  • Inspection and adjustments of the inlet and exhaust valve clearance with the tappets on an old Perkins 6.354, these engines run in a Rampart 48 wood water craft called Highland Beauty, and the words do no justice to her name. A Beauty indeed.

    Hi Darren , I don't a mechanical background & only understand the basics of engines. it's interesting to hear you explain using your skill & experience how you diagnose & fix the engines problems. You certainly get a variety of jobs . Looking forward to the next one

    Here is a trick for the gasket peel a wire and use a tin strand of wire and tie the gasket to the valve top using ties on all holes this will hold the gasket in place and you can leave the knots of tin wire wont affect

    Hello Mr Crouch, love the channel. Not so much of a comment more a question. We have a BMC (Thornycroft) 1.8 in a boat near Lancaster. It has a stripped thread on the fuel injection pump and I think the only solution is to either have it rebuilt of fit a replacement. That's a skilled job and beyond this TH-cam watcher. The trouble is we cannot get a diesel fitter to come out to it. Is there anyone who you would recommend doing your sort of work in the Lancashire/Cumbria area? Cheers John

      I'm asking about for you. It's a bit thin on the ground there tbh. Where exactly are you ?
      Can you send me a picture of the issue either via Watsapp or email?

      I'll do a little follow up. I need to go back to fit a new silicone elbow. Part of the cooling system crumbled in my hand so I wasn't able to run it.

      @@dhcrouchmarineltd3049 Yes I'm cool thanks. I changed the horrible old CAV fuel filter on my yacht to a Racor 500 top loader (£40 Chinky copy which accepts genuine filters) and it is pure luxury after years of 1950's-tech leaking awkward CAV misery..no o-rings, no spillage. The genuine Racor filters are a bit more expensive, but they are bigger anyway.

    How many mm clearance

    • @dhcrouchmarineltd3049
      @dhcrouchmarineltd3049  ปีที่แล้ว

      The manual states
      0.008" (0.20mm) inlet hot or cold
      0.018" (0.45mm) exhaust hot or cold
      Hope that helps.
