As a local resident we have watched this situation develop over the years until it has become swamped with vans, motorhomes etc, recently in the height of the season we counted approximately 120 vehicles parked-up up for the night. Assuming 2 people per vehicle thats a lot of money supporting the local economy, shops, cafes, pubs, attractions, buses etc. I have read the reports about littering and unsociable behaviour and whilst I have never parked-up up in the area I have not seen or heard of any such incidents. An Elsan point for black waste has been provided by the local council to address any waste problems. For a wider context, in the last couple of years the Forestry authority and the North York Moors National Park authority have both banned overnighting in all of its carparks across North Yorkshire, additionally any free or donation carparks are now Pay & Display. We have also found that the Canal Trust has banned overnighting in some areas across Yorkshire. Ultimately the individuals do have a personal responsibility to respect the area and behaviour responsibly, but I believe that the cause of the problems is the local authority and the lack of management by them to deal with the situation effectively. The area affected is not just the town of Scarborough, but the whole Borough of Scarborough from Whitby in the north to Bridlington in the south and the parking ban extends across all this area. All the spaces you could quietly park-up, enjoy the area and contribute to the local economy are covered by this ban. Furthermore, due to "residents concerns" who live near to areas where vans are known to park-up overnight a ban will be introduced to stop overnighting, essentially 1 complaint and that quiet wide street will have an overnighting ban applied. Anecdotal evidence suggests that van owners should only use a campsite when they visit the Borough of Scarborough, despite the fact that there are no campsites which are in a reasonable walking distance to the North or South Bays at Scarborough and further afield there are few if any campsites which are open all year round if you want to visit the coast, the forest, the moors or even the canals. As this video has stated the van marketplace has settled down and there are a lot more vans on the road since Covid. There is also a large shift in how people enjoy their leisure time and their living arrangements. This needs to be seriously considered by local authorities if they want to take advantage of these year round visitors and allow all people who want to visit the area to do so, no matter how they travel.
Thoughtful comment. Council knee jerk? Ban everything. Whatever happened to the notions of "free country" "land of liberty" "cherished freedoms"... all the stuff we are supposed to be thankful that "earlier generations" fought and died for?
@@dawnross2514 Whereas everyone should be *obliged* to line in a van or on a boat for a good while - so that everyone appreciates the need to use the minimum of our scarce resources.
Ironically, Scarborough town centre has gone down hill and it needs any tourists it can, in the right hands could be saved but with these idiotic controls put in place it’s doomed. When rules are stupid, ignore them.

@@jacquelinelawrence8373 still, there is space. Some places may indeed be too populated (although an empty parking lot at night...?) Still, there is space. It's not so that the whole country wants to do vanlife and cars and vans need parking lots anyway, wether there are people inside or not.
@@jacquelinelawrence8373 there is space in the UK, however the majority of it is private country estates, golf courses, church owned land etc. The space that parking restrictions are prohibiting campervans to park in still exists, just with a sign to say you can no longer park in it, so no, it’s not a question of there not being the space.
Exactly . This isn't about litter or fires ..its all about control . You will own nothing, ( stick to your 15 minute cities and live in your pod ) but you'll be happy . Nah . Do one . 👍
It’s been a time tested problem, people do something, a small number ruin it and then it’s completely ruined for everyone.. in every activity in life, there’s always a small percentage that has ruined it for everyone. It’s so frustrating. Especially as the bigger percentage are responsible..
they are using the blame a few to stop the pleasure of many to divide and conquer. you are falling for that tactic mark by blaming a minority when that could have just been made up to enforce the ruling
Really glad to hear that you’ve found a new van, can’t wait to see it next time. Park ups being closed down is a symptom of a society that’s taught people to look at others around them and feel threatened about who might be getting “something for nothing”, something they believe they aren’t getting themselves. Some people living in houses don’t like the idea of people living in vans “for free” ie not paying rent and house-based bills, because they themselves resent the high cost of living. We need to collectively look at the system that teaches us to pit us against one another and squabble over who seemingly gets more scraps, rather than placing the focus where it should be, on those in power who benefit from keeping all of us down with restrictive freedoms and financial inequality in society.
