But we preferred the windows in the Mammoth (we have a bathroom window vs more in the living area) and now they have cool ideas to shroud the toilet in the Mammoth. There are days when I wonder if we can go smaller like the Northern Lite without slides, and then I have days wishing I had 3 slides so we can have one of my (grown) kids stay overnight. Always looking... :) Hope this helps!

    • @calvinl2149
      @calvinl2149 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheJoslynJourney thanks for the detailed reply. The weight difference concern makes sense. Some TH-cam videos show the Mammoth on 350/3500s, but I think I'd personally be concerned about weight without suspension upgrades. At that point, going to 450/550 for peace of mind might be easier.

    • @TheJoslynJourney
      @TheJoslynJourney  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Calvin L I agree. That's why we upgraded to a 5500 before going fulltime. We were over gvwr but not axle weight. So too close for comfort unless we were doing short trips and not packing much. Just our $0.02.

  • @boondockingamerica
    @boondockingamerica 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The sad part about host campers is they are too heavy for the legs to support. I had one sitting next to my northern light down here in Key West and the legs collapsed on the Host with stable campers attached.

    • @TheJoslynJourney
      @TheJoslynJourney  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmmm... Interesting. I personally haven't heard much of this and was at a Host repair facility last year for several months. All of them pending work there were using just the jacks to keep them up. We use our jacks regularly at campgrounds as well (off the truck). I wonder if there was something else wrong that may have caused that to happen. I have seen jacks compromised when someone accidentally backs into something or something backed into the camper. Those jacks are rated to 4500 lbs per jack - we're heavy but not THAT heavy! 😁

    • @boondockingamerica
      @boondockingamerica 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @TheJoslynJourney yea it surprised me also. The front corners of the camper caved in and the Jack's pulled the corners apart. I have never seen one do that. No matter what brand it is. I got some really good pictures of it but I have no idea what caused it to tear apart. Unless they changed something on the 2024 models.

    I'm 6'4" do u know of any builds or truck campers that are tall enough for some one of my height to live in comfortably?

    • @TheJoslynJourney
      @TheJoslynJourney  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, and thanks for looking! Host rigs are reasonably comfortable for someone of that height. The shower skylight will give you good room and light. Gary is 6'1" and his biggest challenge is washing his face or shaving in the mirror (he gave up and does that in the shower). In general the Host toilets are a bit weird - you have a step to get up there. Best to try one out. Eagle Caps I understand are decent for taller folks too, but they are no longer being built as of 2022. Hope this helps!

    • @TheJoslynJourney
      @TheJoslynJourney  ปีที่แล้ว

      @adeleburchett8663 just be aware these campers are SUPER heavy. Many of us have large trucks (5500/550), especially if you're going to be on the road full-time. Just buying a dually may not be enough. That's quite a bit of a learning curve. We had a Ram 3500 dually and went to the larger 5500 because we were overweight before wven adding all our full-time stuff. Food for thought! But we've LOVED being on the road for the last 2 years!
