  • Canadian Parents In The Philippines? Yes! They are my parents, and they are visiting me in my home! For our first adventure I took them to Ilocos Norte, where they had the chance to experience some Ilocano culture. And in this case...
    THEIR FIRST EVER FILIPINO FESTIVAL!
Welcome to the Guling-Guling Festival in Paoay, Ilocos Norte! Also known as the "smearing celebration".
This festival is a celebration just before Lenten season here in the Philippines. The whole town of Paoay comes together, sings, dances, and "smears" rice on their heads in the sign of a cross. It is a very Catholic Festival that has been going on for hundreds of years, and I was so happy to also have the opportunity to experience this for my first time!
Filipino Festivals are A LOT OF FUN, and full of good vibes! In fact, my parents were talking about parades back home, and comparing with what they were experiencing here!
What did my Canadian parents think of it!?
Well, just watch the video, and see how it went!
Ilocano, Filipino, Guling-Guling... FESTIVALS PA MORE!
    Power On!

Kyle l love ur dad's humor...but I tell u what ur Mom n friends their attention were focused on d dancing n singing of d participants. Love d HHWW n d brief dance w/Therine, Kyle that was romantic. And last "Dad do u like my gf?" Therine was stunned a bit embarrassed...lol n then Dad said yes w/emphasises...n u said yes w/c sounds victorious. Way to go Kyle...

If you come to the Philippines, you will know that Philippine culture is a mix of Spanish, American pop, Chinese, and malay culture. Where do u think that Philippines name came from? Haha.. Its from spanish influence.. So singing circle of life is not surprising at all than singing Joy to the world Christmas songs.. Dont u know we have tbe longest Christmas season in the world? And its part of the Philippine culture and tradition already.. So visit the Philippines first, then you'll understand our culture.. Now if telling me circle of life is an American culture, then why I see it so different fron tne real American ( culture) Indians songs? Did u get it? And besides, they where just singing that song for their modern guests....

My elementary teachers used to teach these songs and music to even though if we were in Mindanao! I also feel nostalgic thinking about Former President Marcos, he maybe a dictator according to history, but he bhuil the Butuan/ Cagayan De Oro- Iligan National Hiway! He comes from Ilocos and seeing all these in your video gives me joy at the same time some regrets why I didn’t dare visit this beautiful place of the Ilocanos! Mabuhay ka Kyle! @@bluesnowconeplays5362 It's probably because Ilocos Norte is where the Marcoses are from. Mainstream media don't like the Marcoses.
Thanks to social media. We get to see these things nowadays. 👍👍👍❤❤

that stairs in 17:45 is everywhere in Spain. Thank you Kulas for showing this episode of Filipino tradition which was influenced by Spaniards. People there really look like Spanish when they dress up, just like the Nanays. You and Therine are so cute and your parents are soo amazing. Power on!
