I’ve lived in Qatar as my husband worked there for several years, we both have two Master degrees each. Coming from a Western country, you can only live there as a highly qualified professional on a work visa (or dependent visa if your spouse works there and qualifies to bring family members along). A work visa is tied to the job and requires a lot of paperwork. It’s not like you can just choose to “move there” or “get sponsored” randomly. As a single you will “just” need a job (which you gotta secure first, good luck) to move there; if you have a family and are NOT on a package salary, school fees for children and living expenses for a family can easily surpass your salary and then the whole endeavour becomes totally infeasible. So, no you can’t just move there just because you want to.

The reason why people in Qatar are more conservative with their wealth is because Qatar has old money. Dubai is very new money people who are rich but not necessarily wealthy. You can always tell the difference when you see how someone presents themself.
That’s not really accurate. Both citizens of Qatar and and Dubai is what we would consider ‘old money’ in the west. Foreigners of both places are just that, from old or new money.

You summed up Qatar / Doha so well; culturally, not much has changed from my childhood memories, but it's definitely booming, and the architecture seems to have advanced tremendously. I remember thinking how boring it was as a kid, but I appreciated it as I got older, visiting family, compared to Dubai.
Having just returned from the middle east, you are spot on with Qatar. It’s not as glitzy, fast-paced, open and populated like Dubai, but it still offers something. I think it’s an easy move for anyone considering it, otherwise, try visiting to getting away from the buzz of Dubai! Great video
I first visited Dubai in August "the most unbearable and hottest month" by what people say. It was damn near empty and not as hot as people claimed especially considering their is AC everywhere you go I would highly recommend anyone to go in this month
@jordanhtiffirg1990 I also visited in July of 2023 and it was 45 degrees and unbearable. I never wanted to leave a country so fast. My throat was getting sore and I was starting to feel ill from the heat and AC. Best time to visit is late October to January. Best weather.
I acqired a Golden Visa and now have three rental properties in Doha. My ROI is around 45% yearly. Doha is 20xs better than the US and safer. I have been welcomed , feel free to be my authentic self and experienced no racism as a Black Expat. I've had numerous conversations with the local natives about the west and theyd rather many of them not be here lol. LOVE Doha AND their culture!
Tbh In a lot of countries I’ve been to there will be some locals who don’t want outsiders there, but the government has a longer term vision. These countries won’t be able to survive of oil reserves forever so they need to start diversifying, locals will just have to deal with it. What about the young British woman teacher who was abducted and taken out into the desert and burnt? The locals involved had a trial of sorts and a joke of a sentence - there was no justice for the poor young woman and her family. And also all the small children and kindergarten teachers that died in the Villagio fire because someone had bolted the fire escape closed from the outside. I was living there at that time - it was absolutely horrible, and again the local owners of the crèche had no accountability.

My husband wants to move to Dubai from the US after visiting and meeting several expats while doing our scouting trip. A couple people mentioned Qatar as an alternative as they were about to move there. We didn't get a chance to visit but will put in on our list for next time. The conservative fashion is really not of interest to me. I love to look and feel fabulous at all times and being conservative in my clothing doesn't allow me to feel free to be me, at all times. I do appreciate these videos about the UAE especially from a black person's perspective which for me is important. Love the knowledge on the economics. Although I haven't been in Dubai for long enough I think less flashy areas I would prefer. I loved Abu Dhabi vs Dubai, so I am keen to have more info re other UAE areas. Qatar, Saudi etc. I wish I was smart enough to be in finance. Numbers just is not me. Not for lack of trying.
I love a video like this it gives you a different view of the middle east. Whenever I talk with friends about places like Qatar, Dubai, Kuwait etc, they keep saying negatives things.
Because there is a negative, dark side to these countries. Tourist who come for 3-10 days won't usually experience any of this. I traveled and lived for 3.5 years and it was a great experience. If you are from USA or UK and other European countries you are treated very well, especially if you are sponsored by a large company. I was in the state Department. My brothers and sisters from African countries who come to work are often mistreated and undergo racist situations. FYI, It is not All paradise for everyone!

As an American, I lived in Doha from 2006 - 2012. I have been living in Dubai since leaving Qatar. I like both places but for my liking, I enjoy Dubai a little more.
I lived in Doha, Qatar for 1.5 years and it was extremely boring (unless all you care about is shopping). The business owners only care about themselves/making money and show little concern/respect for their clients & employees. And rent is extremely expensive, I lived in the Pearl and it's not nearly as "luxurious" as it's made out to be. It's all a facade!

