I grew up on the Lower Manor in the 70s 80s and 90s and 2000s over the years since rebuilding of the Manor Estate apart from a few incidents generally the Estate has improved.
I was a Pub Manager for a Local Brewery ( Stones ) when I was training I had a temporary manager stint at "The Manor Hotel" was according to the "News of the World" news paper "The Roughest pub in Britain" I was asked to take it on a few days after the locals had Ransacked the place, locking the Manager in the cellar. The place was shut for a few days after a fight in which a Police car was turned upside down in the car park..... I did survive :-)
I lived on the Manor from 1970-2005 and my mum lived there till 2016. The reason there's so much new housing is that in the 80's, much of the estate was found to have been built using defective mortar, so big swathes of houses were demolished. I remember a rolling wave of demolition going through The Manor from about 1984 and a wave of rebuilding ending in about 1990.
I think my dad once told me somthing similar to this about the defective mortar. Did some of houses get covered in a black plastic wrap type thing? They got nick named the bin bag houses?
Loved it, was born on Manor Park while the old man was in army posted at Tidworth. I reckon you should try either wybourn or castlebeck areas next just down the road.

The Estate is now relatively speaking a better area now. Lots of homes have been knocked down now. I would say the Parson Cross Estate is worse now. Even that has improved. The Estate in the 70-90s was rough. Very rough. Lots of crime. Lots.of deprivation. But there was a good community on the Manor. Many people lived there all their lives. Helped each other out and in some ways this felt pleasant to live there. I like the Manor people. Straight, working class salt if the earth types.
Oh and yes they were very tight....always stuck together when there was trouble. I remember when the council thought it fit to put Somalis in the flats years ago. They started causing trouble, but the manor lads terrorised them, so they had to move them out. Don't know about things now. Times have changed.
I was born on the manor I’m 66 now and yeah it was rough but if people new you it was ok lovely people on the manor back then had some good scraps on there lol then everyone was good mates after that no knives no guns people had a good argument but from what I remember everyone got on
Way you expect in the Manor It's berm worse over 100 years Look at the history of skye Edge Manor my great grandmother was front there from 1920 to 1958 then they were moved to manor new estate.
Half my family are from Sheffield and my great uncle was a bodyguard for one of the gang’s leaders pictured. I know the Manor fairly well and was fleeced there one night, but there’s far worse areas in Deedarland. I had my van broken into while stealth camping in central London, so it happens just about everywhere in the U.K. My dad always said there were no slums in Sheffield, perfectly good housing stock that was ruined by a few folks and the Town and Country Planners ruined what was left when they created the likes of the Manor and knocked down the central areas.
What a great comment David. And I couldn't agree more. I'd imagine what we know as the slums were fantastic communities. Not much crime would have gone by without punishment! The Manor was class back in the day. Iconic Interesting about your great uncle, some stories he must of had
I live at Darnall just down the road from Manor, its nowhere near like it used to be now and even back in the day it wasn't that bad despite the rep lol
You are thinking it's a council estate like it was in the past. It's not. The council houses were all demolished at great expense. What was built in its place was either social housing by trusts, or new build which is mainly the so called "affordable" housing. There is an active community too, with projects such as Manor Development Company and Manor Training and Resource Centre, run by local people. The criminals of the past can't afford to buy houses and a lot of the houses are no longer affordable. Of course the housing trusts policy of who can live in them will determine what an estate of their houses will be like. You simply need to look at who they give priority too in the applications. Last time I looked at one (years ago) included domestic violence cases and single parents with loads of kids. But the variety of housing developments means such things will be more isolated. In the 80's it was a dumping ground for the so called "problem" families, but that has stopped. As for me I took an active role in getting shut of the bad name, while I lived there. But the demolition left no houses built at the time and so I live away from the estate. But I miss that community sprite and I haven't found it where I now live in Sheffield.
So lets just recap a little..... Can`t turn the lights off.... There is no switch where it is needed....Has no control over the Only ventilation..... He takes the cutlery in the house to wash and leaves it there.... He can`t see outside... And he is afraid of the local dog walkers..... Dohhhhh God loves a tryer Gary old chap.... :-))
@@keithdagnall7686 money mate. The age old evil. Also, I have family around here and I just bought my council house so I got another 4 years before I can sell it to someone other than council.
High risk? Yeah right. ROTFLMAO at your hyperbole. I live five minutes walk from Manor Top now. I lived opposite the Manor a few years ago. I once saw one fight between two sets of lasses there, but everyone treated me in a friendly manner.
Highly offensive to decent people of the manor estate. I was born there 1964 lived there pretty much all my life i speak politely won't rob you my father brought up five kids on one wage my mother was a lady and some prick posts this shite.
I've only watched the first 2 mins. of this vid. and he's already come up with so much rubbish I'm not watching the rest. For instance, the Manor Estate was built between 1957 and 1959 while the gangs he mentions were active in the 1920s. The Manor did have a bad reputation during the 1970s/80s but has lost this in the last 20 years or so. Even when it gad a bad reputation it was never a no go area or anything like that and it was safe to walk through. I don't know what other errors or deliberate misinformation is in the rest of the video but I would advise anyone to take any derogatory remarks that he makes with a large pinch of salt.

