I gotta say, I appreciate whoever edited these to upload them this year. Leaving the empty space between runs to the end instead of the beginning of these videos is SO much better.
35:34 Thought my phone was ringing at this point but then I saw GVirus reach down and click his phone. Love that the both of us use Corridors of Time from Chrono Trigger as our ringtones! lol
GVirus crushed it this time. His 2016 run was unfortunate. There was a lot of bad luck and he did well to pull through, but he bent the game to his will this year, great job man.
The commentator mentions the lab coat gimmick and said he didn't know of any other similar item to phase through small walls. For one example, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. The first main boss gives you the ability to phase through fences. Nice run and commentary!
If you count the fog ability from Castlevania SotN, it's basically the same - except you can only go through specific gates and not just any wall. And I mean, SotN is as famous as Metroid and Super Metroid, funny ti wasn't thought of...
I didn't realize I was playing this game on secret-hard-mode even in hard-mode. Bloody VSync/framerate glitches in games ... Would certainly explain why bosses had so much health.
Saw a clip of this game and never saw the name. I’m interested in playing it for real. I love Metroid and it’s original side scroll style and games based on it.
This game is fantastic, basically my favourite metroidvania along with Super Metroid. Very good mechanics, great music, level design, story, gfx style. It's difficulty is balanced well, bossses are hard enough to make game engaging and challenging but not frustrating and disappointing like for example Hollow Knight's bosses.. You dont have to be a gamer god to finish this game, but it also does not feel too easy. Thoman Happ is a genius for making this by himself and i hope he will make more :)
@@airiakizuki5592 I am not sure what its called, but get the internal energy beam. It shoots through multiple targets and the damage is not too crappy either. Beat the end boss first time, just spamming that thing, while doging/tanking lasers.
Lag, the game had periodic slowdown hiccups from time to time. Timer counts by frame, watch the "ms" spot, only goes up to 59. The game ops to not drop frames.
Wow, I'm playing The Messenger right now while watching this, and they mention Sabotage games who created a "ninja Gaidan level editor" turns out that they made The Messenger! Crazy coincidence I suppose. Can't wait to see The Messenger run in a GDQ event. I know it will be.
I know the dev team very well! They were all watching my run at the studio and donated during my run. Their game is amazing and I will pick it up soon!
Vsync prevents screen-tearing, Vsync however always causes input lag- it's really, really minor (milliseconds) but when you're speedrunning it can come down to milliseconds. Particularly for frame-perfect moves or glitches.
Other replies forget to mention that vsync normally cuts your framerate in half, which of course will fuck with per-frame effects if the devs aren't careful with how they implement things.
This game was pretty bad to play casually but it looks like an awesome speedgame, runner definitely did it justice. Commentary was great too, nice work all around.
Runner introduction starts at 00:27. Run starts at 3:17.
I gotta say, I appreciate whoever edited these to upload them this year. Leaving the empty space between runs to the end instead of the beginning of these videos is SO much better.
Do you know that feels like a kick in the balls? Finishing the game 100% with vsync on the whole time and then hearing this.
Join us on Discord! We all get kicked in the balls on a regular basis by this game ^^
Facts
This game blew my mind, such a sense of mystery and satisfaction when you figure out what to do
35:36 I love how he has a Chrono Trigger ringtone and that it went off. Thought I was going crazy for a moment.
That was one of my alarms actually xD Didn't realize it popped on stream!
35:34 Thought my phone was ringing at this point but then I saw GVirus reach down and click his phone. Love that the both of us use Corridors of Time from Chrono Trigger as our ringtones! lol
V Sync does what?!?!??! And I've been playing with it ON!!!!!
Terrible things. It does terrible, terrible things.
Personally I don’t mind it on some games because screen tearing can really bug me.
Clear and clean couch commentary there.
I bought this game because of the 2016 run. It is such an amazing game.
That's amazing to hear! Glad you saw that one too!
Very good game, very good runner, very good couch, very good speech at the end, thanks a lot everyone!
Thank you so much I really appreciate the kind words! A lot of work was put into the run and the couch as well!
I watched the entire thing and I’m still dying to hear that bad joke about Silicon Valley
No wonder I struggled when I was playing this game casually, I was playing with V-Sync on!
Indeed! Vulajin killed it!
I just went to buy this on steam and discovered I already owned it.
super good game, lot of love put in it, also gdq's new overlay/menu looks slick
GVirus crushed it this time.
His 2016 run was unfortunate. There was a lot of bad luck and he did well to pull through, but he bent the game to his will this year, great job man.
Thank you very, very much! Means a lot!
Amazing run. Amazing commentary. Amazing game. A real joy to watch!
Thank you!
great run. i'm currently learning how to speedrun this game and watching gvirus has been a big help.
Thanks a lot for the kind words. Are you on the discord?
The commentator mentions the lab coat gimmick and said he didn't know of any other similar item to phase through small walls. For one example, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. The first main boss gives you the ability to phase through fences.
Nice run and commentary!
Thanks! I checked out LoC: SR and indeed it is similar!
I think about something similar and Soul Reaver also come to my mind.
If you count the fog ability from Castlevania SotN, it's basically the same - except you can only go through specific gates and not just any wall. And I mean, SotN is as famous as Metroid and Super Metroid, funny ti wasn't thought of...
the room before each boss is the boss theme from rygar.. I love that game too!
Rygar was one of Tom's main influence for his game!
Yes! Finally! Axiom Verge back on GDQ!
I didn't realize I was playing this game on secret-hard-mode even in hard-mode. Bloody VSync/framerate glitches in games ...
Would certainly explain why bosses had so much health.
V-Sync is evil
That was an amazing run by an amazing runner! Well done G-Virus !!
Merci mon Pat!
Shout out to the couch. Great job explaining everything.
A lot of practice went into it and Vulajin was amazing!
What did the background fellow shout to the BPM-point @ 17:51?
"I totally caught that!"
VSYNC 0ff
Great run bud. Really cool improvements from last time.
Thank you so much man! Appreciate it!
He makes this look so much damn easier than it is
Thank you so much! This was definitely my Rocky moment. Much better than my AGDQ 2016 run!
This was an all around better run than the 2016 one, except for the lack of developer commentary. All in all, good job, very enjoyable.
Tom couldn't make it this time but thank you!
Saw a clip of this game and never saw the name. I’m interested in playing it for real. I love Metroid and it’s original side scroll style and games based on it.
If you love the Metroid series you are in for a treat!
This game has such a great vibe
It is an amazing game ^^ Can't wait for the sequel!
Man if vsync was the cause of some frustration.... wow
This game is so sick, and the runner and couch were fantastic, too.
Thank you very much!
Done pretty well! This is really amazing to watch
Thank you so much!
Splendid couch commentary
Thank you! Vulajin was amazing!