As a foreigner you can get permanent residency if you buy property in specific areas like the pearl. No need for sponsorship. There’s been a lot of updates to visas laws too. Jusour programme that allows freelancers and entrepreneurs to get 5 year residency. Also would recommend going to Msheireb downtown, Almaha island and Katara in the evenings to see more of the locals lifestyle

Lived in qatar for my whole life, I personally think its so safe, so small, and very easy to go from point A to point B- Although you think the country is small and crowded its actually the opposite. Qatar is like a small city but once you’ve entered it, you’ll think its as big as America. The weather is perfect for summer, going on a shopping spree here is also very perfect, not to mention the culture and food. As an arab i want to stay in this country forever because ik this country by heart and its helps me live a simple life. And for all the christians who like to party, there are many clubs and hotels that serve alcohol. Moreover qatar is perfect for anyone….but if your a lonely person and bored with your life, find you some qataris that can be friends with you! Alot of them are so nice❤😅

I’ve lived in 5 different countries in the Middle East and my take away depending on what your goals are if you want to have fun while you’re young I’d recommend working 9 - 10 months out of the year leave around the summer time to go back to your homeland to relax. I did this for 10 years I would stack my bread and around June I would take 2 - 3 months off work. For those who are older and closer to retirement age there are certain jobs out here that pay over six figures and in some cases it’s tax free so it’s a really good way to build your retirement and investment portfolio up at a rapid pace. Per GDP Qatar is the richest in the middle east because they owns 20% of Heathrow, and are consistently the number one supplier of LNG and they are a lot smarter with how they manage their sovereign fund it’s more of a business country with less touristic aspects whereas Dubai focus is tourism and business so they have to be a lot more loose with their spending in order to get a return on their investments.
Doha was amazing I visited several years ago. Great for a weekly stay I loved the condolania theme park Villagio it was great for families. The boat ride in the mall was awesome. Respectfully I covered a bit and still had fun!!❤❤ my phone is filled with fabulous pics…great memories. Thanks for sharing your perspective.

I was stationed in Qatar and came back to live there. The Middle East, while it has its benefits, is not the place for everyone. You have to know why you moved there and what you’re looking to accomplish. It’s not the place to go if you want to act out, be disrespectful or think you’re above all. They will put you in your place. So have a reason to move there, to better yourself and contribute honestly.
As an American, I envy how other countries protect their citizens. Not allowing investors to take housing away from locals should be a standard everywhere.
Having lived there for three years as a single female, I can tell you what it's like. It can be very lonely given the conservative culture that they practice. Men and women are not encouraged to date. So, it's quite challenging to meet someone and freely interact with the person. Many have relationships, but they hide doing so. A safe place indeed, but it's best for married couples.
As an exppat who was was born and settled in Bahrain i would like to move to qatar for work . Qatar and Bahrain looks almost similar in many ways . Borh have same currency and cities looks almost same . I love to live in island . Qatar is like a cousin of Bahrain

As a Muslim moving from the West to East. Qatar is a utopian world for us. You want to live an open life, go for Dubai. You want a conservative life, Qatar is your destination. As simple as that.
Whilst I enjoyed your video! There is some misinformation in terms of tax. Most people in the UK pay 20% income tax, 21% in Scotland. 11% (6.1 million) currently pay higher rates, with that figure set to reach 14% (7.8 million) by 2027-28. Of that 14%, 3.1% of adults (1.7 million) will face marginal tax rates of either 45% or 60%. I am looking to visit Doha soon so I am excited to see what it’s like first hand.

My husband wants to move to Dubai from the US after visiting and meeting several expats while doing our scouting trip. A couple people mentioned Qatar as an alternative as they were about to move there. We didn't get a chance to visit but will put in on our list for next time. The conservative fashion is really not of interest to me. I love to look and feel fabulous at all times and being conservative in my clothing doesn't allow me to feel free to be me, at all times. Great info.

I do appreciate these videos about the UAE especially from a black person's perspective which for me is important. Love the knowledge on the economics. Although I haven't been in Dubai for long enough I think less flashy areas I would prefer. I loved Abu Dhabi vs Dubai, so I am keen to have more info re other UAE areas. Qatar, Saudi etc. I wish I was smart enough to be in finance. Numbers just is not me. Not for lack of trying.

I love a video like this it gives you a different view of the middle east. Whenever I talk with friends about places like Qatar, Dubai, Kuwait etc, they keep saying negatives things.
Because there is a negative, dark side to these countries. Tourist who come for 3-10 days won't usually experience any of this. I traveled and lived for 3.5 years and it was a great experience. If you are from USA or UK and other European countries you are treated very well, especially if you are sponsored by a large company. I was in the state Department. My brothers and sisters from African countries who come to work are often mistreated and undergo racist situations. FYI, It is not All paradise for everyone!