@@CamperVan-K dividing to country, divide and rule, has been government policy since 2010. Just thinking about 1933 on onwards from there, and you can see where this policy leads, the confluct it encourages.

That's the was it seems to work.
We have been motorhomers for over 30 years and have seen a massive change in attitude to them. I don't think its people not wanting others to be 'free' as suggested here. I think it is a genuine feeling that whether people stay in one place in a house or travel about in a camper is not important as long as they pay their way. What people resent I think, is that whether or not money is put into local businesses is irrelevant. That happens if you live in a house. It is the fact that vanlifers who generally wild camp or stealth camp do not contribute to the cost of local services such as rubbish collection, water etc wherever they go but someone has to pay for what they use and it is usually local residents.
I live in Aberystwyth mid wales, the exact same council reaction to camper vans happened here 3years ago. It’s a plan to stop us being free. It’s started off saying it’s locals in reality it’s the council trying to kill off small businesses too
You are so right, after all the recent years of brutal hits for small businesses councils need to really take into account how decisions Like this effect the local economy
I never understand the very British knee jerk reaction to a very small problem! Press run a story, people overreact and morons in council/government punish everyone not thinking about long term implications of their actions and repeat...
It's all deliberate. They see a problem, then they cause a problem to solve the problem. They want us all locked down into 15 minute cities and vanlifers (to them) are a pain in the proverbial.
Camping sites have hiked their fees. I paid £8/night to park my car and pitch my tent in 2021. In 2023, I returned to the same site and was quoted £70 for min 2 night stay. I drove on and found a lay by and car camped. Serves them right, imho. Camping is the only holiday I can afford. Without Camping - no holiday.
A bit mainstream, but Havens holidays do camping and touring and at this time of year its only £20 per night. I think most close late October/November but i can see Weymouth is still open at present and only £175 for electric pitch. Probably one of the cheapest out there at the moment.
As a local i signed the petition. The way forward was to charge a overnight fee. Sadly the ban has come in once SBC was disbanded and all decisions are made by NYCC in Northallerton. SBC installed the chemical toilet disposal point so were not against motorhomers. I believe the majority who complained were the campsite owners who i note have increased their fees further since the announcement of the no overnighting ban. People who don't understand say vans can still come during the day and visit local eateries etc, realistically vans won't come for the day knowing they have to move at night. On another note i don't encourage wave dodging people have died getting washed in from opposite the cafe doing the same.
I live in Scarborough and did sign the petition to revoke the council decision to ban vanlifers. I totally get where some of the locals get frustrated especially over the double parking but yes it doesn't seem fair that the small majority ruin it for all
Maybe its worth starting a new petition against the restrictions. 150,000 signatures plus will force the Gov to have to sit up & listen to the concerns of those these draconian rules will àffect. @@ThoseHappyDays
Itinerants and gypsies have been hounded for years . They are continuously being hounded by the police . Where do you live? The word needs to be spread that it is a place to congregate .
As a Scarborough local. During winter, when the parking is free on the Marine Drive/Royal Albert Drive(Oct 1st -March 1st),it can be very dangerous down there,to the point it is closed off completely. Winter storms cover where your currently parked,so there is a safety element. During summer it is unfair to day trippers that alot, and i mean alot, of spaces are taken up by people parking several days, when there are more than enough great campsites close by,which is also supporting the local economy. I support what you do but being discreet, like you were with Morgan,is the way forward,i think, for all van lifers. Please don't make wave dodging look fun, people die on a regular basis. Some of which, not far from where you were stood.
You make very good points! However we do feel that blanket laws don't help matters. They could limit stays to 48hrs in one spot to deal with overstaying for instance
@@ThoseHappyDays I get that blanket laws for every site don't make sense, but this site does need it. Dangerous in winter and monopolising parking spaces in summer in this particular location is a double problem. Maybe a parkup ticket during summer running 7pm to 7am with no camper vans allowed between 7am to 7pm would be a better compromise.
Your points are valid. However, there shouldn't be a ban on everyone who is lawabiding and kindly, and wanting to contribute to the local community. The thing is, those 15 minute cities will become a reality sooner rather than later if we allow this kind of blanket banning continue. A possible answer could be to limit the time for people to stay - say '24hour stay only' and get the traffic warden to monitor it on that basis. ps strangely, you didn't mention litter. And, have you seen the prices of those camp sites? You're mostely paying hotel fees for a parking space and a place to empty your waste.
