Best Tyre Upsize Method Explained! क्या है Tyre Upsize?
The most popular Plus Sizing methods are:
Plus Zero - utilizes the same wheel diameter as the OE tyre but combines it with a tyre which has a larger section width and a smaller aspect ratio than the OE tyre.
Plus One - utilizes a one-inch larger diameter wheel in comination with the tyre which has a one-step lower aspect ratio than the OE tyre.
Plus Two - utilizes a two-inch larger diameter wheel in combination with the tyre which has a two-step lower aspect ratio than the OE tyre.
Beware that the Plus Zero method some time may require a replacement wheel in order to maintain the proper rim width for a new tyre. Methods: Plus One and Plus Two always require a replacement wheel.
Diameter Is Key
Why is the diameter so important? It is because speedometers, traction control, torque and the gear settings of a car are based on how far the tyre travels in a full revolution. This is linked to the outside diameter.
If the size is too different this affects the time/length it takes for a full tyre revolution (the tyre rolling circumference), which will cause your speedometer to display incorrect readings and your gearing will be adversely affected.
So, when changing the size of wheel and tyre fitted to your car, it needs to be the same overall diameter as what the car was designed to work with.
Unfortunately it isn’t immediately easy to work out the outside diameter when changing tyre sizes as tyre sizes are measured using the inside diameter.
On a tyre, the outside diameter is determined by the sidewall and is more commonly referred to as the aspect height.
Keeping the Same Diameter
To keep the same overall diameter, you need to make adjustments. If, for example, you were to move up a rim size from 16” to 17”, you will need to choose a tyre with an inch less in the standing height of the tyre.

1. I have Tata Altroz xz (o)1.2 Petrol with oem tyre size of 195/55/R16 87H and as per the tyre calculator, 205/55/R16 goes well and shows +6mm clearance. Does that mean it increases my ground clearance from 165mm to 171 mm?
2. Will 205/55/R16 fit in the same oem alloy that i have with tyre size 195/55/R16?
What tyre size would u recommend. I m more focused on increasing the ground clearance if possible.

Sir , tiago xz+ comes with 175/60 R15 on company fitted 15inch 5.5 J alloys. Since 175/60 R15 is a low profile tire Will it be a good option to upgrade 185/60 R15 keeping the same 15inch 5.5 J company alloys ?

Keeping in confidence of the vehicle and its engine capacity, with the rims size available for your vehicle, the outmost size of tyre that will be better in all aspects will be 165/65R14. beyond this size will have negative impact on pickup and fuel average, and even they scrub the fenders while cornering. Please choose wisely.

(Odometer reading should not be a problem because it already shows 5% lower speed compared to GPS based speed measurements. So if anything it should become more accurate with the bigger tyres)
