Met a lot of Fijians in the British Army. Some of the best bunch of lads I've ever met! Visiting Fiji is the #1 spot on my bucket list. I already grew up fond of Fiji as a child since my father was in the Army too and he spoke so fondly of Fiji and Fijians telling lots of stories. I always support them in rugby, except when they're against Ireland hehe (which is my team because rugby is the one sport where Northern Ireland is linked with Ireland if anyone's confused)! My wife and I visit Fiji regularly but not recently for an obvious reason. We budget $100 Australian (about US $76, FJ $150) per day for expenses excluding accomodation. We have stayed at Tokatoka a few times and eaten at Best Fish and Chips (great value). Notice that Drew did not include travel cost -taxis are cheap there or, for an experience, buy a bus card at the airport and use local buses and meet the locals on the way.

When I was around 12 I became fascinated with islands. Just one of those stages of growing up. I knew about Hawaii and Tahiti but relatively little about other islands and when I looked at the globe carefully I thought wow there's more land out there and I zeroed in on the Fijis (they were a British crown colony back then before gaining independence in 1970) Still haven't got there yet but became close friends with someone from New Caledonia which is to the west of Fiji. I'd also like to visit some islands that were battle sites during World War II in honor of those who were there.