A solution could be to limit the amount of time that anyone is allowed to park during the day (with no returns allowed during those hours) on the prom and at all these other very popular spots in the UK with a great view. Then allow overnight parking, say from 8 p.m. until 8 a.m. Even charge a small fee for overnight parking to cover the cost of emptying bins, etc. That will then give everyone a chance of being able to park up and enjoy the beautiful views, and give anyone with a campervan has somewhere to park for the night. Anyone with any sense does not park their motorhome or other vehicle, on the prom during storms, etc ., but no matter the location, you always get the idiots that want the adrenalin rush from chasing storms, hurricanes, tornados, dodging waves, surfing or sailing in dangerous seas etc etc. It's these idiotic people that put the lives of rescuers at risk, and there will always be those idiots no matter what parking restrictions are in force.
@@LifeinLancashire I agree. "Only idiots..."🤭There are more than you think. Its not so much parking up during a storm at spring tide, but parking up when the conditions are good, only to wake up to life threatening conditions. Planning ahead comes into it too and not everyone is capable of this.
I’m a big fan and love seeing how people live in their vans. I appreciate most people are respectful but I’ve also see the other side. We live in a small lane and a van pitched up with 2 adults, 2 small kids and a dog in the summer. At first it didn’t bother me….but as time went on they were getting messier and messier. They used to empty their grey tank along with waste food under their van which attracted lots of flies. The concrete is still stained with cooking oil /grease. They kept some of their belongings outside the van ..like bikes, table chairs etc. to be honest it was an eyesore. They stayed for about 6 weeks and were eventually moved on by the council. Unfortunately it’s those inconsiderate few that ruin it for the majority.
I’m glad they are doing this. We are motorhomes and we always pay for proper campsites. We have noticed that locals especially in Scotland they have became hostile to motorhomes , and we have been going for years, this year so many vehicles were aggressive on the roads. It’s such a shame that only a few people are ruining a wonderful way to get around the uk and enjoy its beauty…..
I often visit Exmouth they are very accepting of campervans. I stayed on the seafront at the West End near the new marina. Free parking from 6pm very quiet night facing the sea. Public toilets within easy walking distance. Friday night and no noise whatsoever. Park for the night mentioned also.
Hi Liam and Janine, we are from Northern Ireland originally and have lived here in Australia for over 34 years. I always get excited on Sunday afternoon when i remember that your vlog is on here around 7.00 pm our time. We have just sold our house that we built 31 years ago, moved out on Friday and we are in our caravan in a camp site not too far from where we lived. We have sold this van and bought a new one which we pick up on Thursday, also a car and a new home in New South Wales. We are going to travel and see Australia. I can’t believe what they are doing there with this new rule. Over here they have ‘free camp sites’ everywhere or sites you can stopover for $10 a night and an app called Wikicamps, that tells you where camps are. What people do is go free camping and on the forth or fifth day go into a proper camp site, replenish their water, empty their toilets, and do their washing, then move on to free camp again. The new van has a toilet, shower and washing machine, and I am so excited. I know you both want to travel America, but I so wished that, when you did the big reveal of where you were going to weeks ago, I silently prayed you would say Australia!! Maybe next time, and you could free camp in my back garden! I wish you both an amazing time in your new camper van, onwards and upwards and don’t look back, the world is your oyster, go pick some pearls! Love and blessings ❤️🙏😘 xxx Doreen
I hope this time all goes well for you both, because you both seem like good people and don't deserve all this hassle. 😉 however, being a nosey parker, I'm still curies as to what happened with the VW? 🤨 Look forward to your next post. GOOD LUCK.
Its not as bad as you might think there is plenty of places to visit, and Europe is on the doorstep, biggest problem with the uk is the government and the weather, personally I think the government is worse.
