    I’ve ran hundreds of SD’s in my career. Definitely best sounding loco around. Nice video.

    It Saddens me that this will never be seen or heard again, The "hum" of those A.T.S.F SD-45"s off in the distance from where I grew up lulled me to sleep many times. Even at 57 years old I felt that same comfort again with this video.Thank you.

      It's indeed heartbreaking. Like you and many others, this is the sound of my childhood and losing such things isn't something most have to experience. I've made the effort in the past two decades to experience this dying breed on the DM&IR, B&LE, B&P, and recently the RBMN, but the ability to experience a brace of unmolested 645s out on the high iron is almost completely gone. It sucks. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and thanks for commenting.

      Some of those SD45-2 are alive, working in Brazil for the EFVM (Estrada Ferro Vitoria e Minas).

    Great videography. Now if we could only have this same video with F-7s.
    I can only wish I had sound when I took 8 mm movies. Just imagine RSD + 4/5 units crushing along south of Albuquerque on the way to Belen.

    Am glad you felt okay publishing older video. I got mine back in 2008 too I think--my pacing sequence of BNSF 6377 headed in the direction of Weston, Missouri.

    Thanks so much for getting and posting this. What a thrill it must have been to have been able to get so much. I was so thrilled when I got about 7 minutes a bunch of years ago. Congrats on getting this. Really enjoyed watching it.

    Good stuff! Especially that opening scene! My favorite Santa Fe paint scheme and some of my favorite SF engines, the SD45-2's. I wonder what the trains crews opinion of them was in 2008. And you even got some dynamic brake action near the end. I like those train cars too. About how many cars would make up a typical rock train?

    Unrebuilt SD45-2s! Awesome!

  • @brandedmcgowan9414
    @brandedmcgowan9414 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I believe these 45-2s are still retained the original 645e-v20 3600hp prime mover for the former ATSF. As a SP fan, i noticed the 45T-2s was re-equipped with the v16 3000hp engine because of the broken crankshaft chaos and unreliability proposes.

    • @trainiax
      @trainiax 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There was nothing unreliable about the 20-cylinder 645 used in the SD45-2 and SD45T-2. The crankshaft failures only affected early SD45 production and were caused by weld failures in the engine blocks. The SD45T-2's didn't get 16-cylinder engines until they were 25-30 years old.
