My Grandad served in the Royal Navy during WWII and often spoke about the rum rations on his ship, the HMS Jamaica... he'd mentioned sippers, tots, etc.. and how sometimes they would collect their rum rations and not drink them straight away. Loved those stories. He passed away years ago, but I'll be picking up a bottle of Pussers rum and toasting to him. Cheers in heaven, Grandad!
This Rum is wonderfull i am still the proud owner of a origional cask of Pussers rum still with the cane basket and sealing wax that it was shipped in i got this from the depths of Gibralter after the Tot had been stopped i think i got it on the way back from the far east while on board HMS DIDO
Congratulations, I couldn't have lasted 10 years without hosting a party. There's nothing like a tot of pussers to make a fusillade of grapeshot seem like a break from the monotony.
Yes I agree people need to see the video. I have still got my GALLON of navy rum that I got in 1977 from Lotti ( god bless her) via our Jossman on HMS Arrow for £8.50 then had to pay £22 in customs. I went back to Gib 3 years ago and tied to get some more . I did however get some Pussers 75% overproof rum The gallon is now worth around 1500euro. The gallon hasn't been opened still has the wax seal on with my name tag on "Fred " Perry
@@Retro-Future-Land the "sailors " used to have a tot a day of 1/2 a Gill about 70 centilitres ( I think )up to 31.07.70 At one point it was 1/2 a pint, but they had a rethink ,
I'm not exactly a salty old fogey who has had more than his fair share of rum, but in the past year or so I've been perusing the rum section of the local liquor stores. Screech was always my favorite, partly because I like the strong taste, partly because of my own Newfie pride. Eventually I stumbled upon Pusser's, the information on the bottle instantly got the attention of my love of history, so I bought it. It's been my favorite since, with Screech at second, and Sailor Jerry's at third.
People need to see this video! I got friends who drink hooped up rums with pictures of octopuses (kraken rum) pirates and all matter of seaworthy images to sell its fake crappy product. However, this rum (like a few others out there with its own history) has a deep and long history for nearly 3 centuries. Such a rum should and can not be put away or dismissed so easily. One should at least try it neat, and in its "grog" form of history. It aint fake, it aint storytelling, thousands of british sailors died at sea with this in their history,..Its the real deal of REAL historical sailing RUM! If one loves the sea or is part of a Navy of some other country, then one must at least try it.
General consensus on Kraken is you either really like it or really hate it, sort of like root beer in the soft drink world. Personally like it, as it's a flavorful little sipper, though I do admit Pusser's is my #1 rum so far.
See I'm drinking Woods navy atm and I think as far as dark rums go it's pretty good but if what this video says is true I am happy to support out armed forces by buying this stuff as well. More research is required though to make sure they aren't scamming us.
I didn’t realise it was diluted so much. 1/2 pint rum to 1 quart water is effectively 1 part rum to 4 parts water. So that gunpowder proof 54.5% rum is drunk at 10.9%, slightly less than wine. It must have been a real mess when they all drank it neat!
People really hate this brand all because of the Painkiller copywrite. I hear about it alot. Who knows how much of it is true but it has earned you a bad reputation.
All of this history , all of this rich tradition, giving to a bunch of Muslims! All because the new and modern British are afraid somebody might call you a racist.I
Nun a finer rum has been invited into the Wizarding world. It is the official rum of the Wizarding world. Warmest regards Albus Dumbledore -Headmaster of Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry !

Somehow a bottle of this stuff managed the hit the shelves in my small Arkansas town. Top tier stuff
It's really good. Gunpowder proof is off the charts.
The aesthetic of this clip is perfect.

The Queen! God bless her....
And the slaves !
Simply the best rum i ever tried and ive tried alot!
I drink coffee out of a Pussers Rum cup every day and stumbled here lol
One of the finest sipping rums on earth! It is affordable, and well worth so much more.
I love Pusser’s Navy Rum!

Wow, that is amazing. Is the Jossman like the ship's purser?
@@Retro-Future-Land
The Jossman is the the
master at arms ( officially ) like the ships policeman

New bottle just arrived. I can taste the history. Love it. Oh, and Play up Pompey!

kraken sucks
I think smith&cross has also a big story, but nothing compares to Pussers.
I also agree on the kraken.. Its just not my taste.

i came here to learn about the navy and rum. thxs
I went to tortola bvi when i was a kid. I remember the place where it was sold there. I was 12 and my dad let me try a pussers painkiller #4.
This stuff is the absolute best mixer for tropical cocktails.

The bottle is covered with text on how they donate partial proceeds to naval charities. And despite that, it's a quality rum, it really is.
This is a story of ships and the men who sailed in them ............ and getting pissed!
@Silverswordfish It is 6 rums. I went through the distillery and saw them all. They are 6 of the darkest local rums mixed with molasses and sugar.
the only...the best... Pussers rum.. still got a bottle of the red label which i purchased at the factory just before it burned down some years ago...
That's betta!
Splice the main brace!

I think they unofficially did dilute it themselves but yeah there was no official requirement to until Vernon stepped in.
good stuff
Never gotten hungover drinking Lord Nelson’s blood
In Mauritius we still call"Grog" a small glass of rum .
Huzzah!
Did that muppet say "running fast against the wind?" Has he been on the grog?
Probably, those old square riggers can hardly sail close-reached
What made the navy great
To my friends in the Asia Pacific region...here is something old but bloody tasty!
Half a Pint a day?!? Wow
I remember kippers unwashed rum glass, someone almost washed it
"...running fast against the wind.." I thought you ran before the wind & beat against it?
It's advertising I guess
a blend of six rums? I thought it was five?
It's amazing stuff, my local specialty liquor store carried it and randomly stopped...I'll bug them to restock.