So excited to hear more about your new van and plans for the USA! My partner and I quit London life in 2013 and have been travelling the world full time ever since, finding ways to work remotely. Our best trip was 2022-2023 when we bought an old RV in Canada and drove it across the USA and Canada, stopping at as many national parks as possible. At the end, we sold it for pretty much the same price we bought it for. I still dream about the wild park-ups in the middle of the desert on BLM land and nestled in the National forests of Washington or on the coast of California. RV life gave us the most freedom we've ever had. You guys are going to love it in North America; there's (obviously) so much more space for van lifers than in the UK and so many more options for park-ups. I feel like it's way less constrained than the UK with its busy-body mentality. We're currently in Africa but are contemplating buying a campervan when we return to the UK in the spring and using it to travel there, with the goal of eventually shipping it over to the USA again. So, we're so pumped to follow your journey. We had been wondering how easy vanlife would be for us in the UK but despite the news you shared in this video we still think it's worth a shot and that's partly down to following your positive vanlife experiences in the UK, so thanks for sharing. Can't wait for the next update!
We've also just been to North Wales. We had a £10 pub park up one night, and a quiet road another night . The pub was in Talacre. There also one in Conwy, but the 3 spaces were all taken
At the moment we have the right but this is what the WEF agenda wants to stop completely. I've been in my van since March and currently looking for some land where I can site van and build a base. This is happening so quick now unfortunately.
@@pablosearthsadly there is not much available land left in the UK, and the land available, is expensive. Also, very hard to get planning permission to build on land or site a motorhome or caravan for permanent living. They have you either way.
Same thing is happening in a lot of places here across Australia though there have been a few reversed as businesses got behind the van lifers as they were losing business. Another problem here is they’re building, or have already mostly built new highways, the new highways now bypass most towns. Two things here, long boring drives (make you tired) passing nothing and small towns missing out. If you’re a tourist in a van it really pays to talk to the local van owners as they know the good free camps, where it’s safe to camp up, where toilets are, though we now have a toilet app for our phones and of course there’s Wiki Camp. We still don’t know what happened to your van but super glad you have another one. Stay safe guys and see you next week. 🥰
So glad to see you back . A small minority has always spoiled things for everyone . We are in our 70s now but have always enjoyed freedoms and nature like you . We were motorbikers and enjoyed camping , Sidecar club rallies after our son was born . One campsite owner who we made good friends with banned motorcyclists as someone stuffed a toilet roll down the toilet . keep up the good work and keep living the dream as long as possible .see you next week .
@@NeilBarrattagreed. This is an excuse. Even if this never happend the government could stage it. Blast it all over media and then change the laws to whatever they want. Its all about control.
Now in my early 60’s and had a camper for the last 42 years, unfortunately there are people that just don’t get the leave no trace etiquette. I have witnessed people emptying toilets into the hedgerow, bagging up rubbish and leaving it on the side of the road, dumping grey water on the road etc. I can understand why locals would be concerned. We now try and use basic campsites that cost very little and once a week pay extra to use the facilities of a more expensive site.
Yes totally hear what you are saying. Reading other comments on this video, it seems that local campsites to Scarborough aren't up to scratch and expensive 😢
The UK has a general littering issue and no fines or concerns are enforced . Bins are overflowing in lot of places and Blackpool other day was full do litter and bins full to bursting
@@TheDeadlyraptor you'd think rhe amount of tax we pay they could hire people to collect it. Thing is The powers that be really don't give a fig about littering by every day folks otherwise they'd do something about it. No. Its used as an excuse against all travellers because a hand full of them are messy. Also. They make it next to impossible to dispose of their waste. Again. All this could be fixed easily, but the government don't want that. Their real agenda is control and rinsing as much money out of us as possible.
Responsible Vanlifers have the same problem as responsible dog walkers... a few irresponsible and selfish dog owners have gotten dogs banned from many walking areas and trails.. now it's the few irresponsible and selfish van owners are getting overnight parking for van lifers banned in many places.
Funny. There's rubbish in every town in this country. But noone seems to get prosecuted for it. When a small number of travellers do it they blame the whole community. Also. U seen the state of redding festival afterwards. Tents for miles. No. If this was about rubbish they'd do something about it. This is about discrimination and ultimately about control.