@@TravelwithGaryandAmika years ago it was all over the news for various things. Tbf it has calmed down a bit, but where she’s currently living is wonderful!! Oh well. Kids eh!
Haha, I have it all to come
@@TravelwithGaryandAmika never, ever argue with an old lady and keep saying ‘yes dear’ and point out other options to amika. Keep her topped up with her fav snacks and the odd treat!! I may be 44. Shhhhhhh, but I still remember what kids can be like! X
At 2 min 45ish you drove past my car 😂
Haha. Awesome
"Is die fromt Manor dee..?" 😂
Haha
You have a beautiful daughter to think about! She needs you to be there for her growing up!!
I'll always be there
Has always found Sheffield hard to drive around .
Really?
@@TravelwithGaryandAmika yes . the trams and one way systems seem to spit you out somewhere else .
Haha
I would never put myself at risk.. instinct would tell you that it’s not safe. A lone van in a carpark is definitely putting the chances up there for something to happen, they target vans on owner’s property/driveways these days.. sign of the times unfortunately.. stay safe Gary , x
It's easy to take a insecure van on a drive while people are asleep. It's not easy to take my van while I'm in it 😀
I was prepared like I am where every I go
@@TravelwithGaryandAmika I know Gary Sorry just an absolute joke that we have to be aware of the worse thing that could happen.. hope you’re ok and can’t wait for your and Amikas adventures x
Sounds like some positive changes
You'll nail the narration with your voice once you get comfortable. I likey.
Ha, zero practice. Juat chucked some images together and did a single record. No time to get perfection 😂
@@TravelwithGaryandAmika nice addition. I'm in mate.
I try to avoid car parks personally as you just stand out
Pretty hard to hide a van, but you can hide in plain view
He seems to have done very little research into this programme. Manor top was Manor pictures, the working mens clubs were done the road on City road
Who?
Try stealth camping in nechells Birmingham... shefield and the manor is very nice in comparison..
I'll give it a go
@@TravelwithGaryandAmika I believe you will as well. ☮️
I was born on the manor I’m 66 now and yeah it was rough but if people new you it was ok lovely people on the manor back then had some good scraps on there lol then everyone was good mates after that no knives no guns people had a good argument but from what I remember everyone got on
That's good to know. Thanks for sharing
Try page hall next
Haha. I know it well
Braver than me mate! 😳😅
Haha a man who knows it well
@@TravelwithGaryandAmika yeah it’s a rough olde area is manor top! Glad you survived mate! Hope your well :)
Manor was bad late 70s mid 80s, Gleadless Valley not too far away is a lawless town
Rough
Nothing wrong with Manor lived on Farleigh from 2 years old only left when I got married. But my mum and Dad lived there till they died
That's good
Way you expect in the Manor
It's berm worse over 100 years
Look at the history of skye Edge Manor my great grandmother was front there from 1920 to 1958 then they were moved to manor new estate.
Thanks
Iconic
Interesting about your great uncle, some stories he must of had
Big mistake going there Gary. Yikes! I’m scared watching this 😢
Haha. It was all good. Probably more my imagination
I live at Darnall just down the road from Manor, its nowhere near like it used to be now and even back in the day it wasn't that bad despite the rep lol
That good to know
You wasn't Evan on the manor
You was on manor park ?? Very close but not the manor
Correct, but I did drive through the manor
You can take people out of the slum, but you can't take slum out of the people
Haha
Brave man, as an ex. Sheffielder, sleep well my friend.
Haha, it's all good
You are thinking it's a council estate like it was in the past.
Can't beat close knit communities
Try some Burnley estates
Hahaha, there is risk and there is RISK 😂
Agh pal try the woodthorpe estate now days its allways kicking off drugs gangs violance etc whatch your van there pal
Haha no thanks 😂
Gary rather you than me do your vlogs around country side than in places like that it was kind of scary for me
Haha, some country side areas are worse!!
Ive been on the Manor 33 years n seen the most fucked up things, it still as a dark side but not half as bad as it use to be
Glad it's getting better
I haven't actually lived there I'm not that brave lol. I've lived Darnall and that was bad enough. That was years ago so it may have altered. Xx
It's the people not the place, and the minority
Seriously I worked that area. Bat at the side of me...was bad
Owch
Weird guy wanting to go behind old police station
Won't be the first
So lets just recap a little..... :-))

Easy to drive around try walking around at nite if your not a local whole different ball game 🤷🤣

High risk? Yeah right. ROTFLMAO at your hyperbole. I live five minutes walk from Manor Top now. I lived opposite the Manor a few years ago. I once saw one fight between two sets of lasses there, but everyone treated me in a friendly manner.
Thanks for watching, everyone helps the channel 👍

The manor was not like that in the 1950-60 then people had work
Correct
The Wybourne Estate was worst ! at one time.
Was it?
@@TravelwithGaryandAmika yes in the 50's and so was Alfred road *Attercliffe"
Thanks for your comment. I used to live there 👍
