This is always one of my all time favs. And no matter how many times I watch it I can’t help notice the tool marks on outside of lid and bottom hahahahhaaaa. Not like I’m not expecting it. Lol
As usual. These folks offer training courses. I strongly recommend whichever that meets your skills. Everything is absolutely first class. The Powermatic Lathes, Tools, sharpening stations, and class projects.
Craft Supplies USA. My pleasure. I forgot to add that not only are the facilities first class, but so are the instructors. Scott and Kirk communicate their expertise very effectively. I learned more in one week with these gents than in years of self taught experimenting. It was a wonderful experience. Thanks again for such a great class.
Thanks for the videos. As a beginner it would be great if you could write in the corner as the video is playing which tool is being used and what finish is being applied. Otherwise I don't know how to follow along.
Très intéressant, mais dommage que l'on ne voit qu'une présentation et aucune information. Quel est le bois idéal pour y mettre du sel sans altérer le bois et donner un goût au sel?
I really like the video and the box but as an amateur chef, would not be my first choice for a salt container. The tall lid- how much salt fits up in there, and the little button knob when your hands are wet.
We used Scratch Free Wax to prevent tearout, then we used it again to polish the wood (as the final sanding grit) before applying a beeswax finish. Here's a link to Scratch Free if you're interested. www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/17/5652/Dr.-Kirks-Scratch-FREEE-Woodturners-Polishing-Wax
@@CraftSuppliesUSA I am relatively new to turning but isn't sanding paste/wax applied before using tools, dulls any tools that are used because it has either Tripoli or Deatomaceous earth?

I have been turning more boxes lately and learn a few tips from this video. It would be helpful if you showed the lathe speed at the beginning of the video and the speed when ever it is changed. I am always looking for more tips from experienced turners.
Lovely result with a lustrous finish.

I’m new to turning and I didn’t know paste wax can help reduce tear out. I’ve battling with that. Thanks for the tip and I’m gonna try this project.
Great job and thanks for the tear out info suggestion.
Great tutorial. Close-up views are the best.
Thank you
great job! beautifully done.
Why did we add wax on a few cuts? Adding wax will help support the fibers during a cut, reducing tear-out on difficult timber.
It would be better if you cut the join between the top and bottom the opposite way. That way stray salt would fall back into the box instead of out.
Beautiful...my daughter wants me to turn this for her.
My wife wants me to her one
thanks, very nice video!

You're so welcome Robert.

Great comment. We should add something to help follow along.

I’m currently making one of these. This is also my first box. Gonna get some new wood soon. Hopefully some walnut.
I'd call this either a salt cellar or a salt pig 😁...nice job, it looks great! 😁😊

Did you use figured maple for a jam chuck? Man, you guys and your free wood 😉
Yes we did. And it was re-purposed for a lidded bowl project. We didn't let that piece go to waste.

I enjoyed your video with the exception of the music. Why does everyone seem to think that they need to add music to their videos?
Hey Mickey,
Sorry the music wasn't to your liking, we have changed way we have the music in our videos. Thank you for the feedback!
What finish is that?
Beeswax. Here's a link. www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/41/5170/Turners-Select-Beeswax

На работу смотреть приятно и интересно,но долбанная музыка вынесла мозг основательно...
It's called a "cellar", you philistines.
Great video, but that music about put me to sleep.
I see your point, but I thought, Finally, music on a woodturning video that doesn't annoy me. I think I might be old.
I Can do this kind of work, with the problems our country is having right now I am losing my concentration for anything.
Annoying music too loud..not needed.
um.... that wako weirdo sound... i think u called it music... but honestly it sucks