Your ethics are really sound and very much aligned to ours on spending locally and giving something back - unfortunately, there are too many people who take and don’t give which is spoiling it for the rest of us, there has got to be a way of making it work for those who give back and stopping it for those who take, litter and create the issues. Hope you guys are good, all the very best, David & Rachel 👍
Just, 2 mins away from my house, is that park up. A few, not many Scarborians, have made a fuss about the campervans parking up, on Royal Albert Drive but most not have any issues with them.. After all Scarborough is a town with a great tourism background. You see, Scarborough Borough Council doesn't exist anymore and we are now governed by North Yorkshire Council, who don't seem to have an understanding of the coastal town. It looks like NYC is moving forward with this trial, to win over a few older people.

I think society generally has become less patient, flexible or understanding. There is a lot of murmuring frustration…van lifers are good targets for “not in my back yard” style attitudes. You are absolutely right when it comes to supporting the local economy in winter. Just parking full stop causes wars amongst neighbours. Hang in there. 👍🏻🌈👍🏻
Yeah, we get it a lot in my village. A couple of times someone has parked a shabby transit in a layby and the rumour mill starts up about whether someone is living in the van and then "is it legal" etc, etc... Whatever happened to Live And Let Live... 😢
Folkestone and Hythe Council on the South Coast seem very welcoming to vans/motorhomes.There are at least a dozen vehicles that are permanently parked on the sea front, seemingly with no hassle from the Council.
Someone mentioned they stayed at somewhere like this recently that was £5.80 for overnight stay with bathroom facilities and elsan point...sounds great!
Like the camping aires in France? Because that would be too obvious for most councils. It could even go some way to solving the homeless problem and lack of affordable accommodation.
There are too many people trying to live off grid now and this doesn't fit well with governments and councils, so they will only try and make it more difficult for vanlifers. Sad but true. I understand the desire to be free from renting/owning a house/having a regular job, but if you pursue that off grid lifestyle, you have to accept that authorities don't like it and will want to try and make it more difficult for you. Yes, on the surface it's a small amount of unscrupulous vanlifers that spoil it for the rest, but underneath that is the desire to make van lifing so difficult that people will put people off trying to pursue that lifestyle altogether.
We do exactly the same. I only do clothes shopping when out in the van and I have. Couple of fave shops around the country. I tell any business I shop in what we are doing, trying to get across that we spend money and are good for the local economy.
To be honest, that’s why I’ve stopped using my large fan to camp, instead I’ve got a Caddy maxi kitted out for two.. totally maximising the space and it just looks like an ordinary vehicle where I can park in places no one else can…. I decided this campervan were so oversubscribed during Covid and I knew it was causing problems …. I’ve seen the effect all over the country where idiots leave all their trash and soil…… just on last summers trip alone six of my favourite little hidden spaces have been blocked off… and we’re talking about places out of the way where we were once allowed to legally park….its tragic, but I’m undeterred
I absolutely love Scarborough, I also have relatives there too. On most of the loacal social media sites, the majority are against the ban. Read the petition to revoke the ban only had 57 for keeping the ban in place.
We just bought an old Talbot motorhome. Not buying it to travel much as its too old and will constantly be developing faults, but instead spending a couple of years in it just to save money to buy land in Spain. Have a property there, and plan on moving, but now want land. Only way you can save, i dont want to over half our income on renting here and paying bills. Isnt easy, but try and park near parks or on industrial estates away from parking near peoples houses. Also going to spend some time in and around Blackpool where motorhomes are welcomed and many council run car parks now allow overnight parking on them. Even the cheapest, most basic campsites are over £20 per night. England generally hates motorhomes; but with hardly any properties left to rent, not much of a choice where to live. Doesnt matter what you do, the system has you!
Parked up in one of my favourate spots in Somerset, another van pulled up for the night. They left before I woke up leaving a massive pile of rubbish behind. Other people don't see that van, they see my van next to a rubbish pile. What happened to 'Leave No Trace'
I live in a market town in Northumberland where the local businesses depend on visitors for their income. During the summer we get lots of visitors (not talkng about campers or vans) some in their own cars and a lot in coaches. It's then dufficult for locals to park, and the whinging begins. If you want the trade, you have to put up with visitors.
