  • First video on the channel I thought I would introduce my recent purchase. An Alfa Romeo GT 3.2v6 on 118,000 Miles and which needs work doing, Going against my normal buying a car with no issues. Taking inspiration from ‪@AutoalexCars‬ I took a gamble.
    I hope you enjoy, please like and subscribe as I will be doing more on this and other cars. Let me know your thoughts in the comments. First ever video, I'm no video editor so the editing isn't the greatest but something to work on, so go easy :-)

    I had one, lovely looking car with an amazing engine but it was a complete money pit!
    Some stuff to look out for what I had to replace on mine.
    1. Water pumps are prone to fail unless replaced with the ones with a metal impeller.
    2. Keep on top of the cam belt services.
    3. Upgrade to the LSD if it doesn’t already have one, mine went bang the week after I ordered mine before I was fitted which blew a hole in the gearbox.
    4. You mentioned a water leak, I upgraded the lower coolant pipe with a stainless one.
    5. Check the rear shockers, the spring pan rusted through on mine and collapsed on the motorway blowing out a tire.
    6. Suspension is made out of chocolate so will knock and squeek, so your forever changing arms etc.
    7. I replaced the thermostat cause mine stuck open all the time, just look out for water temps cooling when on a long run.
    8. The ECU’s are also a known issue if I remember correctly, mine never suffered with this but worth reading about.
    Amazing cars when they work properly, good luck and I will keep my fingers crossed for you bud. 😂

      I have the diesel version. 207.000km. Bought it as a second car three years ago with 177.000km on the clock with water pump leak. I replaced both belts, all of the pulleys and the water pump, replaced rear shocks and springs, whole front suspension and it runs fine. No problem since I bought it, except the failure of the driver's side window control module, which cost me 50 euros for a spare part from the junkyard. I also bought 1 dollar relay for the control module to replace it on the failed one, and have a reserve one ready to go. The clutch pedal is stiff since I bought it, but it's same three years later. Currently I use it as daily driver and this is a car that is most anti-money pit car I had. Moat reliable car ever!

      @jamesalexanderbarnettdp9479 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@philipgligorov5848 good news then. Don’t bother replacing the clutch, I had a new one thinking it would solve it being stiff but it made no difference. I may add I have had 4 Alfas and they were all pretty good but my GT just kept having problems sadly and being the 3.2 everything is more expensive, services,belt changes, brakes etc.

      @philipgligorov5848 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jamesalexanderbarnettdp9479 Yeah, others have told me the same about the clutch. Also I already got used to it. And of course, there is huge difference in maintenance price of the diesel and the 3.2 busso... There is difference in the price of the car too. I would like to own 3.2 one day, or at least drive one to experience it but now after I married and have my first child, it's even more difficult to go into it. The diesel one is still perfect for me. I went 1032km in one tank without any refuel on open country roads climbing even a mountain, over 2000m (which means more fuel consumption). And that it's crazy for a car that has decent power and feel sporty and looks awesome 😎 I am happy that it's relatively rust free, except for some spots on the sills which are of no concern for me. I previously had 156 and 159 models and the 159 had the most problems. Vdc failure, clutch failed without any previous signs, bottom engine mount failed, steering rack failed, crankshaft pulley failed and I don't remember what else... All of this on 210.000km. I sold the car to a friend and most of the issues I named actually happened to him but it's still concerning...

    Check the rear spring/shocks. The top pan rusts but can't be seen and they collapse - can be a disaster. Always recommended to change them.

      @kevinoleary6906 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Me too, the first thing I noticed was smoke coming from the rear tyre. Thankfully I was able to stop in a side road and arrange to have the car recovered to my home address. In theory it shouldn’t be too difficult to change the shocks but the long through bolt is often completely seized. In fact the mechanic who did the job had to cut them away, luckily I had ordered replacements along with the shocks themselves. One other thing, I sprayed the spring pans with copious amounts of Wax Oil in the hope of preventing future problems

    In reckon all cars like this are a bit of a gamble - but that's all part of the game! I think all the major points have been covered already. Just to say, my Brera has the tan interior which at the time I bought it, I wasn't entirely happy about. But, more than a year later - it has really grown on me. It's class. Also I think that yours with that (quite rare??) blue exterior sets off the tan very nicely. Good job.

    I have just got a 159,blackline edition black and silver and 18in teledials just waiting on the refurbished guy,so it's a beautiful thing 2.0 litre petrol engine is very strong,and it's like new inside and the back seats look like they have never been sat in,and it's got the leather interior and a kenwood screen with reverse camera and it's multifunctional with phone,steering wheel a,bose stereo,system and a lot of other options I've only had a stainless steel exhaust fitted and the best alarm system, nitrogen filled tyres but it's easy,to top them up with normal air it only dilutes the nitrogen particles,which is to keep the same pressure just takes longer to dissipate than air,so when we get to a track day OK but if you take care of your tyre's then air will suffice for now and we can drive without any spine shattering potholes.to truly enjoy your alfa on the right road to appreciate the car and it's a joy to manhandle on b roads,and it's amazing to drive and to be a real car to cherish and I don't know of anyone else who has seen one I'm constantly asked what it is.

    It's just cosmetics. So long as it's kept rust free you can do paint and bodywork as time and budget allow. The leather doesn't even appear to have started coming off the doorcards and it has a quaife diif and new clutch. For the steering wheel get a good leather sew on steering wheel cover. Takes awhile to sew up but the result is quite professional looking, while protecting the original wheel underneath.
    The first question with these engines is ,'when was the timing belt done?'
    The only thing I would suggest is fitting a set of stainless steel exhaust manifolds. Not for the marginal power gain but to get rid of those two massive heatsinks masquerading as pre cats out of the engine bay. The heat they generate causes untold premature damage to hoses and wiring and the ECU sits practically on top of the rear unit.

    Have you checked the jacking points? It’s a notorious problem. Not with the Alfa as such but the fact that a lot of workshops don’t realise that the hard points for the lifting arms are inboard of the sills and require that the pads are partially unscrewed so that the arms do not touch the sills. Failure to do so invariably leads to the sills being crushed at the points where the car Jack is designed to fit. This of course is ideal breeding ground for corrosion as I have found out to my cost. Other than that an interesting first video I look forward to following your progress

    • @BradysMotors
      @BradysMotors  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No rust on the Sills thankfully. Drivers side sill is a little bent from being jacked up incorrectly but noting major and not that noticeable.
      Had it checked over and looks solid underneath 👌

    • @mofo1739
      @mofo1739 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      On the Gt the insides of the rear quarter panels contain sound proofing in plastic bags that are pushed down into the sill areas below .... These can fill with moisture and corrode the sills and quarter panels from the inside out . The rear seats and side trim - speaker panels need to be removed first for access and if the metal work looks sound give it a good coat of cavity wax while you are there . Bilt hamber s50 is a good one 👍

      Could be a failing water pump it happened on mine, what makes you think it’s the engine?
      When the water pumps fail the impellers spins on its shaft so doesn’t pump the water around the system effectively, hence the rising temps, it’s worth checking out.
