I bought an Amazon motor for my MS 180. 5 minutes after I started it, the piston bearing sprinkled its needle bearings into the sump, cracked it wide open, and sent the shrapnel up the transfers into the chamber and exhaust! Quite spectacular! It is now out and on its way back to Amazon! 😂
Part 2 make sure everything is clean and clear of any and all debris or you run the risk of scoring the motor . I use compressed air and brakleen . Don’t forget to apply a small amount of oil to the piston and rings right before installing
I think my rings are bad..I have to take out the plug, acetone it and wire brush it, then it will start. Black oil on it and in the muffler...Could it be just the rings? Runs ok, but after stopping, I have to go through the process again...
Everyone seems to have their own opinion on this topic. I say do what Stihl says in the manual. Personally I let it warm up and start with some light work for a couple tanks . Then it’s off to the races . This doesn’t mean I should or recommend that .

Ha ! Yeah I can’t say quality control is any good or that the parts and metal are any good either . Buttt I can say they are cheap ! Lol
I will say I have been chainsaw carving with mine since the video and it’s still holding up
Thanks
You help me out alot
Glad I could help
I decided to use an impact instead of the rope and socket method. Flywheel key sheared off. Thanks for the video.
I have a 461. I would assume the procedure is similar. So thank you for the info..
Very helpful mate , I’m going to tackle my chainsaw in a few days , on to part 2 💪🏻

Just for future reference, all Stihl screws are self tapping.
Nice project.
Thank you !
I watched the full video 👍
Thank you !
Great video, thanks for sharing.
Also do you have a link about draining the oil and petrol before disassembling
Just pop the filler cap and drain one at a time that way
Getting the handle off. Just lever the bar against the body. No need to put the screwdriver anywhere near the grommets.

How do you mix your fuel ? Should be 50:1 using 91 octane
I use oil that Sthil sells. One bottle to a gallon of gas.@@KylesChainsawRescue
I use "clear" gas and follow the Stihl direstions ..1 small bottle of Stihl Oil to 1 gallon of gas.@@KylesChainsawRescue
How about a short video on how to "break in" the 170. The manual says run three tanks of gas through it. I did that at an idle...took a Long time...