Good to see you both back. We stayed in our campervan in Scarborough last year and it was lovely. I hope they don't ban all vans in lovely places like that. Like you said, we're using local cafes & shops & we never leave a mess. I'll look forward seeing you next week guys.👋
Nice to see you back. I sensed a touch of melancholy in your body language, which is understandable. I hope you get back into your usual stride very soon. All the very best, guys 💚
I have been living full time in my motorhome for over 5 years now, I stay away from people's homes, and I leave nothing except tyre tracks and take nothing but photos.
You’d think it was the biggest problem in the uk. Same down the road happening at Cayton bay aswell. It’ll push vans to use streets to then return at 7am til 11pm the restrictions don’t really cure a problem but push it somewhere else
There has always been a problem with no overnight parking. It’s nothing new. 50 years ago when the new age travellers started moving out of squats in London and living in all sorts of vehicles parking all over Wales no overnight parking signs went up in every layby parking spot in Wales.
Yeah I think it's really sad,I live in Southport and there is a carpark on the Marine Lake that has upwards of 40 to 50 motorhomes every weekend,I think it's £5 a night and it's council carpark ,I've never heard any locals complain and don't really see any rubbish left behind and I think that is the key ,everybody just needs to think about being considerate.
It's more to do with big banks that do not want you to have an alternative to living in a house/flat. Almost all property has or will have a mortgage on it, which is really a mortgage on a persons life.
Thank you for sharing the current situation in Scarborough. I hope they revoke it. Glad you got to get away. The rental van looks great. Glad you are continuing with vanlife. I will look forward to seeing your new van.
Really enjoyed that! Just subscribed. I have VW T6 camper but yours looks ace!! Who's the music in the video BTW > really great choices? Thanks, Darren.
The UK is still a land-ownership based feudal system, it is logical, but not fair, that people with an alternative lifestyle be restricted to freely access land.
I love living in my van, 7 years now. But I'm on a field grounded. Is it still van life,... Because I use my car to get away and camp out and explore. And this is the crazy UK, the rest of us are penalised for a few idiots. That's why I found a field, I saw this coming ten year ago when I was planning living in my van.
As a council tax paying home owner who enjoys camping, I feel we need to take into consideration the following: Who pays for the beach cleaners - the bin men - the maintenance of public toilets and other facilities - etc etc? I don't think it comes out of a "van lifer's" road tax. The UK has a Gypsy - Tinker - Pikey - and Traveller problem. Caravans and Pitballs in children's parks tars everybody. This, along with junkies camping in city centre carparks, doesn't help the situation.
It feels to me that the uk councils and government don’t serve most of the people anymore? I signed an online petition for stopping North Yorkshire council banning one night campervan stopovers on Royal Albert Drive Scarborough, don’t know if it will help,I agree small local businesses need all the help they can get, glad you are going to continue van life, all best wishes to you😊
And louts in city centers. Throwing cans and kebabs everywhere. Police don't seem to do anything about it. Thats because this has nothing to do with rubbish. If it was this entire country wouldn't be the toilet it is.
this government and councils have a lot to answer for, they seem to be pulling the country and people down, I live in a house but my heart goes out to ya, lets hope things get better for the future , Shane uk
From Scarborough myself. The people complaining and forcing the council to implement the ban are sad people with no life who like to spoil things for everyone. There are plenty of spaces for everyone on the seafront live and let live ffs. This attitude seems to be sadly prevalent nowadays pushed by the media at every opportunity - general nastiness and "I'm alright f××× you".
I've seen it from both sides. I lived in Bradley Stoke, near Bristol in the 1990s early 2000s and we had "travellers" taking up residence on waste ground .. .they were unbelieveably rude and aggressive and when the police eventually moved them on the mess, the rubbish and the human and animal waste was appalling. Needless to say, it wasn't long before all the communities in the South West were (to put it mildly) hostile to any travellers. On the other hand, in Scotland, where I am now, we get a reasonable number of 'vanlifers' and most follow the 'rules' of arrive late, leave early, take nothing but memories and leave nothing but footprints and they cause no issue at all. I think it's channels like yours, showing people living an 'alternate' lifestyle but with respect that is doing a lot to improve public awareness and acceptance. I'm also impressed by the comments and the suggestions below for ways in which the Scarborough situation could be resolved to everyone's satisfaction. Here's hoping that the ruling is reversed in favour of something that addresses the issues the locals have while also being sensitive to the visitors' needs. As an aside, my van is currently under construction and I'm due to take delivery sometime before Christmas and although I don't expect I'll ever be a full-time vanlifer, I do worry what sort of reception I may be heading into.
