  • Introducing the Sony Xperia 1 mark 5. Now as a tech TH-camr I’m constantly testing new devices and quite often I find myself between the iPhone, the Pixel and the Galaxy S23 ultra ... .but over the past two years my sim spends more time in the iPhone than anything else.

    The Xperia 1 V is definitely the better phone if you're a photographer. I used it yesterday to shoot some owls in low light and it never lost focus. The eye tracking is amazing and the burst mode comes in handy for action shots . It was a great backup to my pro DSLRwhen I didnt have time to switch lenses and I was able to publish my images immediately without the need to go home and process my RAW files. It's definitely a phone for those who know the basics of the exposure triangle as it still lags behind most other phones in basic full auto camera mode, but if you are willing to put in the effort, the shots you can achieve with the pro settings and manual mode are absolutely stunning and easily beat the iPhone 14 Pro Max and Samsung S23 Ultra . As a photographer the amount of control you have with each shot is vastly superior to any other smartphone currently available.

    That 21:9 aspect is what got me. I can never go back. I didn't want to go to experia because of that. I knew that I would be hooked. For web browsing, texting and running dual apps at the same time, it is just god damn heaven. Unless someone else make a 21:9 phone, Sony is the only phone for me.

    • @godspeedmaximus
      @godspeedmaximus 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What’s that aspect ratio like for gaming? Any downsides?

    • @F14Mavrick
      @F14Mavrick 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@godspeedmaximus Well I was say decent. The same issue you come across gaming on a PC on 21:9 aspect are the same issues you will come across on a mobile phone. The app needs to support it for the game to display correctly. If it doesn't, it will scale as best as it can.
      As far as smoothness and such, it is butter smooth, graphics are excellent and battery life is decent as well.
      To be 100% honest, if you are looking at the sony phone specifically for gaming, I would say there are better options out in the wild that make much better gaming phones as they have specific gaming features the sony doesn't have.
      I do a 40/60 split (gaming/productivity) on the sony phone and I am very happy with it.

    While some people complain about the high price, do remember for that price, they are getting an OLED external mirrorless camera display, high def music player, 21:9 display ratio, microSD card expandable storage, 3.5mm headphone jack, 4k 120 fps video camera (the Xperia 1 V has the highest bit-rate video among other flagship phone. Source: th-cam.com/video/l9vaxM2PfII/w-d-xo.html, jump to 08:38), which users can transfer it to the MicroSD card, and the capability of interweb browsing, all in single package, now that is worth the price.
    As for the side mounted fingerprint sensor, just use the middle finger. No, really.

    Can't wait for my 1 V to come in at the end of July. A huge thing that made me choose this phone is that it's upgraded in every way while retaining all hardware features of the 1 III.

    I have the iphone 13 pro and the Xperia 1 and find the side mounted finger print sensor far superior than face id. Mainly because I can unlock my phone before I even look at it.

    • @RennieAsh
      @RennieAsh ปีที่แล้ว

      They have pros and cons. What you gain from unlocking your phone without looking at it, you lose from having to tap the sensor multiple times or type in a pin when it decides it doesn't want to work due to moist or dirty finger.

      I hate the under display scanner so badly. I would like to see side mounted on more flagships. Why ? Because most people use screen protectors whose just make the finger recognition way worse. For people who wash their hands bot regularly it may be not a problem since 3D ultrasonic sensors love moist fingers but like me, who works in a car workshop, fingers are mostly dry due to the sheer amount of washing. The sensor just stops working so I mostly unlock via pattern or face unlock. Side mounted ones will not need any protection and can be unlocked waz faster. Oh and when replacing the screen you don't pay extra cash for the new sensor haha.
      Face ID via Lidar is actually very nice but I don't like how slow it is. I love it snappy like on android

    I have to be honest and say that the Sony overheating curse has put me off their devices in the past. The 8Gen2 toting 1 V does not know what the word overheat even means. All the reputable testers have proved this. It is the first Sony device that I could buy with confidence. It is not a cheap device and is more for skilled photographers or those wanting to get into photography a little deeper, but fair play to you Sony. You have at last produced a fine device worth the asking price. Respect.

    Iphone: Point and shoot
    Xperia: Point, calibrate, then shoot
    I've rented both of them for a month in order to decide my new phone for the next 4 5 years.
    When it comes to the camera:
    If you want to take quick snapshot or quick recording with the fastest result, go for the iphone. Suitable for quick social media pictures.
    If you want to get the best image, but have plenty of time to do some calibrating to the local lighting, then go for the Xperia. Because xperia's auto mode isn't "social media friendly".

    The s23 ultra is the best phone I've ever used and owned coming from the s10 plus and why i gave the a53 to my mother. The Samsung s23 ultra is better than the iPhone 14 pro max and Pixel no comparison, and I've used all 3. For those of us who know tech, we always knew Samsung was way more fun to use with more capabilities than the iPhone. I used to be an apple sheep many, many years ago, and then I transitioned and never went back. I remember apple phones being the most boring limited phones I've used. The only thing I use on my old iPhone 6s is the imessage period. Even using the 14 pro max irritates me because my s23 ultra does way more. Also, the camera is way better than the iPhone and more fun unlimited features. IPhone sometimes give the perception of better battery because it doesnt do anything basically. Now, with the pixel, I don't prefer the operating system, but I respect the pixel camera. Only gripe I have is the missing micro SD card. When it comes to those things like edge panel multi tasking, and 10 x perfect clarity, UHD 60 and hdr 10 video , all those unlimited features are close to perfect. The s23 ultra is the most value for the money, no comparison!
    However, the Sony Xperia 1 V will be the next phone I get and it has now earned my respect for design , micro sd card and headphone jack

    • @RennieAsh
      @RennieAsh ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's no such thing as "unlimited" features lol.
      I find it funny how people seem to tout up being "into tech" and "no longer an apple sheep"
      You can still be a "tech person" and use an iPhone , without being an "Apple sheep". Now that's un-limited!

