      @@canismajoris6733 Yes, in Iran an Irish tourist was recently arrested and sentenced to 10 years in prison on spy charges because he was taking pictures of the country. This guy sugar-coated A LOT . Saying that a country is safe because nothing happened to him is just a plain fallacy. It can be indeed a beautiful country with nice locals but would you risk getting arrested out of nowhere and being thrown in jail without even a fair trial, just for the sake of "nature and hospitality"? A country may be safe on the a street level, but what do you even do when government itself is the bad guy?

I've always wished more people would come to Iran and discover this ancient gem that literally shaped the world starting 3000 years ago with the Achaemenids, then the Parthians, then the Sassanids, and since the Islamic golden age Persia was the biggest contributor to arts, poetry, architecture, design, science, mathematics and so much more... The portion of Afghanistan made me suddenly start crying involuntarily. Seeing those clips and hearing your words made me wish how much I had the opportunity to experience that country the way you did.
    I spent a couple years cumulatively in Afghanistan as a Marine and then as a contractor, but my experiences were vastly different. Despite being there in a different capacity, one of the things I remember most is how gorgeous that country is, and how varying the terrain is depending on where you are. Sunrises in the mountains and valleys in the Nangarhar & Kunar provinces will always stay with me.
    I would have loved to see where the Buddha’s stood, but the country was surrounded by history everywhere. I remember coming to land our helicopter at a small FOB south of Kabul and having a guy point to an old structure on top of a small hill and yelling “f*cking Alexander the Great, dude.” I remember taking a picture of the old fort from a distance and thinking how neat it would be to go walk through there and think about the history of that spot.
    The most kind and deserving people ever. One of my happiest memories is of when we gave a pack full of random books to a local villager in our area. The tears of joy and him wiping them away and asking us to take his picture with us and the books. He was learning English and hoped to come to the U.S. one day with his family. His only way of practicing English was with troops and old pages from magazines and other reading stuff he had collected over time. Giving him that bag of random books was like a pathway to his dream in that moment. It’s interesting now, looking back at all the people you met in what feels like an entirely separate life, and thinking where they’re all at now. How many got out, how many are hiding, how many are dead. All displaced. That said, those are some of the toughest people I’ve ever met so I have hope. Inshallah, right?
    Thank you for the memories, and I couldn’t be happier that I’ve stumbled across your page.

      As a Persian, no offense to you, I found it quite insulting to be said we're similar to Afghans! Vast majority of Iran's population is educated! There are more than 2000 universities all over Iran and some of the best schools of the world like Sharif university. Majority of Iranian either don't believe in Islam and dont identify themselves as Muslim specially among the young generation of Iran (exactly opposite in Afghanistan). Iran's cusine, literature and cultre is incomparable with Afghans and you mentioned it's similar! They're not!
      Iran government is to blame for all these.

    Just a clarification, the archaeological site of Teotihuacan is not part of the Mayan culture and not even of the Aztec one. It is older; it thrived until 750 CE, and the people that built it was, no surprise, the Teotihuacans. Later, the Aztecs named it Teotihuacan, meaning the birthplace of the gods.

Herat was like stepping back 1000 years, all mud brick buildings, even my hotel, almost no cars, just horse carts and electricity only about four hours per day. I remember falling asleep to the sound of horses pulling their carts. The people were fantastic. They were the most proud, independent people I've ever met and no foreign power can ever invade them successfully. The Russians and Americans were fools to try. I hope this country regains it's freedom soon. I rank it as the most interesting country I've been to, I been to over 110. Can't wait to go back. The best statement in your video is "The people are different, and the govt is different." Nothing could be more true. I am Indian and our country is having frequent arguments with Pakistan. But wherever I go and I see Pakistani people, they love Indians and they don't view us as enemies. Bottom-line is never ever should politics come in the way we see different people and their countries

      Filipinos are so used to disasters that even when the greatest flood in the Philippines happened (see Typhoon Ondoy), the people were still laughing and merrily singing happy birthday to a birthday celebrant even though the first floor of their house was already submerged.

The railroad connection has been completed so trade will increase between the two countries but also the old silk road from China via AFG Iran Turkey to Europe is being worked on, inshaAllah. Can you imagine traveling to China train via AFG and vice versa? So, let's be optimistic :)

      I think it's sad how most tourists think Brazil is only Rio and SP, when there are so many beautiful places that not even brazilians go to! Lençois Maranhenses, Bonito, Fernando de Noronha, Gramado... I've also been to a cruise in the amazon river that leaves from Manaus and it's amazing, you get to swim with pink dolphins and the food is wonderful of course. You also get to know native indigenous people and see a lot of nature.

    • @pedrox96
      @pedrox96 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marianat1393 Wow I think you know Brazil better than I do. Just imagine being in the Amazon rain forest, swiming with "botos" and contacting indigenous population. The food up there is also pretty special. They make fish dishes like no one else. I envy you! You're totally right. Actually, I wouldn't recommend São Paulo to anyone (despite being a cultural hotspot, with great cuisine and entertainment options). There are some places in my bucket list that I hope to visit soon: Chapada Diamantina, Pantanal, Chapada dos Veadeiros, Serra da Capivara, Lençóis Maranhenses and the Northern region. If you are planning a visit to Brazil, then I recommend exploring the beautiful state of Minas Gerais. I went there recently (Diamantina, Belo Horizonte, Serra do Cipó, Santuário do Caraça) and it was one of the best trips of my life.

      @@sleepnomore6065 There is such a strong negativity bias portrayed in the media, especially regarding failed states such as Venezuela. All we seem to hear about from outside the country is how awful it is. What the media does not care to show is the rich culture, lovely people, and beautiful landscapes of Venezuela. A government, no matter how bad it may be does not define the people. In fact, the terrible government has united the people in solidarity against it which I have seen strongly in my own personal circles. We can’t ignore the issues that take place but we shouldn’t dwell on them either.
      I can’t describe why Venezuela is such a special place. It’s something that must be experienced. I’m not asking you or anyone to visit Venezuela, but I encourage you to look beyond what the media portrays and see a the richness behind my country.

    Hi Drew! i love your videos--especially your respect for and objectivity about different people and cultures. Your visiting every country is something I'd love to do. You are an inspiration.