Oh, lovely news! So glad the problems with your last van haven't prevented you getting another one: I was worried you'd lost all your money somehow. So pleased that you're getting back on track and still hoping you call your new van Daisy!!! Winter's coming: snuggle down :)
@Nomoney___Nohoney haha thank you! Yes the winter season has put some pressure on us to get something sorted quicker 👍 Back full steam next week, have a fab weekend 😀
The problem with trying to reason over or resolve a problem often arises when the presented problem isn't the actual problem, which actually isn't a problem at all.
Unfortunately, due to the numbers, van lifers are now seen the same as the travelling community and are being vilified in the same manner. There will always be a small number who will ruin it for the majority. Plus the government and councils don't like that they're not getting their cut
Travelling Community 'vilified' ... you have clearly never had them pitch up by where you live! ... trash everywhere, kids riding quads at all hours and terrorising anyone who challanges it, talk to local pub and shop owners after they have gone and see what they think? ... vilified my ar*e ... land pirates more like!
What about the people living in apartments and houses who litter? Will they also be evicted/banned? Why not instead fine the litterers regardless of their living situation.
Local authorities in the UK could learn a lot from continental Europe about the opportunities vans offer for the local economy. The UK overall lags a long way behind.
one problem ive seen in sky up in scotland is there is a view point where a girl has a small coffee shop ( van) she was saying you get 6 vans down here they sit all day turn there kettle on have a coffee spend nothing and take up all the spaces that cars would that actually get a coffee , plus locals find it hard to pass because roads are so narrow .
Councils are their own worst enemy....here in Wales they are hiking ordinary parking charges and chasing people away from stopping and using local facilities. Most just go to out-of-town shopping centres where the parking is free and you are lining the pockets of the corporates. Town centres are dying because local traders can't make enough money to exist.
I wasn't impressed with Scarborough 😬. We thought we would do the right thing and use a campsite. Horrendous! Booked 3 nights, but left after two and parked on sea front. If they do ban parking, they better get some decent campsites set up instead!
That's interesting to hear! And you are right that the best option would be to make the alternatives more desirable eg better park ups or campsites elsewhere
where I am in Kent some car parks are free from 8pm but now they have changed it and people have to pay. I have seen vanlifers in these car parks. Things are changing
Love your channel such amazing help for me, re the new parking restrictions, why not have a voucher system ,only be able to buy a voucher for say two days/nights then the monies are still going into the local economy? The even bigger question is - is it worth being anymore?
@@jamesrigby2271 stupid question

We live in a crappy country where we treat illegal immigrants better than our own homeless people. The UK is done for. It's a pathetic horrible place
I will not be stopping in any nice places in Yorkshire then. :(

Totally agree. We need to find a new way. Most people are good. It's the leaders that put us against each other.

It's a shame that campsites are so expensive...would make a difference to everyone if they were affordable for the masses
Same for me Heather. The powers that be just want 100% control of EVERYTHING. Stay safe - happy car camping.🏕

Itinerants and gypsies have been hounded for years . They are continuously being hounded by the police . Where do you live? The word needs to be spread that it is a place to congregate .

I was there, 1976 on
As a Scarborough local.

Thanks mate, back full steam next week
If your not bothering nobody and not throwing trash out etc, they need to leave ppl alone!
So happy to hear you are carrying on can’t wait to see the new van 😁👏👏
Really pleased you've back on track guys :-)
Thank you 😊
Big brother is watching you
I have been living full time in my motorhome for over 5 years now, I stay away from people's homes, and I leave nothing except tyre tracks and take nothing but photos.
Hi guys love the video good to see both of you I am so happy you have a new van you both have a lovely week 😊😊😊😊😊
@andrewkedian7244 thank you, hope you are well. Thanks for watching and back next week full steam 🙌
💟 "WELL DONE " keep your chins up, GREAT new beginnings are on the way
Yes! Thank you!
