    Great video, thanks for sharing. Being relatively new to owning my own boat I've always wondered what the set up was inside the bell housing - now I know! I have a Nanni 4.190HE engine with a PRM 160D2 gearbox, and sometimes I get a "hard' clunking noise" when changing from forward to reverse, even though I take my time moving the lever (i.e I don't slam it into reverse). Could this be a sign that the drive plate is wearing out?

    Very nice video. Nice and complete info but I still have a question for you. I'm on a sailboat with a Perkins 4.236 and have just had my nozzles done but I've since sailed on from the island where I had this done and I am now in a very "middle-of-nowhere" sort of place. Now I see that two of the injectors are leaking from the adjuster nut cap. I am pretty sure the shop did not replace the copper sealing washers on those. After watching your video, it seems I can attempt to fix this in the field. My question to you: Am I correct that there should be no harm done to the injector or the "pop" setting if I remove the injectors and torque down on the adjuster nut cap to 50psi as you did in the video in hopes to create a seal? I remember the man at the injector shop being very clear (although in a language I speak poorly!), not to touch the torque on the caps or the nozzle nut...but I think I trust you more.🙂

    • @dhcrouchmarineltd3049
      @dhcrouchmarineltd3049 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The caps/nuts are just a loose thread and bite into the copper. Provided you dont drag the setting screw back you'll be fine. Use a blow torch to reanneal the copper or better still replace them. Check the faces of each surface as this stuff is getting very old. You may have to lap out some pitting. Use a new oil stone very fine if you need. Be sure its flat hence new.

    • @strongmonty
      @strongmonty 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      What are the odds that I could drag the set screw as you stated, assuming I'm just setting the adjuster nut cap to 50psi? Is this a real risk, and thus proper protocol to recheck all of the pop settings after the adjuster nut cap has been torqued down?

    Hi, we have this gearbox and we hear a noticeable clunk when selecting forward gear from neutral. The oil level is fine and the ATF oil has been replaced during the time we have had it. At first I suspected a drive plate issue but if it only happens selecting fwd I am now doubting my initial thoughts. Any suggestions? Thanks in anticipation.

    • @dhcrouchmarineltd3049
      @dhcrouchmarineltd3049 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Loud clunking, depends how loud. If the drive plate is trashed and someone over advanced the idle then the box will thump into gear. The idle needs to be low for a smooth engagement. That being said if the cone has any burrs itll bind a bit.

If they are not on the engine then check the seals isnt hard. If they are crispy then definitely change them. All depends whats found. Great video, I can now 'see' what's happening inside my Technodrive gearbox. I had an enging rev 'surge' when manouvering at very low speed - it felt as if the input jumped off the forward ourput. Assuming the clutch surfaces aren't worn out am I right in thinking that the clutch can be adjusted by putting an allen key on the selecter barrel/shaft to move the fork?

      @dhcrouchmarineltd3049 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, the selection fork needs the float shimmed. It wont help the clutch bite more. The centrifugal forces of the shaft spin will keep the clutch in drive engaged.

      @@dhcrouchmarineltd3049 Sorry to be pressing you on this but an online manual has this: Clutch control unit adjustment: with the operating lever ref. 18 in neutral position, turn by hand the output flange ref. 26 and, at the same time, screw the adjusting screw ref. 28 with an alien wrench (4 mm) until the output flange rotation gets hard on a small arc only. Unscrew of 3/4 of turn the adjusting screw and fix it by locking the nut ref. 57.

      Yes thats the float depth of the fork. To much in and it binds on the clutch gear. Shimming just keeps it from fowling and jamming on the clutch. So in a sense it is clutch adjustment but not in how the clutch "bites" rather the selection of the clutch cone. Hope that makes sense

    Thanks for the video. How did you determine the correct distance to press the parts on the shaft?

    • @dhcrouchmarineltd3049
      @dhcrouchmarineltd3049 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The shaft has a ledge that dictates positioning. Once the bearings are against this ledge / shoulder the rest makes sense.

    Hei, i need to learn something.. saildrives have 2.7 or 2.3 times reduction.. or whatever nm is. Where is reduction.. in knee of saildrive where propeller is or inside gear box.

    • @dhcrouchmarineltd3049
      @dhcrouchmarineltd3049 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The only way to answer that is to ask what sail drive do you have. Propeller size will also make a difference.

    Do you happen to know if I can directly replace a hbw 100 for a zf12? Asap says its the closest thing. My question really is about the dimensions and gearing. Is the gear ratio the same? Will the ratio matter? Also will the adaptor plate fit to my bmc 1500? Will I have to lift or lower the bmc to line it up with the shaft? Any advice is much appreciated as I'm a bit lost..

      If I recall correctly it is a pain and yes you have to re-align everything and pull engine back of shaft forward.
