Inspired by Ray Key’s most popular box style, the beauty of the Capsule Box lies in it’s simplicity and the way it feels in the hand.
The piece shown in this Inspiration Series video was made from Walnut and finished with beeswax.
The purpose of our Inspiration Series is simply to showcase the beauty of woodturning and inspire creativity. No sales pitch or in-depth instruction, just sit back, watch and enjoy as a craftsman creates a beautiful turned piece.

That beeswax application was so satisfying.
Beautifully crafted! I'm surprised that you didn't take all of the tool marks out before polishing. I love learning from these videos... even more so when the creator talks about his craft step by step. Then I wouldn't be left wondering with so many unanswered questions.
Nice box. I am inspired to go try a couple now
A great professional work
Nicely done.
Wow! Gorgeous box, just waiting for my chuck and i will start to play.
Nice work.
That was beautiful i was going to ask the same question when i used beeswax i have never had a finish that good.
Thanks for sharing.
Pete
Wow!

How did you get the radial scratches out of the lid at around 7:20 mark they’re there but when you get to the finish they’re gone? I struggle to get those scratches out.
I use palm oil wax and it seems to just get glossy but doesn’t actually finish into a “wet” look. Just looks dry still . Do you just use the wax? Or do you use an oil also?
Was ist das für ein Wachs 😍
Wir haben Bienenwachs verwendet. Hier ist ein Link. www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/41/5170/Turners-Select-Beeswax
they are lovely was thinking of doing something similiar on my cnc
Great project and video. Will be checking out more and subscribing as well as the website.
In the last photo at the end showing the various capsules. What was the wood used for the one on the left and what was the grain orientation? Thanks for your time.
Ron
It's Fiddleback Ash and It's endgrain.
Craft Supplies USA Great. Thanks for the reply and information.
No problem :)
How use to polish
That was a MOST mezmorizing video! I favorited it...
My favorite wood too, walnut!
I truly wonder how (and WHY) so many people have to ask the same question?? Incredible....
"Was that beeswax"? ;>)
RicklesssS in Oregon
So many people ask the same question because the fucking video doesn't give any information.
I don't agree at all, CraftSuppply USA answered it several times. People just don't read before posting.
Make turning lite liontin capsul box ...
Man was hoping yall had some kind of kit to lock it until a certain date
what tool was used to hollow out so quickly?
We used a 3/8" Spindle Gouge. Here's a link. www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/130/3483/Artisan-Spindle-Gouge
my beeswax does NOT do that! gorgeous work! what kind of wax do you use and where did it come from?
We used our Beeswax Sheets for the Capsule Box. Here's a link. www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/16/6421/Pen-Makers-Choice-Beeswax-Sheet
Looks like the beeswax being used is the “foundation” beeswax that is used by beekeepers in their frames. A very high quality, pure wax imprinted like a bee comb.
Aggressive material removal but........why not? :-)
what kind of wax did you use in this video?
We used Beeswax. Here's a link. www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/41/5170/Turners-Select-Beeswax
Beautiful! Is that beeswax he is using for the finish?

What is the name of the tool at 7:56? I just started on the lathe and have been using a saw to cut my stuff when needed. That tool looks Hella quicker.
It's a Narrow Parting Tool. Here's a link to one :) www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/135/3132/Robert-Sorby-Narrow-Parting-Tool. Feel free to call us at 1-800-551-8876 if you have any questions. Thanks.
Craft Supplies USA thank you!
I just can’t figure out how to cut the hole in these. I’m ok with the other steps but hollowing out everything is a challenge.
Really helpful video, but had to turn the music way down after while.
excellent! what types of woods are these?
Gorgeous work. I'm either not using sharp enough tools or holding them wrong. No way do they behave like that for me.
+Joel L When I first got my lathe I got my first set of tools and assumed they were sharp from the store. The first spindle I turned, just to learn how to do it, looked like a dog had chewed it. Even after extensive sanding, you could still see flaws all over it. Then I did a terrible job sharpening the tools since I'd never done it before, and even with that terrible job it was like night and day: After just a little sanding it looked great. I thought I must be a great natural tool sharpener. Then I learned how to properly sharpen them, and with good sharp tools I've learned you can get a cut so smooth you almost don't need to sand it at all. I still sand before finishing, but I usually start with 600 instead of 120. The moral of this story: A good tool sharpening system, while expensive, is wort every penny - because lathe tools should be so sharp that looking at them from across the room is enough to make your arm fall off.

9:29 it’s honey?
You're close. It's beeswax. Here's a link if you ever want to try some. www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/16/6421/Pen-Makers-Choice-Beeswax-Sheet
Is that just pure beeswax that you apply for the finish?
Yep. Just apply it and buff it on with a towel. Here's a link www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/41/5170/Turners-Select-Beeswax
nice video, but pity you chose to have that music in the background instead of the guy telling us what he was doing, his tools, chucks, etc. THIS would have been more informative/ Instructive for the beginner than what this is now.
Thanks for the feedback - this video is part of our "Inspiration series" and is meant more as entertainment than instruction. We do have an entire instructional video on this project, which can be viewed here: th-cam.com/video/PTZemwWM2mE/w-d-xo.html
what things r used
You'll need some standard turning tools and a finish of your choice. Visit us online for the largest selection of woodturning supplies. www.woodturnerscatalog.com
ok thx
I'm confused. Music too loud in background to hear instructor. Was it the cap turned first or the base?
The cap was turned first
Robert Cornelius ky79
Great video but the looping music drove me bonkers.
Some text or explanation would go a long way. Ogh....cut the b/g music.
Music was unnecessary and disturbing. Product was excellent.
Glad you liked the video and sorry if the music wasn't the best choice
Please Dump That Music.
Ditch the music and talk to us.
