I know how they feel , I just recently had a contractor who is my stepson, cutting trees on my property for the wood . I went to check out his work and just as I turned the corner he dropped a tree across the power line coming from the pole to the weather head . It shook the whole house almost tore the weather head away from the breaker box , instead of him turning it in on his contractors insurance my wife didn't want that but we had to turn it in on ours . I found out weeks later he had been on meth that was the reason she didn't want him to turn it in on his insurance !

Yeah. Keep staying safe and methodical. Safe tree work can be extremely tedious and often involves spending hours dropping small branches to avoid property damage. Most of these felling fail videos are of people dropping trees with no preliminary topping/weight reduction... and roping them off wayyyy too low to pull with some tiny truck.
4:45 is actually pretty clever, he's also getting the roots out too so you don't have to worry about getting a stump grinder. Pulley systems are definitely under utilized in my opinion!

I have been felling trees for only 4 years now and have learned to never cut off the HINGE wood and to leave enough of it. Most people make the mistake of not leaving enough HINGE wood and cut too much off when the tree does not fall over. Use of wedges is the better option.
How so? He was tied in, saw was not running. He went big there and went for a ride as a result, but technically, that's the process. No damage to person or property == successful cut.
It really can be a hard thing to think things through when there is a lack of experience on how to do so. Long enough lever and you can move the world concept: Rope to top of tree will be able to pull tree in direction you want it to go with only 1-3 people providing direct tension on it during cutting. Missing data: The enormous weight and inertia the multi ton tree trunk presents.

I try to DIY many things to save on money too such as pruning and downing a few small trees, but only based on calculated work efforts/risks. The enormous risks of trying to bring down a large tree is not one of those. I'd rather let the pro take all responsibility for whatever phucks up.

That looks pretty close to the lines. A bucket truck can't be within 10' of a high voltage line. Looks like they are trying to do it right but whoever is cutting should have managed the delimbing better. If you got to rope each one no matter how small they are so they don't land on the lines well then you got to rope them.

AFAIK, some power companies work with arborists on jobs very close to power lines. If it's bad enough, some power companies will even temporarily shut down a portion of line to make it safer for everyone involved. Any tree removal service worth their salt is gonna call the power company of their own volition in such a situation.

You'd be surprised what can be accomplished with a "thin" rope -1/2" diameter rated for 7,500lbs. Of course, it is important you know what your are doing. That rope does you no good when you don't.
Wonder if these guys falling the trees know that wedges have been invented, especially the husband and wife video. Like others have commented she did nothing wrong maybe could have timed a little better but either way that's on her husband for not using a wedge or two. I can't help but think some of these guys are either lazy or dumb because it is not that much work to throw a couple of wedges in your back pocket just to have on hand for safety measure or for some of us tree fallers it just common sense.
Rule #1 Always safety gear. Rule #2 If there are structures nearby, call a professional. Rule #3 If there are power lines nearby, don't even think about it. Rule #4 Don't let anyone video you while you're working.

There is one thing I have learned working around my house and that is you cut in the opposite way yoh want the tree to fall.
When will they learn it takes 2 ropes (one for each site) in order for the tree to fall in the middle of the 2 ropes.

Wonder if these guys falling the trees know that wedges have been invented, especially the husband and wife video. Like others have commented she did nothing wrong maybe could have timed a little better but either way that's on her husband for not using a wedge or two. I can't help but think some of these guys are either lazy or dumb because it is not that much work to throw a couple of wedges in your back pocket just to have on hand for safety measure or for some of us tree fallers it just common sense.

Rule #1 Always safety gear.
Rule #2 If there are structures nearby, call a professional.
Rule #3 If there are power lines nearby, don't even think about it.
Rule #4 Don't let anyone video you while you're working.
That kind of tall tree and near by house, the couple should had hired the profesional to cut it down instead.