As an American, I lived in Doha from 2006 - 2012. I have been living in Dubai since leaving Qatar. I like both places but for my liking, I enjoy Dubai a little more.

I lived in Doha, Qatar for 1.5 years and it was extremely boring (unless all you care about is shopping). The business owners only care about themselves/making money and show little concern/respect for their clients & employees. And rent is extremely expensive, I lived in the Pearl and it's not nearly as "luxurious" as it's made out to be. It's all a facade!

As a foreigner you can get permanent residency if you buy property in specific areas like the pearl. No need for sponsorship. There’s been a lot of updates to visas laws too. Jusour programme that allows freelancers and entrepreneurs to get 5 year residency. Also would recommend going to Msheireb downtown, Almaha island and Katara in the evenings to see more of the locals lifestyle

Lived in qatar for my whole life, I personally think its so safe, so small, and very easy to go from point A to point B-
Although you think the country is small and crowded its actually the opposite. Qatar is like a small city but once you’ve entered it, you’ll think its as big as America. The weather is perfect for summer, going on a shopping spree here is also very perfect, not to mention the culture and food. As an arab i want to stay in this country forever because ik this country by heart and its helps me live a simple life. And for all the christians who like to party, there are many clubs and hotels that serve alcohol.
Moreover qatar is perfect for anyone….but if your a lonely person and bored with your life, find you some qataris that can be friends with you! Alot of them are so nice❤😅

I’ve lived in 5 different countries in the Middle East and my take away depending on what your goals are if you want to have fun while you’re young I’d recommend working 9 - 10 months out of the year leave around the summer time to go back to your homeland to relax. I did this for 10 years I would stack my bread and around June I would take 2 - 3 months off work.
For those who are older and closer to retirement age there are certain jobs out here that pay over six figures and in some cases it’s tax free so it’s a really good way to build your retirement and investment portfolio up at a rapid pace.
Per GDP Qatar is the richest in the middle east because they owns 20% of Heathrow, and are consistently the number one supplier of LNG and they are a lot smarter with how they manage their sovereign fund it’s more of a business country with less touristic aspects whereas Dubai focus is tourism and business so they have to be a lot more loose with their spending in order to get a return on their investments.
Would there be any good chance to do business in Qatar for an expat? Does the Qatari government afford easy access to business requirements?

Doha was amazing I visited several years ago. Great for a weekly stay I loved the condolania theme park Villagio it was great for families. The boat ride in the mall was awesome. Respectfully I covered a bit and still had fun!!❤❤ my phone is filled with fabulous pics…great memories. Thanks for sharing your perspective.

I was stationed in Qatar and came back to live there. The Middle East, while it has its benefits, is not the place for everyone. You have to know why you moved there and what you’re looking to accomplish. It’s not the place to go if you want to act out, be disrespectful or think you’re above all. They will put you in your place. So have a reason to move there, to better yourself and contribute honestly.
As an American, I envy how other countries protect their citizens. Not allowing investors to take housing away from locals should be a standard everywhere.

Having lived there for three years as a single female, I can tell you what it's like. It can be very lonely given the conservative culture that they practice. Men and women are not encouraged to date. So, it's quite challenging to meet someone and freely interact with the person. Many have relationships, but they hide doing so. A safe place indeed, but it's best for married couples.
I lived there - loved it. but yes depends on the kind of job, salary package and benefits you have in order to live "comfortably"

As an exppat who was was born and settled in Bahrain i would like to move to qatar for work . Qatar and Bahrain looks almost similar in many ways . Borh have same currency and cities looks almost same . I love to live in island . Qatar is like a cousin of Bahrain

I’m 99% sure it’s going to be Dubai as it’s the most popular destination for European expats but I don’t cross out other options if they turned out to be more attractive than Dubai. Yes you can have permanent residency based on Real Estate. If you buy $1,000,000 US property, you can have permanent residency and free healthcare as long as you own the property

As a Muslim moving from the West to East. Qatar is a utopian world for us. You want to live an open life, go for Dubai. You want a conservative life, Qatar is your destination. As simple as that.

Most people in the UK pay 20% income tax, 21% in Scotland. 11% (6.1 million) currently pay higher rates, with that figure set to reach 14% (7.8 million) by 2027-28. Of that 14%, 3.1% of adults (1.7 million) will face marginal tax rates of either 45% or 60%.
I am looking to visit Doha soon so I am excited to see what it’s like first hand.