Delighted to see you back enjoy
Thanks for watching ❤ Have a fab weekend, and back next week full steam.ahead
Yeah I think it's really sad,I live in Southport and there is a carpark on the Marine Lake that has upwards of 40 to 50 motorhomes every weekend,I think it's £5 a night and it's council carpark ,I've never heard any locals complain and don't really see any rubbish left behind and I think that is the key ,everybody just needs to think about being considerate.
So happy you have found another van. Love watching your adventures. X
Thank you! 😊 see you next week hopefully
I always leave nothing but footprints and tyre tracks, I WILL PARK where I want and nobody will stop me, Scarborough.... See you next month
It's more to do with big banks that do not want you to have an alternative to living in a house/flat. Almost all property has or will have a mortgage on it, which is really a mortgage on a persons life.
As an Aussie I have no idea why you want to park upvon a residential street. Much rather be at an isolated spot enjoying peace and solitude
because the whole of the uk is like that, we do not have vast bush and snake land around us.
Thank you for sharing the current situation in Scarborough.
I hope they revoke it.
Glad you got to get away. The rental van looks great.
Glad you are continuing with vanlife.
I will look forward to seeing your new van.
Thanks so much 💗
Well, if nowt else, you are deffo resilient! Well done on bouncing back once again x
Can't let the b@stards get you down
Really enjoyed that!
Not in Scotland. We have the right to roam under the Land Reform Act (Scotland) 2003. www.legislation.gov.uk/asp/2003/2/contents
As a council tax paying home owner who enjoys camping, I feel we need to take into consideration the following:
Who pays for the beach cleaners - the bin men - the maintenance of public toilets and other facilities - etc etc? I don't think it comes out of a "van lifer's" road tax.
The UK has a Gypsy - Tinker - Pikey - and Traveller problem.
Caravans and Pitballs in children's parks tars everybody. This, along with junkies camping in city centre carparks, doesn't help the situation.
@@richardbrice6535 Unfortunately the itinerant traveller will not be challenged by any rule changes.
It feels to me that the uk councils and government don’t serve most of the people anymore? I signed an online petition for stopping North Yorkshire council banning one night campervan stopovers on Royal Albert Drive Scarborough, don’t know if it will help,I agree small local businesses need all the help they can get, glad you are going to continue van life, all best wishes to you😊
Brilliant to see you two up and on the road again.........love the van❤
Thank you! 😃 we are so excited for what's next
You’ve certainly had a rollercoaster ride but keep doing what you’re doing, we love following your journey ❤xx
Thank you 🙏
It infuriates me that it's just vans that get all the blame for leaving rubbish, I've seen plenty of people in cars leaving rubbish!!!
Yeah we spoke with people whilst there and most didn't mind us being there...especially cafe owners nearby
We had one park up over the road & they used the drain to crap in !
Come back to Ireland, if the travelling community can park up wherever they like, so can van lifers.
Think you should be left to enjoy your one and only life. best wishes
Great to see life’s ups and downs have not put the brakes on your hopes and dreams, can’t wait to see the new van and your crazy adventures x
Can't let the b@stards get you down 🙌
Oh, lovely news!
So good to see you both xx
Who are the local councils to start restricting how we live ? I mean seriously!!
It makes you wonder why they aren't cottoning onto it
one problem ive seen in sky up in scotland is there is a view point where a girl has a small coffee shop ( van) she was saying you get 6 vans down here they sit all day turn there kettle on have a coffee spend nothing and take up all the spaces that cars would that actually get a coffee , plus locals find it hard to pass because roads are so narrow .
Hi guys nice to see you back
I wasn't impressed with Scarborough 😬.
What was wrong with the campsite? asking for future reference lol.
where I am in Kent some car parks are free from 8pm but now they have changed it and people have to pay. I have seen vanlifers in these car parks. Things are changing
It really is time to get out of UK
If
Love your channel such amazing help for me, re the new parking restrictions, why not have a voucher system ,only be able to buy a voucher for say two days/nights then the monies are still going into the local economy? Anyhow this is a massive loss of monies into the local shops etc total madness!!!!.
