Literally completed this game for the first time today and I love it. And that bad luck in Edin where the runner got stuck made me feel better about myself given how long I spent in that area and even with all of the items I had it still too me many more tries to kill that boss. Good job man, I don't plan on speedrunning it but I hope i'll get better.
This is perhaps my favorite speed run so far. The game looks amazing, I've never played it but I'll be robbing myself if I don't get a playthrough in this year. It was great having the developers notes added on to each part making it more personal. And the runner did so well, minor hiccups don't taint this at all. I have a lot of respect for someone trying to be this precise under so much pressure. We as veiwers are truly spoiled. Thank you

I only just recently played this game after finishing AM2R and looking for something to scratch that itch.
Needless to say, I was not dissapointed. This game is incredible.
I watched the 2018 speed run and then this one after they talked about it. All I can say is kudos to the runner for his patience and sticking with it. For those that don't play this game, he entered an area [very, very early without address bomb] where you basically get SHREDDED without the right weapons. Great game!

Damn dude, those deaths were brutal. Sorry you had to go through that, it must've been embarrassing. It is a tough game to run though, and you kept your composure pretty well. Nice run aside from the bad luck!

This speedrun was my first introduction to Axiom Verge.
It was really late local time and I was asleep for most of it, but I remembered the wasp boss and the visuals of the final boss. Even being that tired, it totally sold me.
Shame about the V-sync causing issues, but I'm glad it was figured out later!
How did you find out about the vsync? I'm glad people are picking up on it though. I guess I took one for the team xD
I really enjoyed this run, the runner, the couch, the devs on the call. Solid GDQ run. Hope to see more of Gvirus at another event. And Axiom Verge!

NEW POSSIBLE SPEED TECH: If you zip (brown coat movement) while going through a door, you can zip around during boss intro animation. Hope it helps.
It's been known for a while. Somehow I missed it in this run. But next monday for SGDQ I'll make sure to pull it off!

I just finished this game at 24hrs 28minutes FUCK YEAH. I had 97% map and 80'something % items. What a fucking cool game that was. Loved every bit of it especially the OST.

After seeing this run, I immediately purchased this game. I now understand the difficulty GVirus had with the section he got stuck in with the resources he had as well as how tricky the movement abuse is. Hope to see a 100% run at SGDQ!!
Tom deserves every single penny he's getting from this game! It is a hard game but you'll see I explained the main reason why this run was pretty much fucked. Gameplay issues arising from playing with v-sync on instead of off (changes gameplay and enemy placement)
This is my favorite game of 2015. Shame about all the deaths, but this game is very difficult when you're not picking up all those items.
After the 4th death, the entire couch just goes silent. I like to think they were all wondering where the nearest health upgrade is located and how quickly they could detour to grab it. Still a very entertaining run though.
Nah I was wondering if I just wanted to get up and leave haha! The pressure was unbelievable but next monday for SGDQ I get my redemption run!

Honestly, the quick kill on the Queen Bee boss was worth the amount of time it took to do. Cause that was cool.
yeah and its actually really difficult. I dont think aynone can do it consistently.
Fabian Sandfuchs actually with the stup we use it's pretty much free but running the game woth vsync on makes enemies harder to corrupt which messes the timing for the quick kill. we found out about vsync 4 months after my run. drop by my twitch channel when I'm streaming axiom i'll show you!

VSYNC is what killed the run!
I did this infinite jumping casually (using dashing instead of the disruptor, because at the time, I figured more height is good), when I got lost near the end of the game. Isn't it required to finish the game anyway? How do you climb up to the final area without it?
It's really not as difficult as the guy on the couch makes it out to be, I don't think... Isn't it just Y,Y,Y,Up,Up?
Nope because you need to cancel out the drone cooldown by using the address disruptor between each drone launch. It is faster using the disruptor.
Dimitrios Lianopoulos Yeah, the Up,Up part was dashing. That cancels it too.
that's weird I tried it just now but it does not cancel the cooldown.
garjian It is not required. That trick doesn't even seem like it was intended to be in the game anyway. The normal way is to go up in an alternate route to the right.
Just finished my first speed run of this game. It was...slightly longer than this. XD 2 hours 32 minutes. But whatever, it was my very first. So we'll see if it gets better.

Is there a no-save warps category? And if so, how long does it take?
+Kenta Kurodani Hard to say but for a normal player like me it'd add probably around 30-45 minutes. The biggest save warp he did was so he could get back to the first two areas faster. He also skipped Gir-Tab with it, as well as the grappling hook and the address bombs. Beyond that content and that warp, not a whole lot of time is saved this way, just a few minutes here and there of boring transit/backtracking.
As a casual player who got all the PSN trophies, my low% speed run was just over 2 hours with 29% of items collected and 64% of the map explored, and I did not save warp exploit because I wasn't good enough to just not save--especially before trying the quick-kill wasp boss. An actual speed runner could probably pack the time I'm estimating as 30-45 minutes into like 10-15 minutes though.
I could probably even try speedrunning this game, if only the warping wasn't a thing. It's murder to my fingers, no matter what controller I use.
It really isn't as bad as it looks!

Played this game for 1h on regular mode. Too easy. Then switched to hard mode. Finished it in 8 hours. I enjoyed it, but compared to Metroid, is generally easier.
I don't understand how Gvirus is responding to pretty much every comment here, and most of them aren't even directed at him! Also the run here didn't truly show off you skill in movement tech, some of your personal videos look really impressive though.

Dimitrios Lianopoulos And yeah, I cannot even come close to that run for this game. Especially since my personal favorite weapon is the flamethrower, and getting that weapon requires both the passcode tool and red coat, and a note from within Tourian if you do not want to use a walkthrough. My 100% speedrun for Metroid Zero Mission was under 90 minutes. I used to save exactly twice in my runs, first save in Ridley near that one room with the missile expansion within the crumbling block puzzle, and the second save right before fighting Mecha Ridley.
+Corvo Attano haha yeah mzm os amazing! this is one of my worst runs but found out vsync affect gameplay and it was on for agdq. thats why all my tech seems off.
After the 4th death in the same area I had to up this to 2.0x speed until he finally passed it. I feel bad for him, but jeez. Maybe try not to rush so much in a marathon setting? Go a little slower and methodically take out the enemies that consistently give you trouble? I've never once faulted a runner when he said something like "I normally do X, but that's not marathon safe".
Also why is the "quick kill method" for that wasp boss something where you just wait around at the start? Can't you chip away at him until he sets up the quick kill? I know the more damaged he becomes, the faster he becomes, but still. If he had chipped away at him before going in for the kill, he would have beaten him first try.
Because the setup is not gonna work if you start damaging the boss from the get go. To get him in a precise position for the little wasps to be corrupted and exploded in his mouth (damage area) you need to move in a precise manner. Also, we just found out that playing with v-sync on changes a lot of things and makes everything harder to land. V-Sync was turned on at AGDQ. All my runs are v-sync off. Enemy placement is different too with v-sync on.

Save/load/skip glitch is one of the most annoying ... I just want to see these games done fast, but mostly in the ways they were intended to be played ... 🏃
It was intended this way buy the developper... That's why he made the speedrun mode for the gae. Do some research.