LucasZembrzuski shadow complex?
Mother fucking REDEMPTION!!!
i saw the estimate of 45 minutes, and i remembered my run time. 26:38:08:54. 😂
Hitboxes, am I right?
@18:58 how did you get thru the wall. I have the upgrade but it wont let me pass. please help.
nvm
fighting the final boss in this made my wrist want to fall off
Flamethrower makes easy work of it. It does low damage though.

Where do they do these events at, like how do you find out about them?
gamesdonequick.com is the right place to look!
It's sad, yet amusing, that Orraca has been downgraded to "treadmill".
What did the guy say at 18:02?
"I totally got that!"
@Games Done Quick: Do you know where the 13 second difference between the ingame speedrun timer and the official GDQ timer comes from?
I think that was from the save-quits, if not, I couldn't see how that discrepancy occurred either.
Lag, the game had periodic slowdown hiccups from time to time.
Timer counts by frame, watch the "ms" spot, only goes up to 59.
The game ops to not drop frames.
IGT is a little behind RTA since the hundreths only go up to 60 and not 100
Huh, a small audio clip from Chrono Trigger in this game. Wonder if that was on purpose.
Nah my alarm went off on my phone! xD
Brendan Bard That was actually Virus's ringtone, didn't catch it first watch.
Wow, I'm playing The Messenger right now while watching this, and they mention Sabotage games who created a "ninja Gaidan level editor" turns out that they made The Messenger! Crazy coincidence I suppose. Can't wait to see The Messenger run in a GDQ event. I know it will be.

Kur theme
The best!
definitely a metroid clone
So much more than just a clone. But yeah the influence and love for the series definitely shows!
the last part of this game, between the last boss and the third last boss, is so fucking stupid... it isn't even fun to play it
Thats the guy with the human song ! 😅
The human song?
This game was pretty bad to play casually but it looks like an awesome speedgame, runner definitely did it justice. Commentary was great too, nice work all around.
I think the game is amazing all around but glad I could showcase a different angle to it! Thank you for your kind words!
