VERY BUSY DAY AT CABAZON. CREW MEMBERS WERE USING BINOCULARS TO SEE THE SIGNALS IN THE DISTANCE AND THEY THREW US BOTTLES OF CHILLED WATER! INCLUDES A SUGAR BEET TRAIN AT REDLANDS.
Ah, the Alhambra Sub! At least after the West Colton yard. Lived near this line for ten years; never a dull moment and always plenty of SP action. Nice grabs.
I enjoyed going back nearly three decades. I'm curious as to why the trains jump or hop + 2 why the crossing signals sound so handicapped as it seems you put a rag in them or something
Hi, thanks. The jumping may be due to tape carriage issues or perhaps the conversion process to digital. The crossing signals sound exactly as they were. A muted sound alright but I don't know why.
Hi yes I recall there is a cantilever signal there but definitely not a wigwag. I have not been there since 1996 but I do recall reading that even then there was only one wigwag left in the state.

Thank you. Seems a long time ago now. Always liked the SP.
This particular line was the Yuma Sub, same stretch of track to Colton though.
The last days of the most iconic railroad in U.S. History. Such a shame we lost this classic. I sure miss the SP.
The SP was probably my favourite US railroad.
Love those Nathan P-3 airhorns!!!!
Me too, much better than the UP horns.
The train I grew up with watching them in Berkeley, CA. I miss those Nathan P3 horns.

The mechanical bell has soft metal link that wear down and cover needs to be turned couple of inches plus lubricated
Is there a cantilever signal there? And is that tin plate sounding crossing signal a wigwag?

Before The Merger
I miss the much maligned "scarlet and grey"!