    • @morm2173

      @NoName-bb2pu Samsung is better than Apple and Sony and all the rest. My Samsung tab s8 and the new s9 have gaming emulators and I was able to use my tab s8 and s23 ultra as controllers to project Mario Kart on my Samsung TV , Samsung Dex, smart view phone projection to screen for movies, Advanced edge panel and multi tasking like real computers, the ability to download anything from anywhere at any time, micro sd card, advanced s pen air commands, water resistant tablets etc . I still have my old iPhone 6s, and I learned many years ago that Samsung is superior to Apple, and it's no comparison with their flagship. They are the most fun devices I've ever used and they have features that when I use my sister's iPad I'm upset those features aren't there. Samsung has come a long way. I even have the s10 plus and it's no comparison to these new devices we can see how superior they are. SAMSUNG performance with the new snapdragon and battery is on another level . I get 8 - 15 hours a day on my s23 ultra with multi tasking. I love my s23 ultra more than the 14 pro max in terms of user experience, the only thing 14 pro might be better at is selfie , video sometimes , and imessage that's about it

    What I want you to do on a future camera comparison is investigate HDR on the manual modes. How it can be used and how good it is.
    Also, Juan Bagnell did a comparison with the Xiaomi 13Ultra and single frame RAWs are shockingly better on the Xperia. Was that an "accident"? Or is this new Sony sensor really that good?
    Edit: also, videos during the night changing the shutter speed? This seems like something no one remembers about, that you can change the shutter speed and have dramatically better videos at night.

Unmatched camera quality (also with Zeiss partnership), wonderful software with super nice manual controls, dedicated camera button, stereo audio recording with noise reduction, very nice oled displays. And reviewers would literally ignore their existence when doing camera comparisons.

    Yes, I've chosen the Xperia 1 series over the iPhone primarily due to its quality. However, I've encountered some issues with Sony's customer service. I would like to suggest improvements for the Xperia device. Please consider removing the audio jack and incorporating an App optimizer similar to the Huawei P20 Lite. This feature allows users to have full control over background apps, enabling us to turn off unnecessary processes, and enhancing user experience.

It works when its not to narrow. And you can set how it focus. So, its not like forever to set iso and shutterspeed as some people thinks. Make the changes compare with the reality and capture how it looks like. I love my 1iii and its more fun to do the setings. Since i have the older one il admit its a bummer when you want to change from 24 to 70. But you wont noticed it when its put together. 📷🎥🎬

      I have the P60 Pro as well and I prefer the images from the Sony. The latest Harmony OS is definitely much better , but there are still a few android apps that aren't available in their gallery. My girlfriend has the i14 Pro Max but prefers the camera on her Pixel 7 Pro as the images look more natural . I tried both , but so far nothing beats the Xperia. The audio on the Sony's is great as well as I've shot a few live concerts with no distortion and low background noise on previous models including the Xperia 5 and Pro I and had great results. Streaming through Tidal to a decent pair of headphones or using the heaphone socket to hook the phone up to your hifi will allow you to see how good the built in DAC is

    But almost everything you are talking about is about the Apple eco-system. Its a walled garden. So its not very compatible with most things and its advantages only matter if someone is ALL in on that eco-system and only uses Apple devices. But many of advantages you mention become irrelevant if someone is not all in the Apple ecosystem and does not only uses Apple devices (a LOT of people may use an iphone but no other Apple products). I dont use nor own a single Apple product. I use various products from various manufacturers. So nothing you mention is an advantage to me regarding the iPhone.
    And I would say that anyone that says the iphone has the "best" smartphone camera is either an Apple fanboy or uninformed. I dont think its possible to say any one phone has a best smartphone camera. Because it depends on preference. And colour science is very subjective. I find Apples photos to be over saturated and over sharpened. I much prefer natural looking colours. As well as the option to tweak pictures once they look like what my eye sees. I would greatly prefer the phone not do that for me. Or how about the Galaxy? It has far superior zoom than an iphone. And thats without even getting into the large sensors being used on Xiaomi and One Plus phones etc. It all depends on your needs and wants. We could argue the iphone camera is the one best geared for people that literally know NOTHING about photography and tech and thus need the phone to do EVERYTHING for them. But that does not make something "the best". Being the most "dumbed down" for the average person does equal "best". By that logic a Toyota Camry is better than a Ferrari then right?
    Big TH-camrs just claim the iphone camera is "the best" because they are basically paid to say so through access and free products. Many of the big TH-camrs really are not reviewers. Come on Troy.....lets be honest. Their main job is marketing. You have to come to the smaller more independent channels like yours where you actually deep dive these things and give honest reviews and comparisons. So a lot of what big TH-camrs say needs to be taken with a big ol grain of salt 🧂 (if not a dump truck 🚛 in some cases).
